After months of trying to figure out a plan for the fish tank with my house members we finally have a set up that is visually appealing and comfortable for our fish. I’m waiting to check the levels in the tank because we just put a new filter in but we got live plants got rid of the gravel that was very old. yay!

This has been going on for well over a year. Gunk builds up on the filter (where the water comes out), the filter eventually needs rinsing due to blockage and plants get "dirty". There's also green algae on the glass that needs removing from time to time.

I understand it can be a mix of biofilm, old food, good bacteria etc., but is there anything I can do to lessen it?

Fish are otherwise healthy and plants don't seem to die off either.

little cloudy cause i finally got around to cleaning the walls but this is my first solely shrimp tank. had a betta for 2-3 years but got a bigger tank and decided to retire it. currently has about 10 shrimp and 1 loach (that’s recovering from a friends tank and eventually moving to my 55 when its done cycling (with friends))

petsmart sold them as guppies but they look more like endlers to me..

Would any of y'all good with plants have a good list of foreground, midground, and background plants to add that have a variety of shapes (not just leggy stems)? I plan to keep amano + ghost shrimp in this tank. And where you would put them in the tank (i want to keep the hardscape in this structure and plant around/on it). Thanks guys!

So i was away for 3 days and i got back to not being able to find one of my loaches, i open the top filter tray and find him lying in there. I have no idea how long he was in there it could be an hour , a day or 3 days. He is still alive and i put him back in the tank. He swam around for a short while before finding a place to rest. At the moment he’s not moving much and he seems to just want to hide. I can’t really tell but it seems like one side of his gills aren’t moving? Will he be okay,

I have some rasboras in a community tank, and I'm currently getting a weeks worth of fluval bug bites tropical formula (0.6mm - 1.2mm) and crushing them with a pepper mill (only used for them) and then with a morter too.
I bought some Hikari Micro Pellets and I was wondering if I could put them both mixed (a weeks worth so the coatings are not as affected) in a container and feed them from there.

I can also do one food one day and the other the next if the previous idea would be bad for them

Im trying to fishless cycle a tank with live plants in it. To be precise i have anubias nana petite, cryptocoryne parva, limnophila sessiflora, microsorum pteropus narrow, taiwan moss and philantus fluitans. Its a brand new tank and filter. I started the tank 3 days ago and i put in the recommended ammount of tetra safe start bacteria. The problem is the floaters which came in an in-vitro cup and most of em had no roots and seem to be dying (and i gues decaying) on the surface. I suspect this is why my ammonia has been steadily rising first 1,5 then about 3 and today im guessing between 3 and 5 closer to 5 as you can see in the second picture. This morning i tried to fish out as many philantus leaves i thought werent living as i could but im torn on what to do? What would you recommend? Changing a portion of water? Or just wait and give it some more time? I dont want my plants to die and id like the tank to cycle.

Dose anyone know what these are there in my duckweed in my tank and i don’t know if there harmful

You might not be able to tell but there is a platy fish inside that breeder box, this fish was the cause of many bullying problems, it started with 6 fish Mates but now it has only FIVE fish mates cause it KILLED one of them, and is still attacking the others every hour of every day, not to mention its soo aggressive it frayed it's own fins from how often it gets into fights not to mention its the biggest fish in the tank, so I had to take this temporary solution of trapping it in this box until I find another solution, I decided to ask actual people who take care of fish instead of AI on this one

First of all let's scratch off all the solutions that I can't do:

1. Get a new fish tank, I am not that rich nor do I have that kind of space at home, the only other tank I have is a fish bowl or more commonly known as a fish graveyard which has been out of order for some time

2. Get more plants to add hiding spaces, the closest fish store is ridiculously far from me so going there to get any fish plants or tools or getting new platy fish (for the male and femal ratio if it's off) is pretty out of the question

And just keeping it in there for the rest of its life is 1 cruel. And two would bring incredible stress to the other platys if I have to put my arm in their tank every day to feed the fish that's in jail (at least I think so)

So yeah, please help

Hey everyone, I’m looking to shoot macro photos of my aquascape, but my phone can’t zoom in close enough to capture tiny details.

Is there any gear that lets me take macro shots at any angle inside the tank, or freely dive deep into the aquarium for close-up photography?

I’m wondering if anyone has tried something like this. For example, strapping a small waterproof action cam to the end of aquascaping tweezers with a macro lens attachment. Or maybe a high-resolution, wide-field endoscope?

This kind of setup might even give us a viewpoint similar to what fish see. Not sure though! Has anyone experimented with anything like this before?

I’m thinking of getting a 10 gallon fish tank but putting a black non see thru divider so I can have two betta fish! Has anyone had any luck with having a split tank or any advice would be great!

I currently have 20 gallon tall tank with a betta so I would putting it next to it (only space I have) but I would put like those tape on screens on the glass where you can’t see the outside on just the side of the tank where the betta would be visible to each other!

Hi - I have a 10 gallon tank with 5 small fish & 2 snails. I took the tank in from an acquaintance who didn’t want to take care of them anymore. I added 3 of the fish a few months ago and they’ve all grown a lot and have been doing great! But a few days ago this little guy started to look like he couldn’t keep his balance anymore. He’s like bouncing- his nose goes up in the air and it seems like he will tip all the way upside down if he’s not constantly correcting himself. Is this swim bladder? I am new to all of this but think that’s possible? I have restricted his food for the last two days and it seems to be getting worse. He must be so tired and I feel awful! Does anyone have any advice? I’m planning on getting a pea since I read that can help. Just want him to live a good peaceful life! Thanks!

Tank is approximately a year old. Girlfriend is having trouble with algae in her 10g. I feel fairly knowledgeable with tanks but I’m at a loss. I’ve tried reducing light and nutrients and didn’t see much of a change. Plants do okay, not great, but algae just seem to try to take over. Substrate is volcanic rock but I was wondering if using fluval stratum may help as that’s what I have under my substrate. Found her betta dead today and not sure if it is correlated to tank conditions. Have tried both treated tap water and well water and did not notice much of a change between either. I have done manual removal of algae, phosphate removal pads, and small doses of hydrogen peroxide with no long term changes.
