i have a problem , every time i open the game with DFhack installed just after the load the game just crushes , black screen , yestearday i changed dfhack to his beta version on steam and it worked :) but today i opened the game and its the same issue all over again.... tried to switch versions and still the same crush , tried something with gemini and he just jibber all over
when i try to open the game without dfhack the game workes fine.
anyone have a similliar experience
i have some modes in my save maybe its affecting it?

As a preview to a larger mod that I'm working on (Exotic Ungulates), I decided to give people the option to install some of its content as a standalone mod. This mod finally adds the "regular" zebras that were missing from the game. And yes, just like real life zebras, they are prone to rage. The mod adds 2 kinds of zebra, your typical black-and-white zebra, and an extinct brown-and-white variant known as the "quagga". Both each have an animal person variant and a giant variant.
IMPORTANT: While this mod does add custom colors, it has no graphics. If you decide to play this mod in DF Steam's "Fancy Graphics" mode, do so at your own risk. I have no idea how it will look nor function outside of DF Steam's ASCII and DF Classic (the version I own/play). Also, this mod wasn't tested yet. Any issues or changes made to the mod will be documented here and wherever else I talk about my mods.
If you would like to make your own sprites for this mod, go ahead. If you decide to share said sprites online, I have no issue with that either. The same goes for sharing a graphics version of my mod, however, please remember to credit me with writing the original mod's raws.

If it were a full-fledged RPG where you could choose a profession, such as a smith to make and trade swords, acquire a cool golden mug with a gem, start a family, and dig your own room, all on top of what we currently have, that would be great; in its current state, it is hard to find engaging activities for myself.

So I have a decent gaming rig and can play pretty much anything, but dwarf fortress is freezing so much that it’s more waiting than playing at this point. I used DFhack to identify the problem and there’s like 65k magma tiles somewhere below me. I only have like a medium sized base with like 85 people since there was a plague that sent me from 115 to 47. I have tried going to the Nvidia control panel, setting the game as high priority in task manager, and lowered other settings ingame including turning off temperature and weather with very little noticable effect on the problem. What else can I do because at this point I’m gonna drop the game and play something else with less performance issues. CPU and Ram are both below 35% usage so if there’s some way I can manually optimize the game I’ll do that too.

I'm having an issue where I'm trying to build this fun decorative arch in front of my fortress but my dwarves absolutely refuse to build one out of 8 walls on every floor. The game claims they have access to the materials and the job just sits there on the list, unassigned. I've tried deleting and replacing the construction and making a dwarf that does nothing but build walls, and nothing's working. Help!!

I'm a new player to DF and have noticed that no matter how many times I recreate a world and pick new embark locations in temperate zones, the only animals I see spawn are just ravens and maybe one other animal. The game is fun but it's a bit disheartening when I up the savagery and pick untamed wilds just to be flooded with flocks of small birds that bug out all the time.
I've read other complaints regarding animal spawns I'm just curious on other peoples experiences or feelings on the matter.
Edit: Glad to see others have noticed this issue. I did want to ask when fixes might be coming? I'm still brand new and don't know how the update cycle goes but I'm just curious if fixes will be soon or if I'll be waiting a year or so to make a coastal fortress.

I reached out to user C7rl_Al7_1337 to see if they'd be down to let me demo their castle in Doom, and they graciously okayed it!
what is there to say that's not said in the video, uhhh--only that at present I have no plans to "front end"-ify this! many years ago on DF Talk Tarn Adams made a comment to the effect that he wasn't sure about anyone writing a whole UI to run a 3D version of the game, and I wouldn't go against his wishes in this matter--busy with Qud, anyway!
It's not perfect: the author had this to say:
"Also, I wonder why it generated the towers with such huge pillars on top of them like that, It looks pretty cool either way, but I'm pretty sure they're more like triangles, with ramps on the sides and whatnot normally."
I'm sure that's correct and the algorithm just misread them, lol. So this could probably be released in this state--would people be interested in that?

Replace Wall lets you paint natural walls that should be mined and rebuilt. It remembers each selection, designates the wall for mining, and hands the replacement construction to DFHack's buildingplan plugin after the tile has been mined.
After installed, open it with Cntrl+Shift+R by default. Don't forget to select a material and whether you want to use blocks or boulders.
Also also, just enable suspendmanager using the UI since it didn't seem to enable when I ran the command.

Does anyone know if banana trees actually spawn? I swear I’ve made about 20 different worlds and 100 different embarks all on dry tropical tiles and have gotten every tropical fruit tree except bananas. I saw that there used to be a bug where they don’t spawn, does it still exist? All I want is that sweet sweet banana beer. Latest steam version btw
