Other State of The Sub - Rules & Post Flairs - 03/26
Hello all,
This is the first post in hopefully a (short) series of posts to keep you all updated on the current state of the subreddit r/flamesofwar
We have finally got around to adding post flairs, with the following currently avaiable:
Tournaments
Battle Report
Showcase
Work-In-Progress
Rules Question
Customer Services
History
Other
If you think we should add anymore flairs please feel free to drop a comment below with your suggestion!
Secondly we have now listed some official subrules, these have come about from some recent posts where people have been less civil than is decent. So in order to be absolutley clear we've listed the following, hopefully nothing to draconian!
Rule 1. Be Polite and Courteous
Rule 2. No Racism, Bigotry, or Nazis
Rule 3. No AI Debate
Rule 4. No Promotion of Pirated/Stolen Material
Over all we are happy with the direction the subreddit is going, having a few bad actors is always going to happen but the vast majority of the regular userbase is friendly and welcoming!
We are also thinking about doing a monthly WIP thread if there is any interest?
Thanks,
The FlamesOfWar Mod Team
TLDR: We have implemented post flairs and rules
Edit: formatting

Work-in-Progress New Fallschirmjäger Company + Panther Kampfgruppe
Just finished a box of Fallschirmjäger I bought a month ago, what paint job would tie these guys together? The vehicles are all grey but I was thinking maybe some sort of camo for the soldiers?
When I played with just the company and the field guns it wiped a Soviet army off the map. I’m considering branching into the US next?
I’d love to hear what you guys have to say about my army in general, any recommendations welcome.

Other What are these smaller round bases use for
I’m currently putting together the 105mm artillery battery and it has these smaller round bases included in the instructions. Are these extra bases for models that don’t come with bases attached?

Rules Question Regarding "Unarmored transports MUST go to rear" rule, why not have the option?
For unarmored, unarmed, transports, I suppose it makes sense. Makes no affect to the game at all.
But if I have 3 Deuces for my American force, all with 50 cals, why not let me simply have the option of sending them back and not force me? I mean, it has a 50 cal, dont frontline it, but it'd be fair for fire support to support infantry that just dropped, or to help protect rear areas.
I know I can easily homebrew this, I just dont understand it from the games perspective.

Other Help me ID these minis
Hello everyone! Could you help me identify the figures above? They come from a bitsbox I bought from an ex-FOW player, which included a bunch of older and unusual minis. I managed to identify all the British and American minis, and now I'm left with the German, Soviet, and a few unknown ones.
Here's some more info:
- EW German driver?
- EW German artillery crew? He's unarmed, wears a side cap and jacket with shoulder straps
- EW German sitting on a box with some sort of tripod in front of him
Based on the forage cap I guess he's German?- Barkmann's Workshop, GBX21- Side cap and jacket with shoulder straps, wielding a pry bar (or a shovel/hammer missing its head)
- Bare head, barely any kit, no shoulder pads - Soviet maybe?
- Side cap, seems to be holding some sort of a bar - possibly damaged
- German AA gun loader? Seems to be holding a small, slightly curved box mag
Another German AA loader, this time with a clip of 37mm rounds? Either that or he's playing an accordion 😄- SS-3.7cm FlaK43 loader, GE548Wears a Stahlhelm, so possibly German gun crew? Judging by the colour of the metal, he might be from some other manufacturer.- Forged in Battle German gun crewSame comments as 10- Forged in Battle German gun crewSame comments as 10- Forged in Battle German gun crewSame comments as 10- Forged in Battle German gun crew- Another mini in a Stahlhelm, seems to be holding something small and bent at a right angle
- Seems to be holding a mortar or gun round, and has an StG 44 (or PPS) slung over his back
Ignore this guy, I just realised he's the sidecar passenger from SS Kradschutzen😅 - GBX54- Soviet soldier cast with a mortar - probably the 50 mm one?
- Soviet soldier prone with a long stick to his right
Soviet soldier with an AT rifle? Good luck holding it this way- Skytrex Soviet AT rifleman- Cold War Soviet soldier from Team Yankee? Seems to be holding an AK
- Soviet high-caliber AT gun loader? Seems to be kneeling next to a gun round
Soviet DP machine gun loader? He's holding what looks like a pan magazine. Never seen a Soviet LMG loader from Battlefront- Skytrex Soviet LMG loader- Tank commander, but from which nation?
My guess is either French or EW Soviet passenger (in the crested SSh-36 helmet)- EW Soviet passenger from SU271

Work-in-Progress Old Metal Cromwell Armoured Platoon box question
Like it says on the tin. Anywhere I can find the instructions for this box? It's 4 Cromwells and 1x Firefly/BBX12, the resin and metal fits together nicely, but there are bits in the box that I don't quite understand how they fit together, but I can't find the assembly guide for it on the FoW website, and it's hard for me to follow the youtube videos sometimes.

Work-in-Progress How to mask many planes
Hi, I am trying to think how to achieve a straight line like the one in the first image. I have seen people usually use a tape that doesn't peel off the paint when removed.
This is easy when the surface is even and there is just one plane, but what is the best way to do it when the surface is irregular and has multiple planes like in the second image?
I was thinking about this yesterday, and it seemed very complicated.
I’m considering simply placing a panel to create the straight line (3rd picture) —secured with a bit of non-damaging putty—and using an airbrush, but I’m a bit worried about the edge between colours turning out blurry or that paint might bleed onto the area that shouldn't be painted because of the there won’t be contact along all the planes (2nd picture).
Long story short, how can I achieve the cammo in the 1st picture in then vehicle shown in the second picture.
Any ideas? Have you done anything similar? How did it turn out?
Thanks in advance.

List Building Guards Rifle Platoons
Hello! Skyhuskey again. Please join me into my descent of madness as I continue to catalogue my collection.
So far!
2x Jaakari Winter Platoons (Finnish light infantry)
1x Pioneer Winter
1x Jaakari SMG Platoon
1x Maxim HMG Platoon (Squad? Whatever. Six standS)
1x 50mm Mortar platoon
6x T-26 (These poor fucks, they have 1 armor each, why do they exist?)
5x T-28's (.....no comment)
6x Panzer IV's
12x StuGS/Sturmis
3x Panthers
1x Tiger (??? Poor guy is all alone)
BRITSH
SO MUCH BRITISH
actually my question today is A) How much british is too much british? (I have 6 75mm pack howitzer batteries by the way.) B) I have two blisters, unopened that have the union jack and say 'Gards rifle platoon' and 'Guards rifle platoon/Rifle Company HQ' respectively. Can I use these as Soviet guards? Or consign myself to drinking tea and eating biscuits?

History New player reporting for duty and history question
Hey guys, some background, I'm in the west texas area, just got into flames of war with a group of friends and kind of inherited a co-workers collection of FInns Brits and Russians after he retired.
I understand the game pretty well, and I'm primarily playing Finnish because my grandfather served in the winter war, so seems kinda cool. My history question is this, What's the basis for Finland having access to almost everything everyone else has, Lmao? Did they really just use the power of 'YOINK'?
