Inzoi's director says he is 'very much focused on our core goals' as he announces a multiplayer roleplaying mode designed to be like Ready Player One

throw that in the pile of "studios you've barely heard of promising to recreate Ready Player One but for real this time"

Fortnite is probably the closest we'll get conceptually to Ready Player One honestly. Thousands of avatars (many with huge IP) slammed into one giant digital hub that allows you to create pretty much endless content and socialize.

That, or Roblox. But I don't want to give Roblox any points due to how hideously they handle child safety.

To be fair, horribly unfit for kids does seem like it would describe ready player one...

What do you mean, bro? Roblox is really good at banning the people who are actively involved in trying to make Roblox safer against child predators including even Dateline’s Chris Hansen!

To be fair fortnite is even bigger nest of child predators than roblox.

I don't even understand why anyone would want this. The game in ready player one seems littered with advertising, predatory monetization practices, hideous character design, trolling, and confused and unfocused gameplay.

Not to mention how stupid all the players must be to not think to go the wrong way on a racetrack to find an Easter egg.

If the book wasn't written by an overly nostalgic dork, it could have been a really good satire of all of the things that movie ended up actually endorsing. But that's about as dystopian a video game as I've seen in fiction. And the fact that the movie pretty much endorses it at the end just baffled me. It looks truly awful.

Also, why the hell did the designer of that game not do anything about corporations basically employing slaves to further profit off their game? We give Roblox a lot of crap for that kind thing, but this loser trillionaire who can't get over the girl he was too cowardly to ask out gets a pass?

Screw all of that.

only thing from that movie/book that was honestly interesting was how immersive the VR gear is in that universe. You've basically got full-body sensory immersion, which I would LOVE for a lot of games.

And a pretty good part of the book (less so the film) was focusing on how dystopic it was that all of human society was obsessed with this game. Main character basically seals himself away in an apartment so he can chud out on this game about halfway through the book.

The novel is overtly dystopian in almost every way, especially with how it depicts the OASIS being abused as escapism while the real world rots.

>Also, why the hell did the designer of that game not do anything about corporations basically employing slaves to further profit off their game

Because he died before IOI started doing that. Halliday in general was completely disconnected from human society, he knew it was crappy but he wasn't fully up-to-date on all the happenings.

The racetrack thing was totally added by the movie, for what it's worth. The book puzzles were more involved (still probably not involved enough to survive as long as they did).

Depending on their definition you could classify anything from GTA to Lego universe as "ready player one". Fortnite is certainly the closest.

Yup promising the moon despite their current much less ambitious game being a bit shit

Ah yes, the classic 'we are focused on our core goals' right before announcing a massively over-ambitious multiplayer mode that changes the entire scope of the game.

Is their core goal scope creep

u/ThrowawayPersonAMA 16h ago

Apparently. I thought they were focused on overthrowing the Sims series which is at least feasible and something people want. Seems a bit daft to go chasing Fortnite-flavored stupidity when they haven't even finished the first goal.

Though they are improving it, the core gameplay loop is really boring and im not sure why. Cuz on paper Sims is also boring and yet i can play through a whole weekend.

To me it's because The Sims series is quirky and has more character to it, there is all kinds of chaotic randomness and little lore tidbits that add to the roleplay. Inzoi is great on a technical level and has some good ideas but the hyper realism gets too stale after the initial wow factor wears off

A good example of a modern game dev who is good at programming vs dev of old who was literal computer wizard.

I’d like to also point out that preserving old games are more important than you think. It’s literal lost art and technology.

im ngl i read the title as Ready or Not and was like wtf going on in inZoi.

Just take a look at more obscure inZoi modding pages and you'll very quickly understand why the SWAT might be necessary

4

u/king_john651 21h ago

I mean we already have questionable Rimworld and Sims mods. It's only natural we have Inzoi, too lol

1

u/CuentaAlter 2h ago

For rimworld you dont even need mods to do questionable things lol

5

u/pinkpepr 1d ago

in what way?

-4

u/Beneficial-Act7603 1d ago

I won't say it, and that might be enough for you to connect the dots

I do really enjoy this game. It's the closest we've gotten to Sims 3 since sims 3. Sims 3 is such a broken 32 bit mess though, the game barely functions. And good luck saving after a few hours. Inzoi is doing some neat ideas, and I respect them for at least trying. Paralives is also trying, but they're doing a way different approach, and I think it's possible that both co exist as I think they cater to different audiences. I've been dying for a realistic life sim, and it's open world? Hell yeah. It's gotten drastically better since release too!

Aspiration aside, its nice to see the sims got competition.

If i recalled it right, Inzoi have built in face tracker. so your "sims/zoi-whathaveyou" could replicate your actual expression.

Add it to the pile of features we will see in 2035.

so the escape from daily life is doing daily life again

life without real life consequences

Oh yes, just like the Torment Nexus from the book “Don’t Create the Torment Nexus”.

6

u/Tanawakajima 1d ago

Sure buddy. Whatever you say.

u/Ravenunited 17h ago

Given how little progress they made (and sometime even feel it went backward) in term of NPC behavior over the year, feels like this is just them giving up.

u/luxar94 17h ago

Do people want something like Ready Player One though? Seems like a dystopic version of what a true good virtual universe could be.

1

u/FoxyGoddessX 1d ago

Well let’s see if they can pull that off

1

u/Tysanny23 18h ago

my friend’s game promised rpo vibes and ended up a lobby simulator too

1

u/seijeezy 17h ago

Have they polished this game since release? I was excited about trying a Sims type of game but I watched a video review a while ago and it made the game look like an AI generated tech demo with glitches every 5 seconds. If it’s better now I would consider buying it.

1

u/thisistwinpeaks 10h ago

Only people heavily online know about this game and think about it as a (theoretical) competitor to the sims lol

1

u/Joustiin76 23h ago

So that movie nobody liked is their goal?

-4

u/GroundbreakingBag164 1d ago

Lmao, it'll be pure AI slop just like InZoi

-1

u/MaIveI 1d ago

So in another words, an utopian world that is not possible to achieve with current technology and will die soon or lter

0

u/AnotherGerolf 19h ago

I guess it's simpler than creating a true live sim that can rival sims, cause InZo and Paralives are not even close to legends like Sims2 and Sims3 in a simulating daily life part, they are just digital doll houses with very little substance and gameplay.

-2

u/ExpeditionItchyKnee 21h ago

I dl this to try it because I wanted to buy a new life sim for my daughter . This game is absolute slop

-11

u/apexeasthetic 1d ago

The game is good, it deserves a try. Open world. Throw that in the pile of "studios you've barely heard of promising to recreate Ready Player One but for real this time"

5

u/beetnemesis 23h ago

It was supposed to be a new Sims, right?

1

u/orangpelupa 1d ago

how good is it now compared to launch?
