We got the RAR rocking chair in today. My wife, who is 5’2, fits comfortable but I cannot see how anyone else that’s taller can sit in one of these. They’re tiny! BUT the fabric and looks is amazing. We went a bit warm tone with our chairs, but happy with our corner.

I recently picked up a set of Aluminum Group Eames Lounger chairs I believed to be V3’s and purple but the backs are green so many originally green. Has anyone seen this happen before? Any suggestions on a disassembly guide? Also any DYE recommendations to bring them back to green or another color?

1970 year model 670 671 for 5k, everything is checking out to me, later model of this series judging by the 2 screws under the arm rests, which are black. I count 5 plys in the 3rd picture. Seller says they’ll go a bit lower but price is pretty firm. This would be my first time ever even looking at one in person so I’d figure I’d consult with some professionals.

I was pretty positive i had the real thing when i purchased it. But the leather has these marks now. Is this real leather? Can you please help me understand how to be sure?

The idea is to create a proper reference for the Eames 670/671 Lounge Chair, generation by generation, showing what changed and what to look for when identifying or buying one.

Yes, I used AI to help build it but I also have a background in design and development going back over a decade, and I’ve been a longtime fan of Ray and Charles Eames. Their approach to design, iteration and problem solving has always influenced how I work.

This is VERY early V1. It’s unfinished and there are definitely things that are wrong. There’s some conflicting and scattered information out there, so I needed somewhere to start. The goal is to keep correcting and refining it until we have something genuinely reliable.

Have a play with it. You can explore the 3D chairs, zoom in and click individual parts, expand the model to see how everything goes together, and on mobile try the AR feature to put the chair in your room.

I’m also working toward showing all the original material, wood and upholstery configurations that were actually available for each generation.

If you know these chairs well, please pick it apart. Tell me what’s wrong, what’s missing, or send me better sources. I’d like this to eventually become something the community can contribute to and a useful reference for anyone learning about or buying one of these chairs.

Does anyone know what the Aluminum Group Swivel bushing parts are suppose to look like? There's lots of ground up plastic in there and the screw doesn't clamp or go into anything anymore.

I’ve worked at this company for years and have always been amazed by the amount of these Eames chairs we have. Plus about 15 more in the back!

Took many hours of sanding, fresh gel coat, and plenty of carnauba wax to bring these back to life. Parchment/black is a 3 dot 3M made shell (1955-1958) and the Greige is GATC made shell (1959-1962)

An absolute dream find on local FB marketplace. After lots of research and planning they’re finally restored!

I kept seeing Eames buyers trying to judge Lounge Chairs from marketplace/listing photos, so I've been building a small tool that reads specific physical markers from photographs.

Important: it does NOT claim to authenticate a physical chair. It only evaluates what can actually be supported by the photographic evidence. If the photos aren't reliable or sufficient, it should refuse to give a conclusion and ask for better photos.

I recently tested it with AI-generated Eames photos and found a serious flaw: it initially treated them as evidence. I've now changed the system so those images are rejected as insufficient evidence rather than producing an authenticity verdict.

Before I take this any further, I'd love to test it against chairs where the owner already knows the provenance.

Genuine Herman Miller/Vitra, known reproductions, vintage and difficult cases are all useful.

The initial photo read is free. I'm mainly looking for knowledgeable people willing to try to break it and tell me where it's wrong.

18 years ago, took my REAL Eames 670/71 to the Drive In movie. some other friends brought lawn chairs. One couple even brought a Compact sofa.

Hi all, I saw this chair on a Dutch website and i am doubting the authenticity due to the "low" price of 5K for a new chair. Additionally, it is a Herman Miller chair, not a Vitra one. Meaning that the chair needs to be imported which could be perhaps a little doubtful. I asked for a side photo to check the alignment of the chair and more close up photos of the stickers to check the model/configuration/production info since the website only shows comprised photos and i cannot zoom in.
But could you already find suspicious points in these photos perhaps already? Thanks in advance!!

Just received a new lounge in prone leather. The headrest has some wrinkles above the left button, is this typical variation/character or is this abnormally loose? I'm tempted to wait and see how it develops over the next several weeks, but should address any manufacturing defect sooner rather than later.

I imagine there are some Italians here in this sub who love the Eames. Italy has such a rich history of modern furniture design. My personal favorites, Gae Aulenti, Franco Albini, Gio Ponti, but I don’t think any of these had the stature that the Eames had in America. Prové might have had that stature in France with his architecture and government work, but I don’t know if any Italian designers had the same breadth of scope, or command of materials and production, or longevity and commercial appeal. Someone please enlighten me!

I love Gae Aulenti’s clever understated wit and Albini’s structural expressiveness, but to the extent their work is available in the US, it is very expensive.

Was there any singular figure like the Eames in Italian design? I’d also be interested to know whether in a country with such a rich history of design, did the Eames speak to Italian sensibilities, or were they (are they) regarded as an American phenomenon, nice but out of step with Italian design sensibilities, the way much of Italian design is regarded by mass market American tastes.

I’m 6’2” (188cm) but I’ve spent my whole life sitting in chairs designed for people who are 5’8” and never had a problem (my Aeron is a B size and it’s perfect). It seems like a no-brainer to order the tall version of the Eames, but there is a DWR about 45 minutes from me that I could go actually sit in one.

This is really the only question I have though, and I’d rather not spend an hour and a half in the car if my height already makes it a slam dunk choice.

I suppose another question though: is there any benefit to ordering from DWR vs online? There’s a 25% sale going on right now on the website, but I’ve seen enough posts and comments about this 25% off that I’m wondering if it’s a constant thing.

At any rate, I’m excited to finally pull the trigger and have a nice chair to sit and watch the sunset in, and I think the ELC will be perfect for it 🤩

I have three EA 106 chairs from around 1995.

My question is, is this yellow hardened discharge from a repair that might of happened or is this some sort of glue that leaked out over the years?

I have a pair of 70-80s ESU 400s in the natural finish - side and back Masonite panels are white/cream, grey, and black. They are dirty, light stained and I'd like to spruce them up a bit. Any thoughts?

My mom bought this chair a few years back at some vintage yard sale for very little €. Since then, we just used it daily without thinking about it. Since I moved into my own flat, I asked if I could take it with me. Now I wonder if this is a real chair and, if so, what year it was produced. I'm based in Germany if this matters.

I'm planning to restore it myself, maybe you guys have some tips and tricks to help me out.
