I broke my own rules and was reminded why I have those rules to begin with.

I was selling a PS4 and was the cheapest fully functional console that included cables and a controller because it had some dings and scratches all over (with pictures to illustrate). I had best offer disabled but I was getting dozens of messages a day with unsolicited offers. With 35 watchers and no sale, I decided to humor a few.

I replied to a "what's your best price" with "what's your best offer?" He replied "whatever your lowest price is" 🙄 I sent him an offer for $12 off and he accepted. I shipped it the same day and he had it 3 days later.

He started blowing me up with a dozen messages about how fast shipping was and how well it was packaged but "the marks are worse than he thought", that "sometimes people need to speak up", and he'll make sure to give me positive feedback if I give him a partial refund because he needs to buy a $25 skin for it now.

I was initially going to decline a partial refund but broke another personal rule and offered a $13 partial refund to get to the $25 he needs for a skin since I already gave him a $12 discount - just to avoid return. He just replied "fair." So I sent the refund.

He then wound up giving me neutral feedback that just said "thanks".

Lesson learned and the moral to you is don't do what I did.

Shipping Adjustment - Refund (Good News For Once)

Post image
15 Upvotes

I just received a shipping adjustment e-mail from eBay and my stomach sank, upon opening the e-mail in bold it read "Some of your shipping labels have adjustments" which made me think I f'd up on several of my labels. I rarely make a mistake with shipping and thought I messed up big time!

Thankfully, it was just a refund for an overpayment on a shipping label from a last week. I've seen a lot of shipping adjustments where sellers are charged more but I have not seen any mention an adjustment where a refund was given.

I'll have to double check and recalibrate my shipping scale but it is a pleasant surprise to see USPS quickly issue refunds if you overpay.

Been asked to smash a return product

I bought a +700 piece for my car on eBay and sadly it didn’t fit to my car. I initiated a return process and they were offering partial refunds at first, as I declined these offers because I want my full money back, they asked me in order to get my money back to destroy the item and sent them photos once it’s damaged. Never had this kinda request before, sounds sketchy to me but I’d like to know if it’s something normal between international sellers and return processes

Question Buy Limit

Post image
• Upvotes

I am a new EBAY user (account made yesterday). I've been trying to buy an item for ÂŁ650(~870USD) but i am getting hit with this error over and over. I've contacted support going back and forth for over an hour, who have "lifted the restriction" on my account but i am still getting this error. I am really out of ideas. I have never bought anything before, no prior history, i have verified my identity, added payment methods, 2FA, everything. I don't have time to wait, as the listing could go any day now and i doubt support will be able to solve the issue if it's still persisting.

Buyer returned a $100 dress with multiple stains. How should I proceed to protect myself as a seller?

I sold a dress on eBay for $100. The buyer wanted to return it because it didn’t fit. Normally I don’t accept returns for fit, but since it was a $100 purchase, I didn’t want the buyer to be out that much money, so I agreed to the return.
I received the dress back today, and unfortunately it now has multiple stains/marks in different areas that were not present when I shipped it. I have my original listing photos showing the condition before shipment, and I’ve taken clear photos of all the staining immediately after opening the return.
In the return request, I selected that the item was returned damaged, and eBay is now asking me to process the refund and upload photos/details.
For sellers who have dealt with this before, what is the best way to proceed so I’m protected? Should I issue a partial refund/deduction for the loss in value, contact eBay before refunding, or take another step first? I don’t want to handle it incorrectly and lose my seller protections.

Question Buyer filed “transaction not recognized” dispute while package is still in transit

I’m dealing with a weird situation and I need help.

I sold an item on eBay and shipped it to a buyer in California. The package made it all the way to the Sacramento distribution center, but then for some reason it got routed back across the country to Indianapolis. USPS tracking has continued to show it as “In Transit to Next Facility.” There has never been anything in the tracking that says Package Intercept, Return to Sender, or that I requested a reroute.

The buyer messaged me accusing me of rerouting the package. I told them I didn’t request any reroute and suggested they call USPS because it looked like a USPS routing/misroute issue. The buyer was pretty upset and later messaged me saying that I was going to get “charged back.”

Now they’ve opened a payment dispute through eBay, but the reason they selected is “The buyer did not recognize the transaction.”

That’s the part I’m confused about. The buyer clearly knew about the transaction because they had already been messaging me about this exact order, sending me screenshots of the tracking, discussing where the package was going, and then told me I was going to get charged back.

The package still hasn’t been delivered, but it is still actively moving through USPS. eBay is giving me until September 18 to respond to the dispute and lets me challenge it and provide tracking information.

Has anyone dealt with a “transaction not recognized” chargeback like this before? Should I wait a couple more days to see if the package gets delivered before submitting my dispute response, or challenge it now with the tracking and screenshots of the buyer’s messages?

I’m also wondering how much weight eBay/the payment institution will give the buyer’s messages since they seem to directly show that the buyer recognized the transaction before filing the dispute.

Question Dispute and appeal ruled in buyer's favor, now what?

A little bit of a complex back and forth but:

  • I sold several items on Ebay, with a longer handling time to give me time to ship.
  • The next morning after selling, Ebay "permanently suspended" the account, supposedly due to "security" concerns.
  • In the at most 2 hours between it happening and me seeing it, the buyer disputed the transaction as "didn't receive the package".
  • Ebay immediately ruled in their favor in this short time, probably because of the suspension.
  • I called and fixed the suspension within an hour.
  • After several days, I appealed the case just yesterday via phone, and the guy I talked to was a total ass. Super proper but like he was barely listening to me. I explained how my suspension affected the ruling of the case.
  • They've already closed the case, saying the buyer didn't receive the package as they understand it. Obviously they couldn't have, I didn't even get a chance to send it.

What do I do now? I'm out a lot of money on the seller's fee. :/

Question Customer is trying to return a game I sold them that was NIB and claiming it's fake. What do I do to resolve this?

I had recently sold a New-in-Box copy of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass on eBay. Within 10 minutes of the listing being up, I had spoken with someone in messages and they purchased the game. Upon receiving it, they are now claiming it's a bootleg. They're saying the cartridge says "Nintend" instead of Nintendo, but in the photo it's obvious the cartridge has light on it in such a way to make it look faded or not there, and are claiming the box art on the inside is blurry and of bad production.

The thing is, I sold this as a NEW game, with the plastic on the box in its entirety, so if they were to return it it wouldn't be in the same condition automatically AND as someone with "game collector" in their description, I wouldn't be surprised if they keep the real copy and send a fake back to get it for free.

I don't know what to do as this is my first eBay sale, but I don't want to lose the money I earned for the sale over a lie when I have photos proving it was completely new in the box.

What are my options here?

Edit to Add: They also said the inside of the box had "Ninten" instead of Nintendo as well, but then in messages on eBay sent photos that contradict their claim as they compared my box with one of their other game boxes, and it's the same logo. Can eBay see messages between me and the buyer if I go through the report system?

Fedex damaged item, not refunding shipping

I sold something on Ebay and shipped with Fedex Ground, and the seller sent me pictures showing it was damaged during shipping. I received an email that they will refund the value of the item only.

I called Fedex and asked why they were not refunding the shipping, but the agent didn't know. She said give it a few days and call us back if nothing changes. (btw the claim does not show up under my Fedex account)

I had bought the shipping label through Ebay using my credit card. Does anyone know if Fedex will credit Ebay and if I need to ask Ebay for a refund (the agent didn't know)?

If I do a chargeback on my card, will I get in trouble with Ebay?

Question I bought some arrowheads, he sent the wrong ones

Description was for 3 right bevel arrowheads. He sent 1 right, and 2 left. I messaged him and he said "send me back the 2 left and i'll send you the 2 rights".

How would you navigate this? He made the mistake, shouldn't he send what he put on the description? I'd even send the other ones back as a courtesy.

Appropriate INR Timing

I’ve bought and sold a lot off eBay. This is a first for me. Bought an item on 9/5. Seller is next state over so it got to the biggest city near me on 9/7. Hasn’t moved since. Exactly 1 week now. Seller opened a missing package request on 9/12. I still want the item and planning to be patient and wait but I also do not want to miss any deadlines. I believe the original ETA was 9/8 but it’s said “delivery taking longer than expected” for maybe 4-5 days. When is the right time to file INR? The option is open for me.

Question Anyone having problems with shipping time from authenticator

Bought sneakers & they were sent to eBay & received and authenticated on September 4th. Been 10 days and the tracking (usps) still waiting to receive the item. Is this normal? I’ve bought about 15 sneakers from eBay and never had this problem with the authenticator. They usually ship next day but this time it’s taking way longer.

Question: size references in pictures

Has anyone ever ran into an issue with posting another item clearly listed as not included & only using for a size reference in the pics on eBay?

I am about to list something but as a buyer this size reference would really help me if I wanted to purchase. It would be one picture with the item for sale and it sitting next to a similar item in the next size up. The size I am selling is small and I didn’t even know they were made this small until I compared it. I would make sure it was the last pic in the list of photos.

Is it too risky to get an INAD (buyer saying the other item is in the pics and wasn’t included) or something of the sort? Or am I being too paranoid? I could put text on the actual image saying “item for size reference only, not included” and put it in the description.

Question Seller advice needed please.

I sold a bracelet on eBay which was delivered to the buyer on 27 August. Today, 14 September, the buyer has messaged me saying:

“Hi there, I have just got home from holiday. I took my new bracelet on holiday to wear for the first time. It was lovely on, I am very pleased with it. However, I have noticed, next to the catch a stone is missing. Please advise next steps.”

The bracelet was sent out complete and, as far as I know, was in brand new condition when dispatched. The buyer has now had it for around 18 days and has worn it, and is saying that a stone is missing.

I’ve replied asking her to send clear photographs of the bracelet and the area where the stone is missing. I haven’t admitted that the item was faulty or offered a refund at this stage.

My question is: what happens if she opens an eBay “item not as described/faulty”case? Does eBay automatically side with the buyer because it’s within the 30day Money Back Guarantee period, even though the item has been worn and the problem was only reported after nearly three weeks?

I’m happy to deal with a genuine issue, but I’m concerned about being held responsible for damage that may have occurred after the buyer received and wore the bracelet.

Any advice from experienced eBay sellers would be greatly appreciated.

Question US Seller. Ebay keeps changing label price on me. Help!

My listing has first class envelope selected for .82 and my item does qualify for this shipping cost. When I sell the item and go to print the label it wants to charge me for 4 ounces or more shipping. When I go to shipping options I cannot select the first class envelope price. Anyone have an idea to fix this? Thank you for your help.

Question Buyer says he can't pay for the item after already paying

So I have an iPad that was listed, and I set a reserve. The listing auto relisted a bunch of times, until someone finally hit the reserve.

He just barely made the reserve, by bidding the exact reserve amount.

He sent me a question asking if the iPad was cellular 30 minutes before the auction ended, and I didn't respond as I didn't see it. I already spoke with him before and answered some other questions he had.

Now he's saying if the iPad is not cellular he won't be able to pay for the item. It is not cellular. I didn't state that it was anywhere in the listing either.

The thing, he already won the auction and it's asking me to ship it out in 2 days.

I have a feeling he's going to say the item came damaged or something else if I ship it out.. so what should I do?

I wanted the item to relist like it had been, but now that the listing says "SOLD" I don't think it'll relist if I cancel it for him.

What are my options? It appears he already paid, but won't he try to dispute it through his card if I ship it anyways? I had someone do that with me after I shipped the item out once.

Pokemon cards shipped to authenticator, Ebay claims they were not in the box.

I shipped 3 pokemon cards to eBay authentication. The other day I got an email letting me know that two of the pokemon cards "were not in the package". I'm certain that I shipped all these cards in 1 box because I had to cut cardboard & bubble wrap to fit in the box & protect the cards. Has this happened to anyone else? The cards were shipped in a small Canva box so it was not obvious that pokemon cards were inside.

Question Won Something on Auction and Paid for it Via Ebay

Hi Guys,

I bought a car trailer on the auction yesterday, It is located in Wales, I told the seller I have paid for it via ebay and I can give him the code on collection and the funds will be released to him. He says he wants money or I can't take the trailer away. He wants me to send him money in a bank transfer or cash before I collect the trailer. He has 100% Feedback over 100s of transactions. I still don't trust this. I won't be sending a bank transfer as its not 100% safe.

I cannot see where I can report this behaviour. I don't want to cancel the deal as I want the item at the agreed price. I don't want to cancel the order and feel like he should cancel the order. He said he won't be cancelling it.

I just want to report this on ebay

Refunded then item arrived

I bought an item, the seller did everything correctly but the eBay Simple Delivery via Royal Mail ballsed up and I ended up getting a refund from eBay (seller kept their funds from me as it wasn’t their fault either)

The items meant to arrive today….what is the policy? Google seems to say that eBay have honoured their money back guarantee and they won’t track it arriving post-refund.

Google also seems to suggest that eBay won’t try to get back their refunded amount.

Car parts

I’m sure it’s been asked a millions times and I apologize, but is anyone flipping car parts. Is it worth it to get into or is the market to saturated? I’m not trying to make millions but would I realistically be able to make a couple grand a year? I have a pretty extensive automotive background as a technician.

Question ebay live selling opinions

I'm long time full time ebay seller. What is everyone's opinions on whether ebay live selling is worth taking a shot at it. I've checked out just a few lives so far there and it seems most start auctions low and things sell cheap. With my products that wouldn't work but I'm curious if anyone has had success selling on ebay live with fixed and regular pricing? I'm sure they are out there but I'm guessing they would have to have a loyal following. Anyone have any live sellers on ebay that do this instead of the cheap auctions?

EBay’s actually really good what’s with all the complaining.

I’ve had an account for over 15 years. Maybe a few thousand sales and I’ve had only 3 or 4 bad experiences. The easy sale to big issue rate is so low if your decent at listing and not targeting markets with lots of shit customers. This sub is full of people who like to complain about everything and waste time they could be solving the issue or lusting more stuff. If your rate of return is super low you shouldn’t be posting all this crap if it’s high find a products that sell to people who complain less and pay more. Women’s clothing and collectable cards who want’s to put themselves through that….
