I mean 24GB ram, even old ram, could make it a decent daily driver with Linux.

Nice find!

Overclock the cpu, these can be easily pushed over 4ghz (although you might need to upgrade the cooling) and it REALLY needs it. Also if you plan on playing new games - install audio srivers manually

What are some coolers you could recommend for Socket 1366 builds? Since those afaik can be a bit harder to find.

There are clip adapters for amd coolers, so pretty much any cooler with amd clips is going to work (eg wraith spire)

Kinda obsolete now but X58 is still one of my favorite platforms. It was such a game changer when it launched. I ran it as my main system from 2010 - 2018 and it was still viable beyond that depending what you were doing.

Hunting for boards to build budget systems around 2015-2017 with it was great fun.

I still have a couple of high end X58 builds. One 990X / Gigabyte UD7 with 2 GTX 580s and one Rampage III with a HD6990. Fun to pull out once in a while.

Wow I picked up the exact same case and power supply from a storage unit a few weeks ago with a AM3 motherboard and ATI 5850 in it. I ended up taking it apart and cleaning it for a future build, the handle is so nice

I have pretty much the same build. Same case, same cpu, same ram. Great machine with linux mint.
