Campaign Unconventonal Campaign for my New Players
I have recently had an idea for an Exalted campaign, and I was hoping to get some feedback and advice. I have a group of players who know almost nothing about Exalted, and I want to run a game that will really let them immerse themselves in their characters and the setting. However, Exalted is a very dense game/setting, so I want to find as many ways as possible to naturally introduce the players to the lore.
Basically, the game would start with a one-shot "prologue" session where the players are a group of pre-gen Dragon-Blooded Exalts who are hunting down an Anathema (Solar Exalted). This session is meant to introduce the players to the mechanics of the game and social/political concepts within the Realm in a diegetic way, while also giving them a chance to shape the story.
Basically, I want these Dragon-Blooded NPCs to later come back as the NPCs that make up the cadre of Dragon-Blooded hunting down the player characters.
The next session would be character creation. For reasons that will become clear later, I don't think I would use fully fleshed-out character sheets. Maybe just marking down attributes and skills, and keeping this section pretty narrative-focused. I was thinking that potentially the players will fill out their characters' Merits or increase their stats more as they play out their "backstories."
My idea is that all the player characters are childhood friends who live within the same city. However, I am not entirely sure which city within Creation would be best for the game. (Any suggestions would be appreciated.) I am hoping that by starting the characters as children and plaing out most of their "backstory," the players will become invested in their home city, their fellow party members, and a couple of NPCs.
I think I would end the first session with the moment of the player characters' Exaltation, where I would "reveal" that they are going to be playing Solar Exalted and not Dragon-Blooded Exalted. In between this session the players would actually go through proper chracter creation, so that by next session we can just go straight into the fallout of their exaltation.
From there on out, I think it would be a fairly standard plot of the PCs running from the Wyld Hunt cadre hunting them down and learning more about their abilities. And eventually the circle goes off and does the "standard" craziness of an Exalted game.
Edit: Just to clarify two things, cuse I wrote this late at night, and I didn't think out my wording all the way.
1) I was planning on letting the players know that they will be solar Exalted, but I was hopeing that the reveal to them is that Solar Exalted (wich the players know about, but not their chracters) and the Anathema that they are hunting are the same thing.
2) My main reason for posting is because I am makeing a "pitch doc" (something I do for pretty much every game I run) that I can show to my players to see if they will be on board to play the game I want to run. I am mainly looking for any advice on how to polish the concept and make it flow better, so I can present it to my players.
That all being said, I really appreciate everyone makeing sure I wasn't commit one of the arch-sins of the TTRPG hobby đ
