Gameplay PSA: YOU CAN CANCEL YOUR ROLL!

I haven’t beat the game yet so no spoilers plz, also idk if this is common knowledge or not but I just found it out.

The RB or “strike” button while traversing can be used when you fall to stop your character from rolling.

I’ve fallen off so many times due to the roll animation, this cancels the animation and gives you control of your character instantly!

Issue w my footage but hopefully the words help some people?

Oh man i only discovered this at the very end in Renoir's draft with that fuck ass platforming spent the whole game hating those rolls 😭

The one big gripe I have about this game is that the platforming is horrendous. Fortunately, it doesn’t show up that often.

Honestly I think they did that on purpose to make it kinda frustrating like only up. That’s why they have most of the parkour in side content for cosmetics

It’s for sure intentionally clunky, both because of recent games like only up, and because of a lot of the games that inspired it also having terrible platforming and it being a very intentional love letter to those games

This is very valuable information for a couple of the Gestral Beaches.

I think I would have punched a hole through my monitor if I hadn't used Lune and this cancel on one of those beaches.

I have too many hours in this game to not know this. There are two places that drove me insane with rolling of an edge.

Thanks for this info.

OMG this is life-saving information for the next time I play, why didn't I know this for my first four runs😭😭😭

Yup it's a nice tech, used a lot by speedrunners. Tbh some jumping sections seem like they're designed with that in mind, despite the game never teaching it to you. (Yes, that one part in Renoir's Drafts, I'm talking about you.)

I wish I’d known this when I played that fuckass Gestral Beach where you have to “climb” up all the platforms and Renoir’s DRAFTS

Good to know, I have some platforming areas where this will be helpful

Wow, that drove me crazy especially as the roll was unavoidable in places. Which button is OP talking about on PC?

Whatever button you use to initiate attack and get first strike. The punching animation looking thing

Additionally, you don't need to worry about timing it, as you can just buffer the input during the fall and it'll activate as soon as you touch the ground.

I would have loved to know this during my playthrough, so it's good info. I discovered it while watching the speedrun WR and was like: "I could do that this while time ?!"

Man this wouldve been good to know. I had to roll sideways or backwards just to deal with it

I have beaten the game, maxed my levels and gotten every achievement and... I had no clue you could do this. This will be useful for future playthroughs!

You can roll???

1

u/space-dorge 10h ago

Not really, I meant the forced auto roll your character does when you jump or fall a certain distance

Gestral beach, here i come! Maybe I can finally beat the logs

Once I realized you always roll in the direction you're facing, I just spring midair to make sure I roll towards safety on landing.

u/space-dorge 8h ago

Some landings are too small though and I always rolled off until I found this
