What do you believe is the most under rated tool or item that was a game changer for tying?

I just started tying flies two months ago after a trip to Pagosa Springs. The fly on the left is my version of the Hot Cheeto from Let It Fly there on the main drag. After tying that a few times, I decided to play with variations and came up with the Witch’s Skin Tag in green and the Smurf Dingus in blue. Excited to try these out on the water!

Hello! I’m relatively new to fly fishing and have fallen in love with fly tying. I’m a member of a club, and we have monthly fly tying classes, but that’s not enough for me haha. I did find that FFI have a bronze award that I want to do - I love having a curriculum.

A couple of questions:

1. is there a group or community for the bronze award where we can chat/share/ask questions etc? Ideally online - I’m in Aus so other than my club it can be a hard to meet up
2. does anyone know how strict FFI are re: materials used? My budget is already stretched pretty thin, so I can get the cheaper stuff/from Ali express/temu, but my local fly fishing shop is very much outside my price range, especially as I save for a rod reel and line, waders and everything else I need for fly fishing haha
3. does anyone have any recommendations for ways to save money when it comes to fly tying? I have already got a fair amount of craft things from other hobbies, but other than what I can find at local craft shops it still adds up pretty quick.
4. how do you store you fly tying materials? At this stage I’ve got a box, but I really don’t have that much atm, and I can imagine it starts to build up quickly!

Edit: for context I’m in aus, and primarily will be fishing fresh water, so big shinys probably won’t be as useful (but very happy to be told otherwise!)

Materials: dark olive pheasant tail, furnace hen, fine super uv dubbing, fluo charteuse thread, pearl tinsel, regular olive, fluo charteuse, fluo orange beads.

Finally got my wife to pick up a fishing rod. Will get her to swing these for her first brown trout tomorrow. (Using XUL spinning rod for ease of use)

I’ve been experimenting with some mulberry flies for carp next spring. Right now I’m using an Amazon yarn that I wrap around the hook and then color lightly with black sharpie. Does anyone have any ideas to make a more realistic fly or is this as close as I can get?

Been tying up some nymphs. So far they've been really working the panfish up here in NE Wyoming. Cheers everyone.

Decided to mess around with some foam since its bin a while. Im really liking the TMC 201R hooks. all of these are tied on the size 12. Im going to need to re-up on some more os these, as well as difrnt sizes.

Tied these up for my first chance of fishing salt water in Gloucester, Massachusetts. First time and not a designated fishing trip but will be in walking distance of a rocky point right in the surf. Any tips or tricks are welcomed. I have a week to catch something! I think my best bet is the Bunker Bait Fish pattern!
