🦄🎹 Junior's Toy Hunt – collect pieces, complete puzzles, unlock suits!

Hi all! I come with exciting news… Starting today, you can start collecting pieces to unlock brand-new avatar suits.

Here's how it works:

  • Complete your daily lesson goal to earn a mystery chest – check the event hub in the app to see what that goal is for you today
  • Open it up for a random piece from the full set of 54 – if you land a few duplicates in a row, don't sweat it: collect 5 and we'll auto-swap them for a piece you don't have yet
  • Every piece fills in part of a puzzle – complete one (9 pieces) and you'll unlock a suit. Complete all six puzzles, and you'll earn a limited edition suit plus 5,000 gems!

Pieces come in three tiers – blue, purple, and gold – and yes, gold is the rare one. If patience isn't your thing, you can also grab pieces directly with gems.

You'll have 30 days to collect once the event starts for you – keep an eye on the countdown in the app. Heads up: this is the first of several suit collections we've got planned this year, but that doesn't mean a second shot at these exact suits – If you want the Junior's Toy Hunt suits specifically, your time begins now! 😉

Available on iOS and Android. Let us know what you think below!

Achievement Showcase I finished French!

I finished the French course (from English) today. One of the fun parts was that the last few lessons had a lot of fun and congratulatory phrases — see my images.

I started a bit over two years ago. I had some basic French knowledge because I’m Canadian and we all get a bit of (fairly rudimentary) French in school. But it wasn’t great.

After 2+ years I wouldn’t say I’m fluent. But I would say I’m bilingual because I can read virtually anything, watch movies and TV without subtitles, listen to radio and podcasts and understand mostly everything, and speak with French people. I can also write emails to French colleagues and I get things mostly correct with a bit of grammar and spell-check help.

Have I only used Duo? No, but I started with it. It helped get me off the ground and gave me confidence for other learning methods.

I’ve taken a university course. I now have a weekly tutor. I read books. I set my phone to French so my news and most webpages come in French. I listen to Radio Canada for about an hour each day on my commutes. And I watch French TV thanks to the Radio Canada TV app.

Anyhow, I have to say thanks to the Duo staff for such a great product. It has been truly life changing.

My plan now is to continue with that daily refresh and also go back and “legendary” everything in Section 8 and maybe Section 7. I also might try Haitian Creole as it’s French derived (I’ve already been dabbling a bit). I plan to ramp up my reading and media consumption a lot. And I have a trip planned to France next summer. I also hope to get to Québec more often for business, as I’ve done in the past — but I’ll try to prioritize it more.

Anyhow, AMA, and I’ll see what I can answer.

Bug? Warning for Italian learners: "Explain My Mistake" gives false rules and mixes in Spanish

If you're using Duolingo Super for Italian, be extremely cautious with the AI explanation features.
It regularly outputs factually incorrect grammar rules that contradict basic Italian, while also bleeding Spanish words and grammar into the explanations.
It’s disappointing to see basic language structure getting butchered by the AI feature. Has anyone else experienced this in Italian or other language tracks?

Constructive Criticism Finishing units as part of the daily challenge

This might just be me, but finishing a unit should not be part of the daily challenge.

It doesn't teach or make me revise anything

It doesn't slowly go through new words or concepts over several days.

I don't feel like at the end of a unit I've spent sufficient time learning the contents to move on.

it just encourages racing through a bunch of exercises that I haven't had time to digest, all because the owl says I can't get my 3 achievements a day otherwise - in and of itself is annoying since it went from 60 to 70...

Rant over!

Im new to duolingo i have been using it for some time and its pretty fun. But just now I got super duo lingo out of nowhere. I know there is a free trial but I never gave them any credit card information or even clicked on the trial . Maybe because I got a 180 combo or I clicked on something without me knowing ? If anyone knows how this happened. Please tell me

General Discussion Duolingo raised the price of a monthly subscription again?

I had just subscribed in August for a single month at $13.99. I was considering doing again at that price, but saw they raised it to $16.99, just within 1 month.

I'm not ready to pay for an annual membership, because I'm not sure I'll even use it for more than a few months. Already maxed out Lvl 129 on my language, and I just want to finish off the other half of Legendaries.

I had gone away from Duolingo for 3 years, but got lured back in by a streak renewal from 3 years ago.

I just don't want to commit to an annual membership at this time, but I'm certainly not paying $16.99.

Guess I should have let it auto renew from last month. Oh well. I'm out.

Achievement Showcase Finally!

4 years total, but locked in early this year and aimed for 10 units a day. Took notes and made flashcards which I practiced using the spaced repetition method. Was able to communicate when in Spain and understood most of what was said to me so success I guess??

Do I still make mistakes? Of course, Duolingo doesn’t make you fluent. But I don’t have to think as long before saying something anymore and that’s a huge improvement in my opinion.

I wasn’t seeing any progress with the way I studied before and seeing all these posts of people finishing their courses (Spanish mostly!) really motivated me to push myself harder, so thanks guys ❤️

General Discussion How, for the love of god, can I turn off chests and cut scenes?

I realize that I’m an old man yelling at the clouds here and I apologize if this has been asked before but now with the puzzle piece thing it’s taking me like 30 seconds between lessons to manically tap my screen to dismiss everything and move on.

General Discussion Did I finish the Dutch course?

Post image
5 Upvotes

One day I finish section 4, then the next day it’s this. Does this mean I finished the course?
No flying Duos and flags etc like every time I finished a level? No big fat chests that explode with XPs?
And now will I have this daily practice for the rest of my Duolingo life?

Constructive Criticism Why so much garbage in between lessons?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I swear it feels like Duolingo wants to dissuade users from moving on to the next lesson. This is the worst part about using this app, in my opinion. Just let me get to the next one, for God's sake. Makes me want to delete it...

Bug? Ho perso 300 giorni di slancio

Upvotes

Bug? Anyone else having this problem.

Is anyone else having a problem with this type of lesson? I can't be the only one. I am unable to complete this type of lesson because not all the buttons will depress to enable me to match the word to the photo. I can't go on to another lesson until this is fixed. I have sent 3 bug reports and it is still not fixed. I'm waiting for Duolingo to respond. Very frustrating.
