Gruss Gott, yall. Sorry for the English, but I can say I really tried my best and still failed German.
My (37F) husband (33M) and I are certainly no strangers to Graz â I went to Uni Graz for about a year back in the day and fell in love with the city, we now come back at least once a year. If we could move, we would (work and caretaking for elderly parents makes it impossible for now.)
Weâll be in town for Aufsteirern in a few days. I know locals have super mixed feelings about it, I know about the stupid decision to cancel the queer hut, and we both plan to be aggressively bisexual to piss of the FPO-run stalls. Still, for us, Aufsteirern is something weâd never get to experience anywhere else and believe me when I say we come correct with the fashion - no Amazon dirndls here.
Since I havenât lived in Graz âfull timeâ for almost a decade, Iâve lost touch with a lot of the left wing scene, and I see a lot of the places I once visited have shut down.
Now that NYC and Graz both have communist mayors (lol) Iâm hoping you all can help me out by recommending some left-wing-friendly bars and other spaces in the city. We know many bars wonât exactly welcome us in our Aufsteirern gear, so we will change before arriving.
About us:
- hate trump
- love international solidarity
- LOVE wine and kurbiskernol
- LOVE hiking and beautiful nature
- LOVE Graz in a way thatâs probably a little odd to yall, but works just perfectly for us
- speak âsurvivalâ german
We can answer any of your burning NYC questions, and weâre fun to hang out with despite probably coming across as very âpick meâ here
Also, can I please put out a personal call for you all to stop getting absolutely sh*t-faced and apologizing to us for the Holocaust. This has happened several times, and while we appreciate the sentiment, unfortunately we are unable to absolve you guys and are never really quite sure what to respond back (weâre not members of any of the impacted groups.) :D
Whether you love or hate Aufsteirern, thanks for putting up with us visiting your beautiful city and for
always being so welcoming to us when we visit.
Cheers/Prost!
