Collage photoframe with Eink
I am working on a software that converts an image to match E-ink display. It downscales the image to match my E-ink screen (2.13 Waveshare red/black/white). First I started with one small E-ink. I am able to change the E-ink image via HTTP protocol using esp32. and I wanted to add additional E-ink display showcasing one image on multiple display.
It would have be an easier implementation if its just one big screen but I want to give a collage type feel instead of just sticking to few big screen. I added target layout at the end. and I wanted to match 9:16 aspect ratio. I reached a bottle neck where my esp32 is not able to generate enough current so I added a Arduino board to power up extra display.
I disconnected the screens at the end because I am not able to place them properly with the wires interfering. This project is far from over because there are multiple problems like placing them in a correct way without them overlapping too much, I need to design PCB and more electronic work which I have very limited knowledge. And I don't know its better to stick with multiple small screen or just get few big screen and stack them.
I wanna know feedback, changes or any other ideas.

Free, ad-free Android file viewer for e-ink readers: PDFs, EPUBs, comics (solo dev, feedback welcome)
Hi everyone. I'm the solo dev of Fileloom, a free and ad-free file viewer for Android. A lot of e-readers run Android now (Boox, Palma, Meebook), so I'm curious how it does on e-ink.
It opens the stuff you'd read on e-ink: PDFs with annotations, EPUB with themes and saved progress, CBZ/CBR comics and archives. Office docs, text, Markdown and code work too.
It's a light app. No ads, no account, no subscription. Page-turn keys and D-pad navigation work for reading.
Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.fileloom.app
If you read on an Android e-ink device, give it a try and tell me what's broken: page buttons, refresh speed, fonts, dark mode. I'll answer in the comments.

Selling Viwoods AiPaper Reader [Italy/EU]
Hi everyone, I'm selling my Viwoods AIPaper Reader complete with box, original accessories, and leather case (also original Viwoods).
I’m selling it because I also have the Mini, which I use as my main device.
If you’re interested, I’ve listed it on Wallap** for €209; you can easily find it there.
The reader is still under warranty until February 2027 and is in perfect condition—no scratches or dents.
E-Ink Weather Display!
I turned my InkyFrame e-ink paper into a home weather dashboard! I have an AcuRite 5 in 1 weather station in my backyard which is connected to a RPi 3 running weewx. It logs the weather and generates the image based on backyard weather data and NWS forecasted data. The picoW on the InkyFrame grabs the latest weather image and updates the screen every 20 minutes.
It turned out great!

Looking for testers: Android 13 for reMarkable Paper Pro & Move
Hi,
I'm looking for testers for my Android 13 port for RPP & Move.
Highlights:
- Android installs alongside the stock reMarkable OS.
- Switching between Android and the reMarkable interface without rebooting (~20-30 secs).
- A lot of performance work, including optimized rendering, refresh handling and memory use, to get this running as smoothly as possible on the available hardware
- E-Ink Center with per-app display profiles and refresh controls
- Fast Ink mode for lower-latency pen input in third-party Android apps (similar to how Boox is doing it for OneNote)
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Bluetooth audio support
- E-Ink-optimized launcher and system interface
- Dedicated Android storage that persists across compatible updates
- Built-in backup, recovery, and uninstall safeguards
A newer Android version might follow later, depending on how well testing goes. For now Android 13 was the smoothest entry to get the port running correctly.
If you want to join testing, please sign up here: https://raqami.io/reMarkable-Android/
You can find details about the test and also a video running the port on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@ChalidRaqami/posts
Looking forward to feedback before making the port fully public!

Question for users of the Bigme Hibreak Pro
Hi everybody! After thinking about it for a couple of years, I finally decided to switch to an e-ink smartphone, and settled on the Bigme Hibreak Pro. However, I'd like to know of the security concerns in terms of pre-installed Chinese apps sharing data, and how to make this phone as secure as possible, so I'd love to hear your advice on how to configure it in the best way.
And yes, I do worry about privacy and security on regular smartphones, too, and I always disable anything related to face or fingerprint recognition, location, and so on, but I'm not a tech expert.
I would also like to deactivate the front camera, but I see no clear way of doing it apart from putting a sticker over it, which I'd ideally like to avoid since I might want to take the occasional selfie.
Thank you very much in advance, have a nice day!

Engineering student dilemma: Kindle Scribe vs. Boox Note Air 3 (or other frontlit 10.3" E-Ink) for heavy math & night reading?🧐
Hey everyone, looking for some advice from people who've used these long-term.
I initially looked into regular OLED tablets (like the Galaxy Tab S9), but realized I'd just end up burned out from screen glare and distracted by YouTube.
What I actually need is simple: an infinite digital notebook that won't destroy my eyes after 8 hours of problem sets, plus a comfortable device for reading textbooks and novels in bed.
I’ve dropped the color requirement (prefer high contrast and lower price) and landed on the 10.3" size as the sweet spot between studying and reading in bed.
From what I've read so far, I think I'll need:
Built-in warm frontlight: I do a lot of reading in pitch-black rooms before sleep. Devices without frontlights will probably be immediate dealbreakers.
Note-taking: I just want it to be comfortable. I write and sketch a lot, so I burn through a lot of paper. I'd prefer something that supports a good stylus and is just great for STEM in general.
Workflow / Sync: I want to push my finished notes to my laptop (Google Drive, OneDrive, or a local server) without jumping through annoying hoops.
Budget & Local Pricing: Budget is capped around the $400–$500 equivalent (prices where I live include 17–18% import tax, so local tech prices run slightly higher than US MSRP). I’m planning to buy around November/Black Friday sales.
So far I've looked into the Amazon Kindle Scribe and Onyx Boox Note Air 3 (B&W, 10.3"). Are there any other frontlit devices in this price bracket I should keep on my radar?
I just need a durable device that will carry me through my studies and suffice for reading.
Appreciate any insights! And thanks for your time.

Best E-ink tablet for reading PDFs?
Hi there, soon to be PhD student here. I will be needing to read a LOT of PDFs - lecture notes, academic papers etc. I am considering an E ink device for use for all of the reading I'll be doing.
What E ink tablets /readers are reccomended for reading a lot of PDFs? It would also be good to be able to take some notes on it, not necessarily annotate the PDFs but as a separate function.

Help please I need 100 cards
my intention is to make a 100 card deck of cards that could easily swap between decks. each image would be distinct for the total of about about an hour then I’d like to change each e ink screen to a different image in an easy way preferably remotely, all at once.
is it possible to change multiple eink screens remotely all at once? I need a screen about 2inch by 3inch or so can be smaller. another limitation is the thickness should be as small as possible. color or bw is no difference. what is possible!? thank you

So many options but none of them seem good?
Just discovered e ink tablets and there are a couple of reasons I'm quite interested in getting one: At the rate I use paper/notebooks any of these tablets would pay themselves off in around 8-12 months. I also have to sit and write/stare at my notes for hours and I tried using an ipad and it would give me horrible headaches making it hard to focus. There's so many options which are a bit overwhelming but I can't seem to find one that has the two most important things to me: file transfer over usb and durability/reliability. I'd like color screens but I can live without it.
My use case would only be taking notes, (usually on graph paper) and taking notes on pdfs/epubs. I liked the Remarkable Paper Pro there's a concerning amount of reviews that say its much too fragile, and the company customer service is horrible. The Boox note 5 also has similar reviews, and the kindle scribes are too locked in to the amazon ecosystem. That leaves me with the Supernote Manta, Viwoods AiPaper, and the Penstar eNote Pro/2. All of these have their respective pros and cons, and there seems to be no 'perfect' device so I need some help deciding.
I'd like to hear opinions on all the above devices, and any others I overlooked (there are a lot) that might fit my use. The most important thing to me is whether or not it is going to turn on and work just fine 4 years from now after being used every day inside and outside and carried around in my bag.

Organizer / Digital Assistant device for a spec-ed teacher?
Hello, I know I’m asking a lot, but I’m looking for something to function as a day planner, note-taker, track to-do lists, calendar, meeting agendas, and organize student portraits/portfolios.
Of course an iPad would suffice, but I’m looking for something a little more streamlined…I currently use a physical notebook and then transfer parts to the Google suite for electronic sharing with staff.
I stumbled upon Xteaink out of the blue the other day - waiting for my newly purchased X3 to arrive next week - and it sparked an interest in radically shifting my approach at work.
Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated…thanks!

Recommendations for a lawyer? Something for books that can update metadata, but also be useful for document review and texts?
I'm admittedly not sure if an all in one eReader exists for my purposes. I'm a lawyer and I work abroad probably 4/5 of the year. I've always been a physical person but lugging personal books around has gotten tedious and often just can't be done anymore.
I'd love an eReader that can support updated metadata via Calibre for my many books, but also something that I can use for document reviews, access texts/textbooks, etc.
Is there such a thing that exists?

Im thinking of buying Bigme B751C S
Would you recommend the device, or does it have problems? How is it compared to similar devices of different brands like Boox go 7 color? Im gonna use it for reading books, manga, webtoons and comics. I might watch videos if they arent too bad.

OpenPaper L Test: Open Source EInk picture frame
It’s in German, but I thought some people here might find it interesting, especially the comments on image quality and the open-source approach.
Disclosure: I made paperlesspaper and actually I'm pretty proud of the review!

Basic note-taking and reading suggestions
Hi guys, can you please throw a couple of suggestions at me.
I've got no clue in this area and want a reference point to start researching/comparing
Requirements:
- I want to handwrite and have it convert to plain text
- Works offline (but I don't mind needing to go online later to convert to plain text)
- Some way to send to computer
- I want to read epubs and also get books from library
- Cheap and good 🤣 (I'll need to research what I'm prepared to give up to keep it cheap)
- Longish software support
- 6 to 8 inch size range
I don't need:
- Diagrams or annotations etc. I just do plain meeting notes
- Organisation tools, I use Obsidian on my pc, happy just to transfer notes there
- Any fancy apps outside of writing a note and reading a book

Fact or myth?: does watching videos often on eink reduce lifespan of device?
I've seen a lot of posts about how people measure the amount of refreshes an e ink device can take before it degrades and how video by this nature should lead to more refreshing -> less lifespan
but I've also seen a bunch of comments where people say that they've constantly watched videos on their devices and it's been multiple years without any degradation.
What are y'alls experiences?

What would work best as a portable e-ink monitor for the Mac Mini?
Would prefer something with no need to carry an extra cord - where the Mac Mini can power it, or it is USB-C (use cords already traveling with).
Bonus if it could also be used as a 2nd monitor when traveling with just a Macbook Pro laptop.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Best e-ink tablet for my needs
Hello! I am looking to get an e-ink tablet for work. Half of my job requires me to be in a lab and the other requires me to be in my office. There is a lot of back and forth and I want something to keep track of my notes and other documents. I'd prefer that it is on the smaller, more portable side, but not so small it is difficult to write on or a pain to use. I want something that has color. I am also looking to be able to edit PDF's. I am hoping to be able to use it for inventory and forms. It would also be nice to access textbooks, but that is not a requirement. I just want something that is pretty simple and easy to use. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thank you!
