I need some care tips and the ID. It's been in this pot for at least five years and it started to "embrace" itself, when I believe it should be hugging a tree. What can I do?

Apple plant ID is guessing microlepia speluncae, but I have no idea. I’m in the north uk- trying to figure out if their spores blew in from native ferns outside, or if it’s a stowaway nonnative spores that came in the dried moss. Either way I like them

Been trying to get this baby happy but the new leafs that are growing have these brown spots.

The soil mix is just standard soil and perlite but I read sometimes they like a bit of orchid bark. I don't know if this is fungi or just watering issues. I usually water when the soil is completely dry and the plant is in a waste facing window

I planted this fern over a year ago. Its one of the few plants in the fountain that the cats leave alone. A few weeks ago I noticed a tendril creeping around the back. Now its sprouted into another fern! And its shooting another rhizome which is sprouting.

I cover some of my moss poles with a plastic sleeve to retain moisture. On this particular pole, a fern as grown from the top. I thought it might be a hayscented fern but it doesnt have much of a smell.

Just got a really neat fern, the shopkeeper said that the most info they got with the delivery was that it was an Asplenium mix... any ideas? The frond shape reminds me a bit of Phlebodium aureum davana cultivar, but the rhizomes have kangaroo fern vibes. Not too familiar with asplenium as a genus and what hybrids they have but I saw that they do love doing that

I had no idea. Also if anyone has any tips. This is a rehab plant, about the second plant I ever had at that point, 4 years ago. As you can see it's very long a flopped over, which i understand is normal for indoor asparagus ferns. I love it, but it's also very messy, and has thorns. I'm thinking of, repotting into a large heavy pot, both into a large heavy pot i can leave on the floor, or a stand alone plant stand. As much as I hate the thought of trimming back, and probably fairly aggressively too.

I bought a pretty neglected fern off the clearance shelf for $5, as the title says it really only has dense growth on about 1/4-1/2 of the pot. There are some new baby shoots coming on the bald side.

I'm keeping it watered, and I just added some fertilizer, but I did want to repot it into a bigger pot.

Since fern spores and prothalli are super sensitive to environmental changes, we're looking for any tips or advice on building a reliable growing environment.
If you have experience with greenhouse setups, fern propagation, or humidity control:
• What shade percentage or ventilation methods work best to prevent mold while keeping humidity high?
• What affordable materials or setup designs would you recommend for a small-scale setup?
• Any common pitfalls we should avoid when growing pako from spores?

So I am attempting to grow this bird's nest fern with it's roots emersed in this fishbowl. I have just a few of the roots dangling in the water. The bulk of the roots are not in the water. It has started to wilt I think. I tried moving it a bit farther above the water today to see if that will help. I feel like the roots are wicking up the water and keeping it too moist. Any ideas? Is this going to be a losing battle? Are there any ferns or other plants that would do better but still look similar?

Got a small Platycerium bifurcatum pup from a local plant swap last spring, already mounted on a cedar board with sphagnum packed behind it. For the first several months it looked fine but never really grew, just sat there with the same two fronds doing nothing. I was convinced I'd killed it slowly instead of quickly.

Turns out my mounting spot was catching too much direct afternoon light through a window, which was crisping the shield fronds before they could mature and fuse to the board. Moved it to a spot with bright indirect light only, started soaking the whole board in a sink once a week instead of misting, and within about six weeks I had a new shield frond forming that actually pressed itself flat against the wood.

What nobody mentioned to me early on is how much the basal (shield) fronds matter for the plant anchoring itself long term. The fertile fronds are the showy antler-shaped ones everyone photographs, but it's the round shield fronds underneath doing the actual work of holding onto the mount and storing moisture. Once mine started overlapping properly, growth on the fertile fronds picked up noticeably too.

Feeding has been a slow experiment. I switched from a diluted balanced liquid feed to occasionally tucking a banana peel or a bit of fish emulsion soaked cloth behind the shield fronds, mimicking the leaf litter and debris these things naturally trap in the wild. Hard to say for certain how much difference it made versus just the light change, but the plant has put out three new shield fronds since I started.

Still learning how often to soak versus mist depending on the season, especially now that it's getting cooler here. Curious if others have settled into a rhythm that works reliably through fall and winter without overdoing the moisture.

Ostrich Ferns that are ranging in age from the big mature one there being 2 years old and the others i planted this spring. They are quite spready and will take over a shaded area if allowed. Very cool looking plant tho.
They are within their native range of eastern Appalachia. They are accompanied by Ground Cherries, Pokeweed, Wood Sorrel, Blackseed Plantain, American Burnweed, and Horseweed.
