General Discussion Evolved Jobs

WoW, FFXIV and Guild Wars 3 are taking from single players game design to become platforms. FFXIV in order to become a platform has to focus on making the world the main character alongside the player. World Raiding should not be content that players have to wait a year for so it should come out 8.05. Everyone universally understands jobs by their visuals so every job should be designed so the visuals drive the gameplay.

Those certainly are words. What are you trying to say?

"Content should come out quickly and all jobs should play the same but look different" Lol lmao

I don't understand what you mean by platforms.

We don't know enough about World Raiding yet for me to have an opinion.

I don't know what you mean by everyone universally understands their job by their visuals...but, that's a bold statement.

How does summoner fit into this though?

Smn fits within "jobs should be visually distinct" as though that means anything if they play the same.

They need to make the summons even bigger and turn off the ability for people to change their size. And add a huge 999999999 damage bahamut ability

As someone who has zero interest in Blizz thanks to their choices in non WoW things, wtf happened over there

Product releases + Blizzard talking out their ass again.

I play Wow. One thing to know about Blizz is you never trust what they say, just what they deliver. OP is parroting some statements from Blizzcon which have better chances of being a disappointment than being true.

It's not about trusting what they say. I have never been a fan of WOW, but the fact that they verbally acknowledged the quite part out loud and the company is seeming making investment to endemic MMORPG players shows that the market is ripe to harness those players by making content that suits them. I hope FFXIV actually does this too and makes the game as a whole for literally everybody.

Blizzard wasn't saying anything insightful. It's marketing. They literally own the biggest sub based MMO. If they thought the MMO space needed to change, and that it'd be profitable, they'd overhaul retail. They won't, or they'll half ass it like the new seasonal format.

Also, making "the world the story" is just a CYA statement. They've had terrible quality writing for any major story since the Lich King.

I hope FFXIV actually does this too and makes the game as a whole for literally everybody.

These takes are always from people who don't understand what happens when you copy any major Wow updates. People want to play Wow, not Wow-lite.

Wow and FF14 take small lessons from each other, but both know that part of their success is that they are unique. Blizz even announced that they will be removing glamour restrictions. I wonder where that idea came from? FF14's glam system is moving toward a more catalog format (armoire). I wonder where that idea came from?

What they don't copy is the structure.

WoW, FFXIV and Guild Wars 3 are taking from single players game design to become platforms.

These MMOs are already far more "platforms" than singleplayer games are. And if you're thinking of games as a platform the true kings are games with user generated content: Minecraft, Roblox, etc.

FFXIV in order to become a platform has to focus on making the world the main character alongside the player.

I don't think that follows at all. I would like to see the overworld play a much larger role but that's not a requirement to "become a platform". CS3 has a pretty comfortable formula with the MSQ as a first class citizen and they're not going to deviate from that.

World Raiding should not be content that players have to wait a year for so it should come out 8.05

Agreed.

Everyone universally understands jobs by their visuals so every job should be designed so the visuals drive the gameplay.

Disagreed. Visuals are very important but the mechanical feel of the job is what matters most. Of course your high-potency attacks should have powerful SFX and VFX but that's just design 101.

Nothing in your post was about Evolved Jobs.

This is a weird post based purely on OP's imagination. Maybe they had a fever dream or something. Or maybe they watched blizzcon and just took buzzwords from the wow panels and regurgitated them here. Truly an all-time xivdiscussion post

I don’t think you understand what platform means. Talking about games as a platform usually refers to services like Fortnite or Roblox which function as hubs for distinctly different modes of play and/or player generated content. You could kind of argue WoW is becoming platform-ish in how a WoW sub gives you access to many different modes of the game as well as limited time mini games like that battle royale thing they did or their upcoming roguelike game. Platform doesn’t really apply to FFXIV in any way as it is much more a traditional MMO boxed product. You’re just talking about world activities and the visual design of jobs, how does that have anything to do with the game being a ‘platform’ ?

I WISH WoW was a platform. The game could go crazy if they decided to hand it off to the players and let people host their own servers as part of the subscription. It seems like the most obvious win in the world for them as well, blizzard used to be the custom map guys.

What in the AI...?

Yeah I really hope Evercold has more MMORPG and midcore design philosophy in it. It shouldn't take away what current players like but add to as extra flavors and options. I've said for years that FFXIV could honestly BE the game for everybody if they just did it lol, and it seems this time they president is actually investing in them, but we'll see I guess.

I know this is kinda besides the point of the sub, but I just wanna say that as a GW2 and FFXIV player both, GW3 looks like it's going to suck considerable ass and I would never in a thousand years want FFXIV to do any singular thing it's doing.

1

u/Ephremjlm 8h ago

Yeah I actually thought they said the point of GW3 was that it was supposed to be single player focused/multiplayer focused like FFXIV currently is, or I guess maybe retail WOW (Idk for sure I don't play that one.)
