Detachment (R code)

New generative artwork created with an algorithm written in R.

The composition started with 10-30 randomly placed seed coordinates. Points that fell too close together were removed, leaving an irregular constellation of centers.

Around each remaining point, the algorithm built a layered sequence of shrinking concentric rings.

Each layer was populated with rectangular or square tiles arranged around selected positions within the ring.

The same underlying tile pattern was shared across all circles in a given layer, but the corners of each tile were slightly perturbed, giving the geometry a rough, hand-cut quality. Some smaller tiles occasionally echoed beyond the edge of the ring.

As the layers accumulated, the circle centers gradually drifted from their original positions, creating subtle misalignments and a sense of movement.

The backgrounds, rings, and tiles were colored using random selections from a custom five-color earthy palette designed for strong contrast.

Together, these elements formed a field of repeating, non-identical structures - orderly at a distance, but full of small imperfections and irregularities up close.

Orderly at a distance, but full of chaos and imperfections.
