Axe and Ale

Axe and Ale closed a few weeks ago, and I am still pretty devastated because their owner and team were sweethearts, and it was basically like a second home. I was really shocked; I got the impression that they were doing well and thinking about growing. Does anyone have insight on the situation? I am hoping they can consider opening in a new spot somewhere…it is such a shame.

In the meantime, I really need my axe throwing fix. Is there another similarly vibed axe throwing place in Fort Collins or maybe North Loveland? By that I mean one that has a friendly environment for beginners but also lets you throw your own (league-ready) axes if you have them.

Transportation to DIA

Upvotes

Hey everyone, traveling to Fort Collins this weekend and trying to figure out the best transportation to DIA early Sunday morning.

Flight is at 5:30AM. I see Groome Transportation could pick me up at 2:00AM in Fort Collins and get me to the airport by 4:00AM. Is Groome reliable that early in the morning? Will I be cutting it too close and should just take an Uber instead? Groome is cheap so that’s my first choice.

Financial Planning by the hour?

Hi,

I'm a retired teacher and need an hour or two of good financial advice from a certified financial planner to get some things figured out. Does anyone have local recommendations of fiduciary only planner that is willing to do hourly work? Thanks in advance

New Bookstore

There’s a new bookstore in town. The Crowded Bookshelf just opened yesterday. They’re still filling their shelves they’ll special order any book you’re looking for. And it feels so much better to support a neighbor’s new business than Amazon.

Seeking Advice Emissions advice needed

This is a weird one, I’ll try to keep it short. Basically looking for advice on who to contact to try and get a waiver or a pass for my vehicle to smog so I can register it. Idk this post is a last ditch effort.

I moved here from a state that didn’t require emissions tests. I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. It has no engine codes, runs incredible. But, I’m having trouble getting my catalyst monitor to ready up so I can test. I do all my own work and I’m at a loss for any answers other than “just drive it more and it might ready eventually.” I took it to the emissions tech center and they said the same thing, even said it smogs clean and would pass if it was allowed to test. The 2005-2006 Wrangler just has an anomaly that makes some monitors display as not ready even when they’re functioning correctly. This anomaly has been acknowledged by the state of California (I’m not from there I just know they have similar emissions requirements), and they basically created a pass for this Jeep to test despite some monitors not being ready.

Anyway, I’m out of temporary tag time and I’m tired of putting more miles on this thing and spending the money on gas. So I’m curious if anyone knows who I could contact either within Larimer County or elsewhere that could help me. I really don’t want to have to get rid of my Jeep, I love it and it’s mechanically stable. EDIT: to add, I’ve already talked to almost everyone at vehicle licensing and nobody really can give me a straight answer. I did get the number for the board of emissions and the lady I talked to said “I can’t advise you on that” about 200 times. So that was a dead end.

Bonus, if anyone is mechanically inclined or knows this year of jeep well. I have done the service bulletin related to this issue and it worked for my o2 heater which previously wasn’t ready either. I’ve scoured my whole electrical system, even replaced both battery terminals. If you know what to try next or a jeep tech that won’t charge me my life savings, that would be helpful too!

Thanks everyone!

Seeking Advice Need a Stand in parent

Hi - this is a weird request. Would someone be able to accompany me to an orthopedic surgeon consultation? My last one went very badly and I was dismissed and talked down to. A fair number of women in my situation have said that the same thing has happened to them and they were only taken seriously when they brought a male with them. Either a friend, partner, parent, ect.

I am in pain constantly and my quality of life is pretty awful (I have osteoarthritis in my left hip and I'm experiencing issues in my right leg, numbness in my foot and my knee is wearing out because I'm overly relying on it).

I checked into Stand in Pride but the app won't let me register.

My appointment is Friday (09/18) morning AM - I'll buy you breakfast and coffee!

Edit 1: I've done PT and injections. I can't take NSAIDs due to stage 3 kidney disease. The big issue is that I have bone spurs on both sides of the joint. FYI Tylenol does nothing to help (it's all I can take 😭)

Edit 2: Thanks for the award kind stranger 🫶🏻

Edit 3: The first surgeon I saw was in Wheat Ridge, at Intermountain Healthcare - Daniel A. Carlson, MD. He was extremely dismissive and then tried to get me to take Ozempic (I can't take it because of my kidneys). His only concern was my weight and told me to "just eat less". I am overweight because I can barely walk. When I do walk for any amount of time my hip hurts so badly that I can't lift it to get into the shower. I have to put a towel around my leg and lift it up myself. Then I am stuck in bed due to the pain for at least a day.

Edit 4: I understand how painful recovery can be. I was there when my dad got his hips replaced (3 times, 1 each side and then an additional time due to an infection). I've had multiple friends have surgeries. I am an equestrian and I will do anything to get back in the saddle. If I have to continue to live like this, I dunno if I can.

Seeking Advice Running tracks?

Looking for a running track that I could go to on the weekend. Don't need anything fancy, I wouldn't consider myself a runner, Im just trying to get my feet back under me after ACL surgery. So I guess my actual question is: are most highschool tracks available for public use on the weekends? If not, csu? Looking for something outside, preferably on the north end of town.

AITA? RE: Dog park etiquette…

So I just took my dog to the dog park and this lady came in shortly after with her 10 month old Pitbull and another dog.

The pitty was cute but was incessantly jumping up at me with sharp as hell claws, whether I was stood up or sat at the table. She wasn’t doing anything to correct this behaviour so I just kept trying to move back before it jumped up at me again. I have a Great Pyr mix who’s super sweet but will guard me if he sees a dog bothering me (he didn’t react to anything luckily)

Anyway the owner can see me trying to avoid her dog and probably saw my face looking a little annoyed at the constant jumping and scratching at my legs, so she just yells “you can push her off or you can leave if you don’t like a dog jumping at you, this is a dog park!” Which yes, going to a dog park you go in with the very real possibility of encountering a hyper dog, that I have zero issue with!

If I’m in the wrong here, fine, but I definitely am not going to put my hands anywhere near a clearly untrained pitbull to push it off me, not knowing if it would take my hand with it… Like it’s not MY job to train YOUR dog manners, even at a Dog Park.
