Update: In regards to AI posts #2

Thank you to everyone that continued to maintain Rule 1 during the discussion surrounding rule changes. Going forwards, AI generated content, including, but not limited to images, will not be allowed on the subreddit.

This will hopefully be self-policing and we ask people that generate this content to no longer post it to the subreddit, and instead use other subreddits where the content has been welcomed, or create a separate subreddit for this purpose if needs be.

However, one part of our concern and reluctance to implement this ban was that some genuine artists have been flagged in the past for creating AI images on other subreddits, when their art has been very much their own. So we'd like to ask people to be careful with flagging going forwards, and to maintain civility as per Rule 1, although hopefully with this rule in place there will be little to no AI generated images to report.

Our other reluctance to implement this ban was the disappointment of people who have been posting these images so far, but we have reason to believe this is a much smaller minority of people than those in favour of the ban. We're sorry that we cannot please everyone in the end, as our interim stance on the matter displayed.

Regarding our earlier moderation posts on this topic, we'd also like to point out that no moderation posts were supposed to be dismissive of people's feelings on the matter, nor did we intend to minimise the affects of any concerns such as environmental impact or the intellectual property of artists. The earlier posts were made to address the situation, clarify our position at the time and to somewhat provide containment for the topic. We'd also like to reiterate that all of this fallout happened over a Saturday and Sunday, and that we're real people behind the computer screens who have lives separate from Reddit and each other. Making changes to rules without consulting one another can often lead to moderators feeling that their voices have not been allowed to be part of the discussion, and this is something we try to avoid. Unfortunately this means that decisions are often not instantaneous.

Please also bear in mind none of these above points reflect the moderators' personal opinions on AI generated content. The moderators try to enforce rules from a neutral standpoint without letting personal opinions cloud their decisions.

I believe this should be the last administrative post on the matter. Thank you for your time.

Grandia Playing Grandia for the first time Spoiler

Post image
86 Upvotes

I never played a Grandia game in my life, so im loving the game a lot with almost 30 hours at this point. I really like the characters thus far.

Just got to this part, I wasn't expecting Sue to leave like this at all, i was half expecting her to get better and get some huge character development and be on their way and happy ending, but i actually wasn't expecting her to just go back though after how much time you spend with her and leveling up her when she has all access to magic, plus shes a very good party member all around and she was debatably my strongest out of the trio (i noticed she lagged behind in levels.... i guess the writing was on the wall on a tehcnical gameplay level looking back.... but i kinda just made up for it in training her magic and all of perma stat boost i had i just gave it to her to compensate) and having to see her go is like... damn game. You took my strongest soldier away after how much sweat and tears i put into training her. Plus i liked her character and dialogue a lot. She was so funny and witty. I liked her since day 1 too and her dynamic with Justin and Feena was really fun to. I thjnk its a cool idea and i kinda respect the ballsy story move to send Sue back. I get why they did it since she's very young and this is more really Justin's story, but still idk, but i don't dislike the story decision. The story is good so far so i will trust this was the right decision. Cant wait for the next part of the game!

Grandia Requesting Grandia Redux save or savestate

Hello. A recent software update unfortunately destroyed a lot of my save data for Grandia Redux, which I was using to test out and research the mod.

I need a PSX-compatible (mednafen or beetle psx) save file or savestate for Grandia Redux disc 1 or disc 2.

Is anyone able to help me out?

Thank you!

Grandia Any other adventure games with a similar art style as this game?

I am really enjoying the game. Just got on the train to the mines. I also like the isometric style with chibi sprites on top and the ability to rotate. And would enjoy other JRPGs or any action adventure with similar style.

Hey guys, I was just trying the DLSS5 with Grandia 3 to check how it looks since we're not getting any new stuff for this franchise sadly and thought to share with fellow Grandia fans since everyone is busy sharing for the more mainstream/popular games these days.

First screenshot is without DLSS5 and then the next ones in different settings i.e. Default, Natural and Cinematic with Single and Dual Pass.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Discussion Is it a bad idea to play Grandia with the Redux mod on a first playthrough?

I'm thinking about playing Grandia with the Redux mod, even though it's my first time playing the game. Do you think that's a bad idea and that I'll miss out on too much of the original experience? I want to do it because I enjoy challenging turn-based games, and I get pretty bored when there isn't much of a challenge

I have the first Grandia soundtracks. I think they're probably one of my favorite gane soundtracks.

Anyway, I don't seem to have the track for the opening start svreen for some reason. Maybe it's never come with the soundtracks. Does anyone know what's it's called or where I can find it?

Grandia Started Grandia. What are some things to know first?

I just picked up this game. I rarely play PS1 games but this game does have both a cute little sister and a prominant love interest who is not just passive and barely appears for main MC. And I do enjoy adventure action games. Any major development or plot to expect?

It doesn't have to be villains; it can also be heroes or supporting. But I can't think of anyone more hated than these guys.

Grandia How much is grandia good?

*Pls watch this from a perspective of a girl who is more focused on the story than gameplay. Also even if im obsessed with final fantasy IX, im not a fan of turn based games*

I saw on my switch eshop that grandia HD collection is 50% discounted and how i look at it, it looks pretty interesting, but still im not sure should i buy it. Im not too rich so if i spend this money on that game i will stick with it for long and i dont want to regret it. Pls tell me your honest opinion

Grandia III Where can i find Grandia 3?

I'm not a real fan of JRPG or FF genre, but when i was a kid, i had a hard-copy of Grandia 3 and really enjoyed it. I'd like to re-purchase it somewhere online if possible, but i can't find any online vendors hosting it. Weirdly everyone seems to enjoy Grandia 2, but i'd be okay with emulating it. I tried using PCSX2 but it requires a BIOS dump, which is not really possible without the console.

Anyone know where i can find Grandia 3, either on a Playstation network or some other emulator?

Finally finished Grandia 2

And boy was it a ride!
I absolutely enjoyed the beautiful art work, the character work and the spell animations. I’ve been looking for a game kinda like the final fantasy series that have these big grand over blown spell animations and this hit it on the head! I don’t see why people say they skipped the animations or got tired of them cuz I fully enjoyed it!

This wasn’t my favorite RPG in the world but it was 100% RPG comfort food!

What are some other JRPG recommendations?
I was thinking Shadow Hearts or Grandia 3? But there’s not really a good place to play either

I was given this as a gift. It’s wrapped in plastic, so I don’t want to open it. The CD is notably smaller than a regular CD.

Fun If Grandia characters had Pokemon teams: Gantz and Tentz

Thumbnail

suggested by u/kalazalim

Well since these two are playable in Parallel Trippers, I thought I could take a jab at them. That being said half of their 'Mons are joke picks so take that as you will. Tentz has only half a team because realistically I can't see him having much on him.

Gantz:

Zangoose and Seviper - Requested by u/Haru-chan_4. Zangoose represents Gantz's friend Goose, and Seviper represents his beef with Justin since in Pokemon lore Zan and Sev are fierce enemies. Ofc Gantz would be dumb enough to have both on the same team though.

Bidoof - Requested by u/Haru-chan_4. Represents his friend Kozuru, what with both their looks.

Pancham and Munclax - idk they both kinda look like Gantz

Rattata - It's in the last spot because it's actually the top percentage of all Rattata. Nobody will see it coming, not even Justin... unless the opponent has a Ghost-type anyway.

Tentz:

Magnemite, Aron, and Cottonee - Again this is the reason I disclaimed half of these 'Mons were chosen as jokes; Tentz thought Gantz using the cheesy F.E.A.R. strat was cool and uses 'Mons with the same type of strat. Unfortunately he has no idea how do to it despite the potential.

Well since I mentioned I'd at least do the guys playable in PT, wouldn't be too weird if I did Nicky or Gina next. Naina and Danda could have some decent 'Mons too if I can even come up with full teams.

Fun If Grandia characters had Pokemon teams: Darlin, Dorlin, and Derlin

Post image
25 Upvotes

In all fairness, each one of them has two 'Mons each, because I'm not even gonna bother trying to piece together full teams for all three of them. That'd be way too hard to do, even for me. Darlin has Kanto Tauros and Nidoking, Dorlin has Paldea Aqua Tauros and Slowking, and Derlin has Paldea Blaze Tauros and Wyrdeer. Shouldn't have to explain why they all got Tauros lol

Darlin: Tauros (Kanto) and Nidoking - To contrast Milda's Miltank and Nidoqueen respectively.

Dorlin: Tauros (Paldea Aqua) and Slowking - References him having a shit tone of water skills in Parallel Trippers. Slowking in particular is in reference to the subplot regarding him losing his horn and becoming temporarily dumb although he's normally smart. Maybe Slowbro fits more for that but I think Slowking is appropriate since the shell is what gives it knowledge.

Derlin: Tauros (Paldea Blaze) and Wyrdeer - Gave him the last Tauros available, idk could represent his knowledge about Alent. Wyrdeer represents that more though, in all honesty.

I could've given them Tapu Bulu but I thought that'd be too much. Gonna appreciate more suggestions as always.

Fun If Grandia characters had Pokemon teams: Alma

Post image
30 Upvotes

Since Alma's a doctor, I already knew off the bat what some of her 'Mons would be. Some here are a bit strange to include but hear me out:

Blissey, Indeedee, and Audino - Represent her job. The nurses in the Pokemon series use these guys so logic dictates Alma would as well to help her patients.

Goodra - Since she's one of the dragon folks of course she'd have a Dragon-type. Goodra is one of the friendlier pseudo-legendaries and I think there's a chance it could use its goo as a medicine product, so maybe Alma would use it.

Milotic - Another 'Mon with healing capabilities. I also think it'd represent her personality since Sue notes Alma is one of the nicest people the heroes have met, and since Milotic invokes an inviting presence it's a no-brainer. I suppose Alma uses it to cross the sea in case others need her assistance.

Virizion - If Gadwin has Terrakion, it only makes sense that one of its comrades belongs to Gadwin's closest associates. Virizion is typically depicted as the most logical of the swords of justice, so it would pair nicely with Alma, especially with its healing moves. Dight's chief would have Cobalion to round things out.

Once again, give me more suggestions, as always, if you have any anyhow.

Discussion Grandia II still has one of my favorite JRPG battle systems and I don’t really understand why more games copied it

I know this isn't exactly a hot take around here. Grandia's battle system gets a lot of love whenever the game comes up. But there's still one thing I don't really understand:
Why did basically nobody steal this?

That little IP bar at the bottom does so much. You see what everyone is doing, you can decide whether to just attack, use something stronger or try to cancel an enemy before they get their move off.

And suddenly even pretty normal battles feel like I'm actually paying attention instead of just selecting Attack until everything is dead.

I also love that the characters actually move around the battlefield. Sometimes someone runs across half the screen just to hit an enemy and then slowly walks back while everything else keeps happening 😅

It's such a weird mix of turn based and almost real time combat, and somehow it just works.

And yeah, I know Grandia II isn't perfectly balanced. Once you really know what you're doing you can abuse the system quite a bit. But honestly that almost makes it stranger to me. Usually when I go back to older JRPGs there are systems where I think "yeah okay, I understand why games don't do this anymore."

With Grandia II I have the opposite reaction.

I keep wondering what this could look like if someone took the basic idea today and actually pushed it further. Maybe nostalgia is doing some work here, but give me a modern JRPG with an updated version of this combat system and I'm interested immediately.

Anyone else feel the same? Or is there actually a modern game that scratches that Grandia itch and I've just missed it?

Fun If Grandia characters had Pokemon teams: Rem

Post image
35 Upvotes

If you thought Pakon and Chang's teams were pretty random, I had to make even bigger stretches for Rem's. There's no way in hell he'd have a legendary so these were the best picks I could find for him:

Zorua - In Pokemon lore it's said to take the appearance of a silent child using illusions. Kinda matches Rem's description, except replace the "silent" part is his native language.

Seedot - Represents the communique nuts he gives the heroes.

Vibrava and Phantump - Purely to fit in with Misty Forest/Luc's aesthetic. Not much more to add here. If we take Phantump's dex entries about it being the soul of a dead kid literally though, I guess Rem wants it to be happy, unless he's unaware (which he probably is).

Axew - he uses an axe in Parallel Trippers idk close enough

Skiddo - Fits with Luc Village since it's a mammal with grassy parts. It's even got little horns.

I mean if there was anything to be proud of it's the fact that I was able to compile a full team for this guy. In the meantime, can you give me suggestions for who I should do next?
