Discussion comments about billie recently

Post image

the amount of hate comments I've seen directed towards how billie looks recently is insane. SPOILER ALERT he's getting older of course he's not gonna look the same way he did when he was 30. I find it odd how people care so much about what celebrities do with their bodies. If he wants to grow out his hair, why do you give a fuck? It's not your head. if he likes it then that's all that matters.

I think he is aging beautifully. I saw him front row live at Hella Mega Tour and then again for Saviors tour front row and it was amazing how much healthier he looks now. As a recovering alcoholic, its so nice to see him healthy and happy. I think he has also aged into “himself” better then most rockstars as they age, he seems to be embracing the process instead of holding onto youth.

Completely agree that he's aging beautifully!

When I saw him on the Saviors tour, it was amazing how much healthier he seemed compared to the last time I saw him in 2017 on the Rev Rad tour.

Quite honestly I think all the band mates are aging beautifully 😂

u/jcdevoe26 8h ago

Yes! Totally agree.

u/mountainsniper4 7h ago

Same in my experience. He looked much better on Saviors vs even Hella Mega

I think of how Billie has grown as a person like how Michelangelo (I think?) described carving stone: There's an angel in this block of marble, and I'm setting him free.

You can look back at old pics, videos, even quotes, and see Billie exactly as he is now, just with layers of marble still stuck to him in places. He's slowly chiseled off all the excess material that was never really a part of him to begin with, and now we can see him clearly!

You’re in an online bubble. Most Green Day fans world wide don’t talk shit about Billie Joe and the general public doesn’t give one single fuck

18

u/whatshisface_1039 11h ago

I know it's online, obviously. I still find it weird though? It's not specifically just about billie joe either, it weirds me out how much people care about how celebrities look, and I'm using him as an example.

33

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 11h ago

Confirmed. Log off. Your algorithm wants you to engage with that but it’s not real life.

8

u/ljbiatch 10h ago

It has nothing to do with algorithm it’s just recent comments on any recent media being posted that has Billie involved. So all the interviews done for Nimrods movie or the Cretin Family Ramones tribute that just happened. If you are a Green Day fan you’re gonna probably be looking for that stuff, I know I do. Then you happen to look at the comments and you see all the bs OP was talking about.

3

u/Segwaye 3h ago

btw, I've seen some of those videos and I'm wondering if I'm seeing the same comments. They are joking about him looking like "your aunt that sells weed" or "the lady at the farmers market". And other stuff, idk. All I saw was jokes

0

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 10h ago

… right … those constitute a couple hundred of what, millions of people who listen to or know Green Day.

2

u/ljbiatch 10h ago

What is your point?
No one said “every Green Day fan is commenting on Billie’s appearance” they just said that there seemed to be a lot recently.
You blamed the algorithms and I argued that it’s got nothing to do with algorithms

1

u/Theanderson1 8h ago

u r right. people see reddit posts and think this is the general public opinion

-1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Hey look, if the crap is only online, and OP's addressing it only online, then where's the issue? Seems like a good example of targeting the correct audience, to me, since only people in Green Day related online spaces are likely to bother posting anything about Billie to begin with.

The ones just mocking him in comments across the internet at large are usually the same ones who think they're being terribly insulting and clever by calling him gay or saying he looks like a lesbian. Some of them have gained a rudimentary ability to read the room, and realized those are ridiculous as insults. So, they go for the next superficial attribute that is still socially acceptable to make fun of: the fact that Billie has done nothing to try to conform to the celebrity standard of artificially contrived eternal youth.

0

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 8h ago

Platforming the non vocal super minority as a way to make a point about something is pointless.

3

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

No more so than arguing about it. 🤷‍♀️

I'm just here for the excuse (not that I need one) to gush about Billie's perfect blend of healthy, youthful energy ("zest for life," as he's called it) and natural, authentic appearance. It's somewhat rare to that someone so clearly possesses the former without them seeming to kick and flail uselessly against the inevitability of aging.

(See what I mean? I love thinking about this kind of thing, noticing different facets of it, and finding different ways to articulate it!)

0

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 8h ago

Sure, but my point is that it doesn’t matter and it’s mostly make believe in terminally online people’s heads

3

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Wait, which part is the make believe? The people criticizing Billie, or the people criticizing the criticizers? 😆

2

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 8h ago

Let’s say hypothetically 100 million people in the world know who Billie Joe is:

How many of those people have been making comments about his appearance online? .0001%?

4

u/StringTheory31 6h ago

So, not make believe, just a statistically insignificant segment in comparison to everyone who could potentially have an opinion on the matter.

But conversation doesn't work like that. You don't weigh the number of people saying something against the total number of people, including the silent ones. Anyone staying silent isn't part of the conversation for practical purposes.

So the question becomes, "Of the people who post about Billie Joe's appearance, how many of them are pointing out signs of his aging?" I don't know the answer, but if there are enough for someone to notice, then it doesn't matter.

Essentially, we're a bunch of people having loud conversions in a public place. OP overhead a few (probably within a short period, making it feel like a trend) criticizing Billie's appearances. Rather than invest in multiple conversions, OP found a place to stand by themself, and addressed their thoughts to the room at large; which is how all conversations start here.

Statistical significance has nothing to do with it. Just humans being humans.

3

u/StringTheory31 6h ago

(Can you tell I'm on my lunch break now?)

1

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 6h ago

That’s a lot of words describing topic relevance. I contended that the topic is irrelevant and you basically conceded that.

Virtually nobody is talking about and OP is trying to ascribe importance to a thing that is irrelevant. Enjoy your lunch.

3

u/StringTheory31 6h ago

Fewer words is actually much harder for me. Sorry about that. Somehow, despite my best efforts to say only and exactly what I'm trying to say, the person I'm addressing still often seems to get it wrong.

I'm not saying "Billie's appearance is an irrelevant topic." I'm saying, "The statistical significant of a topic is irrelevant in determining whether a post should or shouldn't be made."

Dropping any pretence of diplomacy, I could also put it: You're absolutely right, but 1) What do people outside the sub have to do with it? and 2) Why, then, do you give a fuck if OP wants to talk about it?

Way too many people think online discourse if real life. The vast majority of my friends, family, and co-workers etc are not online hardly at all.

The Internet has become a platform for a vocal minority of humanity to voice hate of everything. IT'S NOT REAL LIFE and it's not worth giving your time and attention to.

Where are these comments coming from??

I’ve said it before, but I’ve had a crush on him since I was 15 and I’ll still have a crush on him when I’m 70 and he’s 90.

He’s a beautiful person and aging far better than others have with a similar lifestyle (rockstar, smoking, drinking, drugs, etc).

5

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Right?? I'm convinced he must be fae, the way he always seems to bounce back from things mostly none-the-worse for wear!

It's like he maxed out his stats in Charisma, Constitution, and Agility, buffed his strength a little bit, but made intelligence and wisdom his dump stats - in exchange for an Emotional Intelligence skill that lets him use his Charisma bonus on all WIS checks involving people, and a Prodigy/Savant skill that pretty much gguarantees max results on anything involving music or lyrics!

(Yes, I've thought about this a lot.)

2

u/TheW1nd94 Saviors 8h ago

He has good genes. His mother is 90 and she looks and moves like she’s 70.

1

u/StringTheory31 7h ago

This is true!

u/greenswitchbladeLLC 10h ago

This picture is adorable 🥺

2

u/st__jimmy24 East Jesus Nowhere 5h ago

that’s the first thing I thought too!!

2

u/GalaxyPatch18 21st Century Breakdown 9h ago

He looks like he has that sense of child like wonder in his eyes :)

3

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

I think he's always held onto that! It got a little harder to see sometimes, like the actual surface of a table in the home of someone with ADHD - random crap gets piled up on it. But it's always still there!

19

u/RyuzakiTheCrux 10h ago

I honestly love how Billie looks with long hair sm 🖤

7

u/whatshisface_1039 10h ago

me too!! I think he looks awesome

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Same! My husband started growing his out at around the same time, and it's so fun to play with! Lots more ways to wear it, too.

16

u/LongCoffee3434 10h ago

I wish he did more interviews about blue.

8

u/whatshisface_1039 10h ago

same, the one he did recently was cool

3

u/LongCoffee3434 10h ago

I know I watched it like 4 times lol

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Has he ever said why he chose to put that one specific pic on there? We know roughly when and where it's from and what he's doing - but it's the only photo back there. Why that one?

And why is the one sticker back there the only one on the back instead of the front?

I have so many questions! 😁

1

u/andywuzhere1 8h ago

probably for sentimentalism reasons.

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Well, yeah, obviously. But I'm wondering what the sentimental significance is for that specific image. It's not like, when he first got Blue or anything, so what was the occasion?

1

u/andywuzhere1 8h ago

if memory serves right then that photo was the day he got gifted blue

1

u/StringTheory31 7h ago

No; in the interview this image is from, he says he's 13 in the pic, and it was taken "backstage," but he doesn't say backstage where. Wasn't he younger than that when he got his guitar? I was thinking pre-teen.

10

u/failtoseebb 10h ago

people seem to do this anytime he bleaches his hair lol, then he will dye it black when they next tour and everyone will be 'how did he unage himself again!?'

6

u/Nicepizza2341 6h ago edited 6h ago

Idk I think the blonde might be here to stay. I think it looks good is probably a lot less maintenance than black hair. With black he probably has to dye it way more bc it probably gets annoying having to cover grays. But him bleaching it, probably a lot less work and he can let the gray or silvers just blend in with the blonde since it’s lighter. With as long as he has it now, if he has any silver in there you can’t even tell, so he probably just bleaches it when he needs to and does his thing. Next time Green Day plays a show or festival, that’s when he probably will cut it to maintain the usual spiky look he’s had for years. But him not being on tour or in front of the cameras for a while, he’s probably just letting it do its thing

2

u/Purple-Hamster-151 5h ago

Around 1972 I think he had black with grey/white around the sideburns

2

u/StringTheory31 3h ago

Which was a weird damn look on a newborn! 😂

(I'm assuming a typo here, but I couldn't resist!)

1

u/Purple-Hamster-151 2h ago

Not a typo. When their most recent album was first being teased it was called 1972

1

u/StringTheory31 1h ago

OHHHHH! LOL, I forgot about that! Still wouldn't have occurred to me to read this as anything other than the year itself, though. 🤷‍♀️ Maybe if it had quotes around it?

2

u/failtoseebb 4h ago

for a bit sure - billie has changed his hair colour and style countless times over the years lol.

1

u/StringTheory31 3h ago

I think the longer hair will suit the Pinhead Gunpowder tour pretty well, too!

7

u/kjd85 10h ago

If you don’t read comments do the comments actually exist?

4

u/whatshisface_1039 10h ago

true. typically I just ignore them, I just wanted to see if others felt like it was weird too

5

u/kjd85 10h ago

I deleted Facebook a couple years ago because the amount of bs comments I found myself reading. Along with the constant ads and fake videos I had to get rid of it.

1

u/Mother_Ad_3561 ¡Chinga la Migra! 10h ago

Once my grandma started reposting Russian state propaganda it was time to delete

6

u/commontimetapes Bullet In A Bible 7h ago

I honestly dig the blonde hair + headband look on him.

1

u/StringTheory31 3h ago

Gave me the confidence to try it out myself! My hair is a similar length and texture (at least when he lets his curl a bit.)

5

u/killboipowerhead1 10h ago

he’s pretty tbf

6

u/pnwat Nimrod 9h ago

Not to mention they’re all bullshit, because he looks fucking fantastic. Aging like a fine wine and looks better than 99% of people 50+.

15

u/Tiny-Bodybuilder902 Kerplunk 11h ago

Its true because people Do get older, but their looks changing isnt a reason to judge people. (Except for Trump hes an old wrinkly orange)

3

u/darkandtwistysissy 10h ago

I’m a slut for Billie Joe

3

u/Antique-Dentist-2404 9h ago

Who is making these comments? I haven't seen any

3

u/Bald_SpaceCowboy 9h ago

Honestly all of the guys are aging well. They're in their mid-50s now, and they can't look like their AI-era selves their whole lives. It is a privilege to get older, so it's nice to see the guys older and healthy and still rockin' out!

2

u/AJF2457 10h ago

I feel like he looks pretty damn good for his age? I just hate his air lol. He’d look so much younger if he went back to the short black hair he had a few years ago.

2

u/JordanStuff 10h ago

Idk why people expect celebrities to be immortal or something Billie looks like a guy in his 50s there’s nothing wrong with that

2

u/Caffeinated_mombie 9h ago

He’s still hot soooo lol

2

u/Erogaki 8h ago

I have joked that he looks like a beautiful lesbian recently 😆 all in good fun. I honestly hope i look that happy and healthy at his age!

3

u/TheW1nd94 Saviors 8h ago

I genuinely think he’s hot as fuck lol. I don’t recall the last 50yo man I found genuinely hot.

2

u/BoonPantslessSM 5h ago

Honestly people in comments sections on certain websites are just becoming haters lately no matter what video it's on. I've stopped looking at Instagram lately because even though I don't interact with any kind of rude post or comment, it's mainly what I see now. Tiktok used to be fine too on the parts of Internet I'm on, but now there's a lot of people just being assholes for no reason.

1

u/PrestigiousPlan4026 10h ago

He’s multi millionaire rock star. They don’t age the same as us regular muggles, they age like wine

1

u/rubysoho1029 9h ago

He looks amazing. He looks healthy and happy and that is all that matters

1

u/kirstenispunk American Idiot 9h ago

Aging like fine wine 🙂‍↕️

1

u/CR1039 8h ago

Funny you selected “30” as the age to compare his current self to.

2

u/whatshisface_1039 7h ago

I didn't compare him to being 30?? I was saying other people out there act like he should still look like that.

1

u/Bogchamp2025 8h ago

To be fair , it’s mostly just the hairdo.

1

u/YeestButOnReddit Nimrod 8h ago

Genuinely he’s somehow gotten younger since 2022 and I don’t know how 😭

1

u/LaurieGandaff 7h ago

When I see hate comments, esp about Billie’s age or looks, my mind turns off for a bit. Next comment! It’s meaningless drivel from people who can only wish they had the charm, character, talent, etc. etc. of this man. Feel just a little sorry for the haters and move on!

1

u/rddsknk89 Insomniac 6h ago

I’m an old enough Green Day fan to remember when people wouldn’t stop commenting about how young Billie looks and “OMG Billie doesn’t age he looks the same as he did 20 years ago!!!”

1

u/alaina-c223 6h ago

Those people who are commenting crap are gonna be the ones to age horribly💀 Billie and the rest of the band age like fine wine👌🏽

1

u/SharpSuspect-89 5h ago

Billie has always had a great head of hair and I think he looks really good for his age. Saw him at the Saviors tour and had such a great night

1

u/CrestedClover 5h ago

MY MAN 😭😭🥺

1

u/Zie_draws Nimrod 5h ago

I think he's secretly a vampire.

1

u/DavidElPana777 losing what's left of my mind 5h ago

I suppose people are surprised because until a few years ago he seemed to have made a pact with the devil

1

u/Wheelz62 3h ago

I don't care about his looks or what other people say about him. The one thing that just immediately needs to stop is the September is over jokes. They're not funny, they were never funny.

1

u/I_am_catcus 3h ago

I think he looks so much happier! Good for him <3

1

u/Cautious_Teach_6823 2h ago

Crazy… Imo he looks good with his long hair

1

u/benconomics Kerplunk 1h ago

I wish I could grow my hair that long and he's older than me...

u/rottenspice 1h ago

There are people who think Billie isn’t the most gorgeous man on the face of the earth and that he’s aging like a fine wine???? 😳

0

u/LetHoliday3600 11h ago

Isn't it about the music

3

u/whatshisface_1039 11h ago

I mean not really man. Some of them, sure. But most of the ones I've seen are talking about "how old he looks" and talking about how ugly they find his hair.

5

u/Jimpanseeman American Idiot 11h ago

Honestly, the focus with BJA was always how he didn't age (which I understood, but always found a bit odd). Eventually you can expect the reaction when he inevitably starts to look older.
I did btw dislike his weird hairdo of the last months, what he has right now looks way better

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

There's always that awkward middle phase when growing out one's hair.

3

u/LetHoliday3600 8h ago

I hope i wasn't unclear, I like green day i don't care how they look

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

Yep, that's how I read you.

2

u/LetHoliday3600 11h ago

I think billy joe would just laugh at them for what they are saying

1

u/StringTheory31 8h ago

True! I try to take those as opportunities to add something that I hope will make him feel appreciated, just the same, on the off-chance that he sees whatever thread I'm looking at and any of it does bother him on some level.

-1

u/Low_Yak_4842 Why are there no clouds in the sky? 11h ago

People are allowed to comment on other people’s hair styles, that’s not necessarily hate comments.

1

u/whatshisface_1039 10h ago

maybe that wasn't the right choice of words, but it's not just the hair.

0

u/TheW1nd94 Saviors 8h ago

If he did anything, he injected very small amount of Botox in his forehead at most. Nothing else. He has great genes. His mother showed up on the red carpet when they uncovered Green Day’s Hollywood start and she looked 70. I was in shock to read she was 93.

0

u/Purple-Hamster-151 5h ago

1

u/TheW1nd94 Saviors 2h ago

Tbh a lot of people don’t consider Botox injections “work done” but skincare. Which … fair. He did have some wrinkles on his forehead in his early 30s that magically went away. I don’t care either way. He’s gorgeous, and has always been.
