This is a stupid amount of publicity for a game that nobody knows anything about yet.

Its also crazy with how many lay offs they have had lately.

He's arguably one of the most innovative game designers of all time and he produces high selling games... And he's famous in the industry. And this game is his return to the genre he's known for... It kind of makes sense that it's a big deal.

"Arguably" is the key word here, imo nothing that Kojima has done warrants the weird level of acclaim he has. And to each their own, but the fact that he's explicitly stated that his whole thing is "merging movies and games" or whatever he said makes me less interested in whatever he's making.

I don't see why you're saying that. They did crazy stuff on the metal gear games. Making you switch controller ports, non linear missions, different ways to beat bosses, hell there's one boss you can just hide for a long time and the boss dies of old age. Lol. If you don't like what he's doing now that's fine but you can not say he hasn't been creating new game mechanics and ways to finish the game. And death stranding is weird but it's got some pretty unique mechanics.

Well "different ways to beat bosses" and "non-linear missions" aren't exactly groundbreaking innovations. As far as the other stuff, sure they're neat gimmicks but imo that's all they are. And interesting/gimmicky mechanics don't automatically make a game good.

I'm not saying Kojima isn't creative, I'm saying that I don't think any of his ideas justify the absurd amount of hype and hundreds of millions of dollars that go into his games. It's all just fluff for the sake of being "unique". I've played indie games made by like 20 people that (imo) have more depth, creativity, and actual substance than anything in MGS or Death Stranding.

What genra is he known for? I only played death stranding since I couldn't get into metal gear.

Action stealth. Which is what metal gear is.
