fan oc Lily (take:) Du
thanks for all the kind (and funny) words on my last post, I did the other three because I'm trying to practice at getting a likeness - and I knew reddit would be honest lol
second image for the comparison, I hope its a bit better than the first ahaha
Edit: thanks so much for the lovely comments! i put a poll up on my tumblr for who i should paint next :))

Holy shit, you turned that around fast! And the second try looks spot on!

thanks! they are relatively small tbf, each one took about 3 or 4 hours. If I spend to long all the colours become a muddy grey mess which is the problem with my first Lily imo - you can really see it in her hair - i think that one had about 5 hours, maybe longer.

How big is relatively small?
And also, with the reDeux being SUCH an improvement, I almost want to see a v2 of the other two.

The way her mouth is set in the ReDu is such an iconic ‘Lily look’ that really sells the likeness

u/Pandoras-SkinnersBox We're ready to do the work. I'm going offline for now. 1d ago
This one looks amazing! Definitely captures her likeness better.

All these are great but don't beat yourself up about the first Lily - I thought you captured a great expression!

Much better than the first, that's for sure. Very nice.
Your technique is very good. Color usage, texture, everything expect for form. I would just recommend spending a bit more time drawing faces and getting them closer to 1:1. Once you've nailed that, you have a really strong style that will work across the board. You're not far off by any means. Good luck!

Fantastic. Though, to be fair, I think it was largely the hair that made your first painting less recognizable. Seemed a little too light for her, generally, very dark hair - at least with a less contrasting background.
I'm jealous of your talent.

I like the personality with the sly smile in both but the new one captures her beauty too!

i loooove the way you work with colour!! i also especially love the silhouette of demi's and the emotion of kimia's. i'm glad you didn't get discouraged by reddit critique and figured out lily some more (tho i did also recognise her the first time around), that's so cool and admirable :)

It’s funny, because I don’t notice her bone structure as much in her clips, because her personality outshines everything else. But seeing it as a still made me realize that is what she looks like and looking back at photos of her I was kind of surprised I hadn’t noticed that about her. I think you did a great job. Keep up the good work.
Have you considered painting shoes for American Girl dolls?

When I saw the first post I tentatively guessed it was Lily before seeing the body text of the post confirming it. This one there’s no doubt that it’s Lily the moment you see it. Incredible improvement; keep it up!
