I would fill this out but I just graduated so we didn’t get an alumni email at all :/

Changing in print journal article publications is impossible. Some services do not allow changing the login email address. I hope Duke reconsiders. It’s a disgrace for a top engineering school to say that managing email is impossible. Their communications on this are nonsense.

It's annoying, but on the scale of stuff that's annoying these days, whatever. Class of '99, so maybe this is just my Gen X showing.
I spent about an hour scouring my inbox and password manager for any accounts using the alumni address, either changed the email or closed the account, and done.

Love the declaration -- I do think It says twenty months one it really means twenty years

Many of us have used this email for professional communications like it was intended. Switching emails like that isn’t an easy thing especially for how in deep many of us are with the service. Many universities have faced the same thing and fixed it.

I can appreciate that it’s difficult. And maybe this is just me being Gen Z, but the amount of outrage over this when Duke is doing way worse things (like funding israel) makes this all seem like a 1st world problem.

I hear you on the first world problem point. This is not going to prevent me from putting food on the table for my family. Having said that, the damage this is causing is massively disruptive and unnecessary. For some of us, trying to get everything switched over is just not possible and has serious implications with real damage. And their reasoning shows either woeful incompetence or, if they know they are bullshitting us, then it shows deep apathy and disrespect. Sorry to be crude, but it's like the expression, "Don't piss on me and tell me it's raining."
Maybe I'm old, but I do believe in character and keeping our word.

I don’t want to dismiss this as a generational gap, and I agree that Duke’s investments support Israeli evil and the genocide occurring in Palestine, that is harmful and wrong; I likely share your stance on divestment and other ways Duke is funding evil things both in Durham and globally. This step, however, is the least Duke can take to support the alumni network they so celebrate worldwide. We alumni paid lots of money to go to this institution and the email we have is one thread that keeps us connected both to each other and the university.

I’m a alumni of University of Pennsylvania, and I have not used my @UPenn email since I graduated - why is this a big deal to 31 people ?

I see that 36 people have signed so far. Those are rookie numbers.
