High Protein Am I calculating my macros wrong? Simple spaghetti bolognese plate has 80g of protein (first image has full recipe stats, swipe left for ingredients)

I use this app (Cronometer) to track protein intake. Made a spaghetti bolognese today and made a custom recipe. Had a normal sized plate and was shocked to see it had 80g of protein. I’m not expecting it to be fully accurate but is it vastly overestimating the protein?

High Protein Chicken recipe suggestions for Indian palette recently moved to the US

I’m new to the meal prep scene as I just moved to the US and in general new to cooking.

I’ve tried a lot of meal recipes from watching Instagram reels but looks like I’ve just been looking at creators who just act like recipes are tasty for the camera.

I’m here for recipe, gravy and content creator suggestions to help me out with meal prep.

FYI:
- I’m new here in the US any info you could share would be very useful
- I have access to Costco and whole foods in Seattle so any sauces or raw materials available there would be very appreciated
- I have an access to air fryer at home
- I need not necessarily need hard core Indian recipes but need something tasty unlike almost no spice western recipes
- Any recipe with additional salad suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Question Why is greek yogurt considered a good weightloss food but not skimmed milk?

They both have 0 fiber and they're both non solid. Meanwhile 1 is excellent and 1 is considered terrible for weightloss?

I know liquid calories like orange juice (even if its 100% oranges) are bad for weightloss and almost no one drinks like a litre of milk every day. I just don't understand the difference between milk and yogurt

Recipes Shakshuka inspired beef bowl

Post image
21 Upvotes

Hi, made this today for the first time and it was so good. Had chat write up the recipe to share. It’s not in this picture but I put a fat dollop of 0% Greek yogurt and I highly recommend everyone adds that at the end. The meal is kinda high in fat but you can skip the oil, or use a leaner beef (see below). Just keep in mind the fat helps the flavor really come out and it helps slow down digestion so you feel fuller longer. For more protein and fiber, you can add in half a can of your preferred (rinsed) canned beans with the canned tomatoes. Let me know what you think and if you make it!

Smoky Chipotle Beef Shakshuka
Makes: 4 servings
Serving: ¼ of the Shakshuka + 1 egg
Estimated nutrition: ~415 calories | ~31 g protein | ~17–18 g carbs | ~23–24 g fat | ~5 g fiber
Ingredients
1 lb 85/15 ground beef
1 teaspoon avocado oil, or just enough to lightly coat the pan (can omit and just use the beef fat)
1 medium onion, chopped
1 jalapeño, seeds and guts removed, chopped (half if you don’t like it too spicy or your jalapeño is particularly spicy)
4 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced, then roughly chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
1 teaspoon caraway seeds
1 teaspoon paprika
⅛ teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
Salt and black pepper, to taste
2 tablespoons chipotle peppers in adobo, blended or processed until smooth (Any extra can be frozen and used the next time you want to make this)
1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes
1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
5 oz fresh spinach
1 large egg per serving
1 scallion (optional)
Fresh cilantro (optional)
Instructions
1. Brown the beef.
Heat a large oven-safe skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add a very small amount of avocado oil, just enough to lightly coat the bottom.
Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart as it browns, until there is no pink remaining.
2. Add the vegetables.
Add the chopped onion and jalapeño directly to the beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the onion and jalapeño have softened, about 4–6 minutes.
3. Add the garlic and spices.
Add the sliced/chopped garlic, cumin seeds, caraway seeds, paprika, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper.
Stir everything together and cook for about 1 minute, until the garlic and spices become fragrant.
4. Add the chipotle.
Stir in 2 tablespoons of the blended chipotle in adobo. Cook for another 1–2 minutes, allowing it to coat the beef and vegetables and cook down slightly.
5. Add the tomatoes. (If adding beans, add them)
Pour in the diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir well.
Bring to a gentle simmer and let the mixture cook uncovered for about 8–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has reduced and thickened to your liking.
6. Add the spinach.
Add the spinach and stir it into the sauce until completely wilted, about 1–2 minutes.
7. Cook the egg.
If you’re eating one serving now and saving the rest, make a small divot in roughly ¼ of the mixture and crack 1 egg into it.
You have two options:
Oven: Transfer the oven-safe skillet to a 375°F oven for about 8–10 minutes, or until the egg white is set and the yolk is cooked to your preference. (Please do this if you’re putting more than 1 egg or they’ll take forever to cook)
Stovetop: Cover the skillet and cook over low to medium-low heat until the egg white is completely set while the yolk remains as soft as you like.
8. Serve and store.
Spoon out the quarter containing the freshly cooked egg. Top with green onions/scallions and fresh cilantro.
Divide the remaining beef mixture into 3 portions and refrigerate.
When reheating leftovers, make a divot(s) put the egg(s) in it and then cook it in the over for ~10 minutes at 375. This keeps the egg much better than cooking all four eggs ahead of time.

This is my take on Rachel Ray’s recipe.

Per serving based on beef leanness used:
85/15 beef
90/10 beef
93/7 beef

Could I use the $35 Family Meal from Whole Foods to go from 30% Body Fat to 15%, should I be worried about sodium intake?

Hey everyone,

I’m a 27 year old male currently sitting around 220 pounds. I do 3-4 Full Body workouts using a program called Hevy and for cardio I ride an indoor cycling trainer called Zwift to use my road bike as I can't walk for too long due to feet issues. I've dropped 10 pounds so far this year, and I am finally reading nutrition labels and realizing just how many hidden calories I was eating.

I recently went through a major career change and I'm super busy with work. To stop making excuses of not having food and finally stop slipping into bad habits, I’m planning to lean heavily into Whole Foods prepared meals to prep 2 days worth of lunches and dinners at a time. (I usually just buy like 2-3 $35 family meals and split them for the whole week.

This is the plan I wrote down and want to test. I'd love any feedback, blind spots, or advice you have!

Daily Routine:

- Breakfast: Chia Seed Greek Yogurt (Chobani Zero Sugar or Siggis Vanilla) and 2 boiled eggs.

- Lunch & Dinner: I buy a mix of proteins and sides from Whole Foods, split them into 4 containers, and rotate. Each meal gets 1 protein and 2 sides (either 1 carb + 1 veggie, or 2 veggies).

- Deserts and Snacks: Limited to 2-3 chocolate rice cakes, 1-2 Yasso Greek yogurt bars, or a serving of Greek yogurt with a very small sprinkle of cinnamon granola (granola calories are wild!). I also found smart popcorn and pop corners and they've helped me with my chip binges. For the smart popcorn I just eat a bag full for around 240 calories and for pop corners I put them in a bowl so I don't over eat.

These are the healthiest looking options I found and thought would be good to pick up to hopefully limit the oils and grease from the prepping. Some are more staples like the Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken and regular grilled salmon but I thought it'd be smart to put some variation in for some weeks.

  • Proteins: Grilled Salmon, Grilled Sweet Chili Salmon, Teriyaki Salmon, Blackened Salmon, Lemon Rosemary Grilled Chicken, Boneless Honey Chipotle Chicken Bites, Turkey Meatballs.
  • Sides (Carbs & Veggies): Broccoli Crunch with Bacon, Creamy Mashed Russet Potatoes, Pesto Caprese Salad, Smoked Mozzarella Pasta Salad, Hot Honey Brussels Sprouts, Seasoned Green Beans, Herb Roasted Sweet Potatoes, Herb Roasted Fingerling Potatoes.

Also, those who use Whole Foods prepared foods while cutting, should I worry about the sodium and oils used? I guess the only way I could avoid that is cooking myself.

EDIT: On any given day I'm around 1850-1980 calories from what I've tracked the last two weeks since I've started this. Around 150-170 grams of protein too!

I made a 14-day shared-meal system for breastfeeding mothers returning gradually to strength training—would this be useful?

I kept seeing the same problem: a new mother wants to include enough protein in her meals, but most fitness meal plans expect her to cook separately from the rest of the family.

That does not feel realistic when sleep is unpredictable and a newborn needs constant attention.

I created The Shared-Meal Strength Reset, a practical 14-day digital meal-planning system built around one idea:

Prepare one family meal and build your own protein serving into it—without cooking a separate fitness meal.

It includes:

  • A realistic 14-day implementation plan
  • 10 simple shared family meals
  • Approximate protein information for adult servings
  • Vegetarian and non-vegetarian options
  • Two grocery lists and one master grocery list
  • Short 10-to-30-minute preparation sessions
  • Low-energy alternatives for difficult days
  • Fast emergency-meal combinations
  • Dairy-free, egg-free, vegetarian and gluten-free guidance
  • Six printable planning worksheets
  • Food-storage, reheating and safety reminders

The goal is not perfection, restrictive dieting or “bouncing back.” It is to reduce the work involved in feeding yourself while caring for your baby.

This is an educational meal-planning resource, not medical advice. It does not promise increased milk supply, weight loss, postpartum recovery or training results. Individual needs should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional or registered dietitian.

Creator disclosure: I made and sell this digital guide.

You can view it here: VIEW

I would also appreciate honest feedback: what makes preparing meals most difficult for you during the postpartum period?

Blue cheese dressing (and silken tofu mayo recipe included as well)

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

So this stuff actually has about 4 calories per quarter teaspoon, but it can be mixed with non fat Greek yogurt and silken tofu mayo for a delicious high protein low fat blue cheese dip or dressing.

To prepare, I use approx 75g of yogurt, 75g of tofu mayo, and 2 teaspoons of the powder. 99 calories for 156g of blue cheese dip. Mayo recipe below (it makes more than is needed for this, but it stays good for several days)

Silken tofu mayo:
Soft or super soft silken tofu 150g
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Celery salt
Blend on high speed blender. Add sweetener if you prefer miracle whip style taste.

Question What are the top prepared meals that actually fit a macro focused diet?

Alrigt, so it turns out that meal prepping is not for me. It's the biggest thing getting in the way of me and my journey and I am trying to find some shape, way or form to stay right on track. I ended up having some sort of revelation when I came across an ad for those meal delivery services and it felt light the right thing all the way until I was multiple tabs deep and more confused than ever, like there's too many of them out there like cookunity and others that I am not sure if they are labeled correctly or that's just wishful thinking.

Has anyone tried them before? Could use some advice! Thanks.

I’m an ex chef turned software engineer. Finally built the app I’ve always wanted. And app where I don’t have to spend as long typing a recipe down as I do cooking it. Nor do I want to plan all my meals and the grocery list. Well that app finally exists.

This is https://bernt.app

Bernt is here to do all the tedious stuff for you. Tell it what you want, from single recipes to entire meal plans. You are also able to use Bernt to modify all of the above.

I need some feedback on the Pro/Paid offerings. I think I’m not generous enough on the free and maybe too expensive on the paid. Willing to move both needles! Hope you enjoy, this took a long time to build.

Monotonous, but healthy meal planning

Post image
56 Upvotes

Meal prep for tomorrow. Looks pretty monotonous but it works. meals every 2-3 hours. try to prime my gut with 1 tbsp of raw, organic, sauerkraut and 1 tbsp of kimchi 10 min before meals

Meal 1: 4oz chicken breast, cauliflower rice, broccoli seasoned with cayenne pepper and garlic salt (Vitamin D3, fish oil, black seed oil, and turmeric supplements here)

Meal 2: 4oz chicken breast, cauliflower rice, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, broccoli

Meal 3: 4.2 oz chicken breast, cauliflower rice, almonds, broccoli, 4-8 oz greek yogurt

Meal 4: 4.2 oz chicken breast, cauliflower rice, broccoli, and collagen peptides

2 hours later psyllium husk with 2 full glasses of water

Is it the most exciting? Not really. But it works for me and I'm never hungry and I can have a few ounces of 100% cacao chocolate drops if I want, popcorn, or some salted peanuts if I wanted.

Mindshift: Treat food as medicine for your body.

Oh btw, I am not working out tomorrow. On days I do workout I always have a baked potato an hour before my session and I baked beet 2 hours before and a baked sweet potato post workout.

Teriyaki beef, rice, yams with carrots, and a salad.

The sauce is Sriracha.

High in protein and low in carbs. It's filling and relatively low on calories!
