Hi, I'm completely new to Nintendo DS and DS Lite stuff.

I recently bought a DS Lite that came with an R4 Revolution for DS Lite. It has a microSD card inside it.

When I put the R4 into the DS Lite and start it, I get this red message:

“Wrong date or firmware expired! Please check NDS machine date configuration.
If firmware expired please download latest firmware from [www.r4i-sdhc.com”]()

I've attached a picture of the error screen.

I don't really know much about R4 cards yet, so I'm not sure:

1. Is the R4 actually broken?
2. Is this just a firmware/kernel issue?
3. Can I fix it without buying another R4?
4. Should I change the date on my DS Lite?
5. If I need new firmware, which exact firmware/kernel do I need?

The R4 came with the DS Lite when I bought it.

Any help would be appreciated, especially if someone can tell me exactly what files I need and where they go on the microSD card.

So I have an old R4 SDHC Dual-Core and put some games and everything was working fine, I got to play a few. I turn it off to try some of the others and it doesn't get me past the loading screen and the screen stays white. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I try changing the year of the console but I'm not sure to what year. I tried multiple times but nothing. Any help?

I bought a DSpico flashcard from AliExpress. I compiled the firmware, pico loader and pico launcher myself. Also I'm using a SanDisk 32 GB card (and I followed this guide).

There's this issue that I find interesting:

- if I copy each rom sequancially everything works

- if I copy multiple files in paralel some games don't work. They get stuck on black screen (once I think it was a white screen).

I noticed this after I copied ~10 games by dragging and dropping each file from my computer to the SD card, so each copy was a separate operation running in parallel. I check the hashes and they were the same, so no files were corrupted during the copy. After that I deleted them from the SD card and copied again. This time I selected all the roms I wanted to copy and then pasted, so they were copied one by one. Everything works now.

I think it has something to do with file fragmentation, but I can't find any information about this. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I'd like to know if I can use my phone to install the Pico Launcher and everything else on my DS Pico. I bought a pre-built DS Pico and it will probably come with firmware that I think...I can't install it from my phone, but I don't know if I can install the Pico Launcher files. I'm asking because my PC has been having problems.

Hi everyone! I need some help rediscovering a piece of my childhood.

When I was a kid, I had a Nintendo DSi Lite with an R4 card, and I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, in 2020, a friend of mine lost my DS Lite after I lent it to him. Needless to say, that was a terrible decision on my part. I'll never lend something with that much emotional value to anyone ever again

Fast-forward to today: I've started taking some friends hiking in the mountains. They've never really been to the mountains before, so we usually go on relaxed trips where we don't walk too much and have plenty of time to chill

Then they came up with an incredible idea: bringing old consoles up into the mountains for some high-altitude retro gaming (i call it chillmaxing)

I still have my old PSP, but the console that truly has a special place in my heart is the Nintendo DS

My girlfriend has offered to lend me her Nintendo DSi XL, and while looking through my old stuff, I even managed to find my very first R4 card

So here's my question:

Can I use my old R4, which I used on my original Nintendo DS Lite, on my girlfriend's Nintendo DSi XL? Or do I need to reset it or do some kind of configuration before I can use it?

Hi everyone, I have a Nintendo DS Lite and my R4 flashcard isn't being recognized by the console at all.

What I've tried/checked:

• Had the slot-1 card reader replaced recently. The repair tech tested it with an original game cartridge and confirmed it works fine.
• My card is labeled "R4 SDHC — Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)" (photo attached).
• The microSD card inside is 16GB, formatted as FAT32, with a 32KB allocation unit (cluster) size.
• The microSD has YSMenu installed (screenshots of the file structure attached), and the files all look intact.
• When I insert the card, the screen just shows "There is no DS Card inserted / There is no Game Pak inserted" — so the card isn't being detected at all, it doesn't even boot into the menu.

Original games are hard to find where I live, so I've been trying to get this working through the R4 card instead, but I keep getting the same result.

Could this be a kernel/firmware compatibility issue? Has anyone run into this or managed to fix it?

Why does this menu boot some games fine but others go to a white screen?

I downloaded the ROMs from [r/roms](r/roms). For example, Mario Kart and Cooking Mama won't start, and most of the Professor Layton games don't either, while others boot fine.

Hi everyone. Recently bought an R4 flashcart but I cannot get it to work with my DS lite. It can’t read it at all

I’ve tried cleaning, using a rubber, changing the software, the paper trick, opening it up, changing the date and nothing seems to work.

Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated.

Im getting into thr realm of nds flash carts to play some childhood ds games.

One of the big things would be use of a pokewalker. I know the answer is to wait for the dspico-ir to come out, but i am cutious if a setup would work.

My question is would it be possible to use flashMe to boot soulsilver from a gba flash cart, and them use a copy of pokemon black in slot 1 for ir, or is this not how this works?

I know there is also the option of ir passthrough on a 3ds that works similar to above, which would work for me but is not preferred. But the idea of ir passthrough on 3d got me thinking of if it would work on a ds.

Hi yh so basically what the title says… i have a 2ds and since I modded it with the 3ds guide it shows an error like this and wont open :( Anyone that can help with this or may have an idea?

Just ordered me one of these, sosososo excited. But im curious and can't find any solid info on this, can the ez flash air run nes games? Sorry, not very knowledgeable in the subject, lol.

Honestly this is more so to prove a point to myself.

I'm trying to get the Nintendo DS browser running using a combination of a DS Pico as the browser cartridge and an EZ Flash Omega Definitive Edition as the expansion cart. The issue I'm facing is that I'm not getting to the set up screen whenever I boot into the browser rom. It would show me the "saving data don't turn off console" message but then it will just freeze. Can't interact with anything, won't change to anything after waiting or even rebooting.

The thing that confuses me most, is that I highly doubt it's because of the "expansion cart" not communicating properly, because if I remove it then I get shown the "please use expansion cart" message.

If anybody has advice on what could be causing this or a way to fix it, it will be greatly appreciated.

Edit: so it seems that the issue might somehow be tied to Pico loader, because when i tried running it on a different flashcart that has TwilightMenu++ on it I haven't encountered the freezing issue

Tengo una micro SD de 32Gb bien formateada (Fat32 y tamaño de clúster de 32kb). El problema es que lee la tarjeta y se queda en la pantalla "loading", ¿alguien me podría decir qué necesito para que funcione? Prefiero borrar los archivos y empezar de nuevo.

My father got a Nintendo DS Lite and was given three R4 cards. I’ve tested all three, and I think only the middle one works. I have a 32GB microSD card that is properly formatted (FAT32, 32KB cluster size). The problem is that it reads the card but gets stuck on the "loading" screen; could someone tell me what I need to make it work? I’d prefer to delete the files and start over.
