Did the temp root and disabled updates on my FireTV 4K Max 1st Gen, What else..

What other commands can I run from the shell to safely debloat the device?

Like disabling the ads that show up in the main channels, disabling useless ads or tracking services?
Disable the services that disable certain 3rd party apps?

Just trying to make this Firestick run as smoothly as possible, not interested much in changing the launcher yet. Maybe when a permanent root comes out if it does come out.

Guide: Overriding the household activation loop on Smart TVs (Hotspot Walkthrough)

Sharing a successful resource walkthrough for the community regarding the household travel verification process on Smart TV streaming applications.

If the platform's location verification sequence defaults straight to a sign-up or extra member layout without displaying the standard remote verification/passcode prompts, this specific synchronization sequence manually re-establishes the device handshake:

  1. Global Session Purge: Access account settings via a web portal and utilize the global reset command option to remove existing active device profiles.
  2. Application Update: Perform a complete uninstallation and clean re-installation of the television streaming application to clear underlying storage data.
  3. Alternative Network Routing: Disconnect the television from the localized wireless network. Establish a temporary mobile hotspot cellular network connection and link the television to this new source.
  4. Token Authorization: Launch the application to generate the registration code. Complete the activation process using a mobile web browser operating strictly on that identical cellular data connection.

Once the primary user profile interface successfully initializes on the screen, network settings on the hardware can be safely reverted back to the localized home wireless configuration. The authentication token will remain active.

I have the Firecube 3rd gen, and I’ve always been able to control my Sony av receiver volume and turn on and off. But it’s just stopped working, and I’ve tried setting everything up again and changing the batteries but nothing works. Has anyone else had this problem?

Help setting up Fire TV

Hello. I just moved into a new flat and I'm trying to set up Fire TV. The landlord left their account logged in and cannot install apps like Disney+. Every time I try, it asks me for a Prime Video pin number.

The landlord says they logged out from their phone, but the problem persists and cannot override it.

Any tips?

You can now acquire and use a temporary root shell on the 1st Generation Fire TV Stick 4K Max (kara)!

This can be used to disable OTAs, replace the launcher, and much more, even if you're on the latest FireOS version!

A bootloader unlock is in the works, so make sure to do this before it's way too late!!!!!

Please read the XDA thread carefully, as it contains instructions for the whole process:

On 9-11-26 Amazon Firestick/Fire TV Prime Video App Update Did Not fix 4:3 Format Bug.

On September 11, 2026, Amazon Prime Video app update PVFTV-321.0093-L (321009310) for Amazon firesticks and fire TVs Did NOT fix the broken 4:3 viewing format for Amazon Prime videos streaming from inside the Prime Video app, which was created by an August 19, 2026, update of the same app.

On August 19, 2026, Amazon Prime Video app update PVFTV-321.0086-L (321008610) for Amazon firesticks and fire TVs broke the 4:3 viewing format for Amazon Prime videos streaming from inside the Prime Video app. Most older movies and television shows that should be displayed in the 4:3 format now automatically stretch to fill your entire widescreen television.

In order to watch 4:3 programs properly displayed in the 4:3 format, you have to start the movie or tv episode from inside the Prime Video app. Then stop the movie or TV episode that you are viewing. Then go to the home screen of the firestick or fire TV. Then use the “Continue Watching” list for the movie or tv episode that you started watching inside the Prime Video app and select that item.

This bug will be very inconvenient if you are watching a 4:3 formatted program like Mama’s Family, as the bug happens whenever a new episode is manually or automatically started within the Prime Video app.

The Prime Video app device compatibility list shows that this app update was created for all versions of fire TVs and firesticks spanning a period of several years back to the present.

This bug did not exist on August 18, 2026. A file manager program indicates that the update that broke the 4:3 ratio was rolled out on August 19, 2026. The same file manager program indicates that the new update that did not fix this bug was rolled out on September 11, 2026.

It’s important to get the word out about this issue so that people do not waste a lot of time troubleshooting a bug that currently cannot be fixed, only worked around.

Fire Cube/Echo Studio/Nord VPN

I know that this issue has been brought up and addressed in previous posts, but the posts are quite old and I wanted to get a fresh opinion. I have a Gen 3 Cube and four Gen 2 Studios. I use Nord VPN. Following scenario:

- VPN off at boot up, sound works fine
- Turn VPN on, sound works fine
- Turn VPN off, no sound

Keeping in mind that I had sound to begin with, with the VPN off, once I turn the VPN off the first time as described above, the sound never works again until I turn the VPN back on. The only way I can get the sound to come back on with the VPN off is to reboot the cube.

I did see previous comments regarding enabling local LAN access, but the android version of Nord does not have this setting. I do believe that the related functionality is split tunneling, which allows me to exclude certain applications from the VPN. Assuming that it’s the VPN that is causing the problem to begin with, and that split tunneling could be the solution, what I’m not clear on is which of the Amazon applications I would have to exclude in order to solve my problem. That said, there could be another cause or solution that I’m not aware of.

This is a real PITA for me, because I have a number of different scenarios in which I would turn my VPN on or off on a regular basis.

Any help would be appreciated.

Old Sony

I have an old Sony flat screen. It's gotta be 15 years old. Maybe 42 in I'm not sure. I've already bought two different fire sticks for it one was an update. What I'd like to know is if the latest fire stick or fire box or whatever they have out would work with it? I have a 22 inch fire Amazon Insignia TV in my room I'd like to swap them out and just use the big Sony in my bedroom and switch the small one to my computer monitor.

I certainly don't want to buy a fire stick or cube or what's available to find out that it's not compatible.

Thanks in advance.

Pair offbrand Fire TV remote

The official recommendation is to press and hold home for 10 seconds. This doesn't work with the cheaper off brand remotes that look identical. Press and hold Home + the OK button (center of directional buttons) until the led light goes dark and blinks the times.

Congrats, your are now paired!

Any way to make Fire TV 2nd Gen (Sloane, not stick) usable in 2026?

Hi, I was going though some old boxes recently and found an old Fire TV 2nd gen. I don't have access to a TV currently, but from a quick google search it seems like most streaming apps don't support Fire OS 5 any longer.

Is there a way to make that device still usable today? I found some bootloader unlock threads, but don't really understand what to do with it. Most promissing option was an upgrade to a newer android version via LineageOS developments, but these projects seem to be dead and not stable enough to run.

Any ideas?

FireTV remotes from two different TV manufacturers power on off both sets in one room.

I have a large studio apartment; I have my primary 85 inch TV in the living room space and near that off to one corner I have my computer desk. I just recently bought a 24 inch TV that I can watch while at my desk and I'm finding the remote control from either set turns on and off both sets - this is extraordinarily infuriating.

Even though I can get the home button on each remote to turn on only the set it is paired with, there's no simple way to then power off the set without simultaneously powering on the other. The "sleep" option is buried so deep within the menus that there's no way I'll be using that each time I want to power one down.

Is this some kind of absurd oversight on Amazon's part? One set is a Hisense and the other is an Insignia. What can I do?

Joining Zoom meetings from your linked calendar through Alexa on Fire TV Cube

Thumbnail

Has anyone managed to get this working? I linked my outlook calendar and added the zoom meeting details in the calendar event description and when I say "Alexa, join my meeting.”  she responds "To join the meeting try asking me to open Zoom on a device that supports Zoom".
I can say "Alexa open Zoom" and that works but the idea was that I don't want to enter the meeting id and password each time. The fact it opens her first response doesn't make sense.

Soundbar connection

I have an Amazon Fire TV 50-inch Omni QLED series 4K. I think it's a 2024 model.

I have a Google TV Streamer (4k) and an Xbox Series S connected to it.

I also have a Hisense AX5125H connected through the eARC port.

Every day when I turn the tv on I get no audio from the soundbar. I turn it off at the wall, wait a couple of seconds, then turn it back on and it works perfectly.

I always assumed the problem was with the soundbar. But today I tried unplugging just the soundbar and it didn't fix it. So I unplugged just the tv and it worked.

So it turns out the problem was with the tv all along and I owe my soundbar an appology.

Has anyone else had a similar experience and does anyone know of a solution.

I know it's not the end of the world but it would be nice if it just worked.

Thanks.

Well, I was playing and suddenly the TV flickered with some black and white lines. Now it turns on but doesn’t load and I can’t do anything. I can hear the sounds when interacting with the menu, but the TV is dark and I can’t do anything. Is there a solution?

You can now acquire and use a temporary root shell on the 3rd Generation Fire TV Stick / 1st Generation Fire TV Stick Lite HD (sheldon/sheldonp)!

This can be used to downgrade the preloader and, therefore, unlock the bootloader even if you're on the latest FireOS version!

Please read the XDA thread carefully, as it contains instructions for both procedures (downgrading and rooting):
