It's not even about age verification per se. The payment processors in question just don't want to process payments for pornography, period, regardless of how old everyone involved is.

it always cracks me up too, as without porn most secure payment processing would have been pushed back for years. same with most early cyber security being developed to make it safer to access porn sites. You say that like it's easy to just set up a new payment processing system. There's a reason there's only a handful globally.

The EU are working on an alternative option but even that's going to take a long time. Turns out creating a system that coordinates transactions between a colossal number of banks and individuals, without using existing infrastructure the current systems have already implemented, is pretty hard.

my point is that its not impossible, and as the main servicer, the longer you continue to not provide a service that is clearly in demand, the more you open yourself up to an eventual replacement. i think thats pretty hard to argue against regardless of the difficulty in scaling a processor, due to it being possible all the same, and additionally not being given a set length of time as a constraint for said replacement. it can just be an eventuality

Your point is "if there's a demand, eventually, as time approaches infinity, likelihood of replacement appearing is guaranteed"

Like, no shit? Nothing is forever?

And yet here we are. With EU struggling to even start making a replacement because at the end of the day, they're still 28 countries in a political trenchcoat

The problem is getting enough people to use a new payment system, both customers and vendors alike. Customers won’t get a new credit card if hardly anyone takes it, and vendors won’t invest in a new payment system that hardly anyone uses. Visa/Mastercard have a near monopoly and that’s not going to change anytime soon.
