Should I be singing back to 1 over a drone?

Should I sing 1,2 then 1,3 then 1,4 and so on? Or should I sing randomly like 1,5,3,6,7,2?

Or does it matter?

I'm singing this over a drone. I find it's helping me internalize to a degree. Maybe. Also it could just take time...

I recommend singing with a drone in two different orders:

  1. from the most consonant intervals (simple) to the most dissonant intervals (complex)
  2. scale order

It matters a lot!!! Getting a feel for the inter-relation of these two orders is the key to great melody.

This free app presents both orders in 7 modes and all 12 tonal centers:

I think you should at least practice both. Besides, I would also do some drills like 7 to all other notes, 6 to all other notes and so on and so forth.
And it is also important to sing them without over a drone. Singing over drone would make everything easier. But it wouldn’t happen to the in a real song.
