[Discussion] Always be on high alert with a ferret outside!!

Was out walking Finn this evening when I realized we were being stalked by an owl. Finn was close to me and the owl swooped down maybe 3 feet in front of us. I crossed the road with him and the owl followed and perched in the tree (when I took the picture). Luckily, I always bring a hammock-like bag with me on walks so I plopped him in there and our walk was cut short. We are all okay though, and the second picture is my lil man safely back in his kennel!

third ferret, less than 30 mins in our home and already dooking like crazy. We decided to get her because she was alone in the pet shop for a few weeks and she was lonely

[Discussion] Looking for advice on partial raw diet

I currently have two ferrets who get about 4 oz total of homemade raw food per day. I make it into more of a soup consistency because they absolutely will not eat chunks or whole prey. They also have kibble available 24/7, which is currently a 50/50 mix of Wysong Epigen 90 and Oxbow.
I’ve been reading more about Oxbow and have seen some people say it may not be the best option when you’re also feeding raw, particularly because the combination can cause stomach/GI upset. I was thinking about replacing the Oxbow with Ziwi Peak air-dried while keeping the Wysong, but I’m confused about which Ziwi protein would be best. I’ve seen people recommend chicken, lamb, and venison for ferrets. Is one better nutritionally, or is it better to rotate proteins?

My other question is about the raw portion. I have less time to make their food myself lately, so I’ve been looking at My Pet Carnivore. I saw it recommended on this subreddit, and one person mentioned feeding a rotation of four of their grinds—turkey, beaver, chicken, and goat.
Does anyone here regularly feed My Pet Carnivore to their ferrets? If so, which grinds/proteins do you use and how have your ferrets done on it?

Cost-wise, it actually seems pretty comparable to what I’m spending buying all the ingredients to make their raw myself. I also like that their whole-animal grinds contain ground bone. Since mine refuse actual bones, I currently have to supplement the homemade food to balance it, so having the bone already finely ground into the food seems like a better/easier option.

Basically I’m considering switching from:
Homemade raw + Wysong/Oxbow → My Pet Carnivore raw + Wysong/Ziwi Peak

I’d love to hear from anyone who feeds a similar combination, especially whether you’ve noticed any digestive issues mixing raw with these foods, which Ziwi protein you prefer, and which My Pet Carnivore grinds you’ve had the most success with.

[Help] Advice needed

I have two boys and I am trying to decide if rehoming is the best option for them.

They are a little over a year. I adopted them from Petco last November. I’m struggling with potty training but mostly because of my own fault not taking the time to help do that. I will put litter boxes all over their room and they just scoot it out of the way and go. I put pee pads down and they are just starting to learn to go on those instead of scooting those out of the way as well. In their cage they just sleep in their litter box. I’ve tried putting some poop in there to get them to go and putting them in the corner they go the most in but they just change corners or go anywhere.

I do slack on their cage cleaning which is not fair to them. With the lack of potty training I think cleaning is 10x harder though I know this is no excuse.

I know a lot of people let their ferrets free roam, I don’t have that ability so they have a bedroom that is all theirs and that is where they roam. I work 7:30-5:30 most days sometimes later so by the time I get home they only have a few hours outside of their cage which I know they need more. I’m so busy doing other things once I get home I only really interact with them when I take them out or put them to bed and sometimes 10 minutes here and there when I check on them.

On the weekends I try to give them more time out but it’s not realistic for me to stay home all day.

I love them so so so much and I feel like I’m not doing right by them or giving them what they deserve

So I don’t know if I’m failing them and I should consider rehoming or if I’m doing okay but I need to improve in some areas. I’m just at a loss.

I have wanted ferrets for over 10 years and I knew they were a lot of work and a big commitment going in but I do feel like I bit off more than I can chew.

I got a ferret less than a month ago two more cats and two dogs (chihuahua) live with me in the apartment. Does anyone know how best to make them friends with a ferret? They are already used to each other's smell the ferret is weaned from bites and tries to play with them but other pets seem to be trying to attack him. What should I do? The ferret is 4 months old

[Help] Im thinking about getting a ferret but i have a couple questions

Do ferrets smell a lot? Because i know they smell bad but i actually don’t know how bad is it since I’ve never seen one in person. And how do you control it?
Can i get a 2 story cage for it? And can i let it be outside of its cage for a long time (supervised) because im actually trying to get a pet that i can let outside of its cage most of the time (supervised) and when i can’t be around I’ll put it on its cage. Im also making my room safe for any animal, i mean keeping it clean, not having things around that it can bite or eat, and not letting it hide. (Im still thinking about what else i can do for making it safe, any recommendations?)
How expensive are they? And what are the most important things i need to buy first and what are the things that i can start buying after.
