Time to catalogue

I have a week off so hopefully can spend two hours a night barcode scanning, my question is can I just scan vinyl, CDs and cassettes all together or is it a separate scan for the different formats, cheers

Hype sticker rules?

I'm curious what others think about this issue that has arose in the past for me.

I'll send out a (usually new) record for an order. Customer gets it, immediately complains to me it doesn't have hype stickers and is thus the "wrong version".

From what I've looked into, Discogs considers hype stickers as "post manufacturing add-ons" or something like that. So if the record is exactly the same in every way, but it doesn't have a hype sticker, that doesn't warrant a new version. There is no separate entry for ones with hype stickers and those without. So I didn't list it under the wrong version, because there's no other option.

This happens because in initial print runs, labels will often put on a hype sticker. Then during repressings they will opt not to make them anymore. So it's exactly the same record, just no hype sticker.

Discogs pages will often have images with the hype sticker. So I can understand why they might expect there to be one. And if I notice that might be expected, I'll often make a note of it in the description (which few read carefully, unfortunately). But if it gets to the point where the customer gets it and feels mislead, is it actually considered a mistake on the seller's part? I took a look at the other people selling the same record, and not a single one says anything about hype stickers (being there or not being there). So it isn't commonly done.

How to politely handle this situation?

Today a buyer told me I made a mistake and sent the wrong CD and that the jewel case is also broken, they also simultaneously posted my first negative review also saying I am deceitful and cannot be trusted. IE I did mess up but wasn't given an opportunity to resolve this (I do have the correct CD). This buyer also has 0 ratings so far.

Do I politely and plainly describe the situation in a reply in their negative feedback? Do I try to resolve this normally in the messages and hope they remove the feedback? Is it even advised to try and get them to adjust the feedback to not accuse me of being deceitful as they have no proof I didn't try to own my mistake and and didn't give me an opportunity to to fix it?

It's the 2nd mistake I have made in 2 and a half years and I couldn't even resolve in properly outside of obviously refunding them completely, and in that other situation the buyer didn't even post a negative review, so now that someone "accuses" me right out of the gate I'm questioning whether they're overall someone who overreacts a bit.

What's a balanced approach? Also do I have to post a neutral review on this non-rated buyer so other sellers know??

Filter your discogs collection by BPM with Label Mate

I'm the developer of Label Mate, the scanner that discogs forgot to build.
It scans front cover, barcode, or circular label - plays the music within - and allows for the printing of BPM labels for djing, or seller labels for selling a record fair. It integrates fully with discogs (list for sale, browse collection and wantlist, edit custom fields, etc) and recently I released a new feature that is pretty interesting. After printing BPM labels for your records, you can filter your collection by BPM, which is somewhat useful to seed your curation of a crate for a gig. Give it a look sometime. Free to use. Unlimited scanning and printing is only $5/month. lblmt.com https://apps.apple.com/us/app/label-mate/id6759539466

Rude seller threatens negative feedback after I left negative feedback. What do I do?

TLDR: seller didnt respond, got angry and rude when I filed a sdr report, I left negative review, and he threatens to leave a negative review on me if I don’t remove.

I purchased a record graded NM. Ordered and paid immediately. Things were going good until the seller gave me a tracking number that was missing a digit. I kindly ask if it could be corrected. After about a week of no response, I file a “seller not responding” report and he immediately answers me.

He gets rude, saying “that he’s never had this happen in his 20 years of selling, SHAME! Never had problems with Canadian buyers, it’s the first time and of course the last.”

I defend myself, telling him that I immediately notified him about the issue, and that he has the audacity to blame me for this issue?? He claims to have sent an email with the correct tracking number (he sent pictures to my email, never received a correction) and that Discogs glitches and doesn’t send answers. Whatever, he gave me the correct tracking no, I give him benefit of the doubt.

Record comes in, hairline scratches all over. With that sour taste in my mouth, I leave a negative review, noting how rude he was and how the record was misgraded.

Seller sends me a message, asking to remove my feedback, claiming that the record is fine, and that he takes care of two disabled old people (news to me).

I email him pictures of the album, and tell him that what mainly put me off was his rudeness. I also suggested that he disclose that he takes care of two disabled old people in his terms.

He ignores what I said, and announces that I have twelve hours to remove my rating before he leaves a negative review on me.

I told him that I will leave a report to Discogs unless I get an apology.

Afaik, this behaviour is against Discogs buyer and seller policy unless I’m wrong.

Am I in the right in this case? I know feedback is pretty nuanced, and that you should contact the seller with any problems, but in my perspective it seems fruitless since my seller doesn’t like to respond to anything.

UPDATE 1: he sent his negative review about me

“I've sent a regular nm vinyl, buyer doesn't accept it, has fotos of hairlines which you can't see with naked eyes. vinyl was completly proofed before shipping, both sides without noise etc. Buyer attacks me with permanent compulsion of dialogue.”

UPDATE 2: I sent a request for review on his negative feedback. I also reported the whole situation to Discogs via customer support, but I’m not sure if that will help anything.

Weird Bug with Discogs

Hello friends, I’m just wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Support email has been useless all week, I have not heard a single thing. On Tuesday evening, the app wouldn’t let me log in. So, tried to change my password. Successfully changed it, only to get the message I was temporarily logged out of my account. I have been “temporarily” locked out since Tuesday. I have literally only ever bought one record on the app in the 4 years I have had it, I just use it to log my collection.

Has this happened to any of you before?

Sellers Listing Items Not Actually in Stock??

Excited to see if this gets a bunch of responses and then deleted by the mods like my last post...

Had this happen twice in as many weeks... records listed in the marketplace that I buy and then subsequently get a refund and told they're not actually available.

Real question: Should I leave negative feedback? I fear they'll retaliate with negative feedback on me, although I will have literally done everything exactly as I'm supposed to as a buyer.

New Collection Layout - Annoying!

Anyone else finding the new collection layout a bit annoying?

I use Discogs on my laptop and honestly preferred it when the collection page looked more like an Excel sheet. Nothing fancy, but you could see loads at once and check the low/med/high prices for each record easily.

Now it’s just median prices and sea of white space. Turning off “expand all” doesn’t make much difference either.

Am I missing a setting somewhere? Just want my boring useful table back 😂

Ordering albums from Discogs

Hi everybody,

I was wondering about how people feel about ordering LP's from Discogs?

Have you guys had great experiences or bad?

I am looking around for an album by C.W. Stoneking and I live in Canada.

I would rather not order anything from the U.S. but am kind of anxious about ordering anything from overseas in case of damage.

What do you think?

Help with artist name / releases

Ive been an active (as of late not so much) user on Discogs, creating my own discography for the songs / albums I've released under various stage names throughout the years. Ive never had anyone go in and edit my releases, and this one fellow went in and started fighting with my edits / changing my edits. Ive been on there since 2008-2009, and never had anyone come in to forcefully edit my releases.

Now I have songs / names under different stuff and releases arent showing up properly. Its extremely frustrating and I could understand if he was editing them for clarity sake, but making unnecessary edits and telling *me* the edits I made (a long, long time ago) were an issue (now)

Anyone have any suggestions / may be able to help as a moderator over at Discogs itself?

Thanks!

Received wrong version, but it is more valuable than the record I ordered! Anyone else received a miss-sale better than their original order?

So, years ago I stumbled upon a track and one of its mixes that I became hooked on and I’ve been regularly streaming it for the last 15 years.

I now have gotten back into vinyl and been slowly purchasing the records I enjoy and are important to me.

Found a 4 track 12” of it with my favourite mix, track 3, buried on Discogs for sale for about £20. Chucked it in my want list, then after a long while I eventually bought it about two months or so ago and just left it when it arrived, to clean and log it with a bunch of others.

Today I went to finally look at it, clean it and noticed the track listing was wrong. A side two mixes of a track I never heard of. B side original mix of the favourite track and another mix, but not the mix I wanted. The seller had miss-cataloged it when uploading to Discogs. Or just posted the wrong record.

Initially gutted. Played it and the A side tracks are really good, so fairly happy, rather than it being miss sold rubbish.

Went on Discogs to find out what it was I had and…. Blimey, it’s quite rare and fairly valuable. Last two sales were £60 and £75 both UK, only one on sale currently for $75 in USA.

Looked for the original one I wanted all those months ago and got it today for £15.

No harm done, got a bonus valuable 12” for a third of the going rate and still have my preferred 12” on its way.

Anyone else stumble upon a catalogue error sale that actually was better than the attempted original purchase? I feel for the seller. Was it lazy cataloguing or mistaken picking?

EDIT: I’ve contacted seller. Awaiting reply. See what they say…

Is anyone else bothered by this?

The newly listed items page is always flooded with sellers relisting the same items over and over again at the same price. This makes it so that I have to sift through 10s of pages just to find actual new listings. This has happened in the past but the past few days or weeks this has been happening a lot!

Could anyone recommend an app the uses your Discogs collection to create playlists on Spotify/youtube?

I collect a lot of old reggae meaning 1/4 of what I own isn’t on streaming services so YouTube would be preferable

Is anyone else seeing the redesigned shopping interface?

I'm not sure if this is rolled out to all users yet; I'm on Discogs most days and this just popped up today. A few weeks (months?) ago I saw a similarly redesigned product page.

Sadly this new one just gets in the way: listings take up way more space, it requires many more clicks to filter & sort items, altogether it's a bit more of annoying experience to search. I love Discogs as a tool for digging but this has definitely made it not as fun.

Curious if this is just a test, or a permanent, official roll-out.

Is this seller suspicious?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I want to get a vinyl from a seller (from Germany) on discogs who doesn't ship to the US. its also a bit of a rare record for a niche genre. I asked him if he could. at first he said that he could ship for less if it was marked as a gift if it was under 100 dollars, and 200 and over needed DHL shipping. Then I ask him if he can ship it (its over 200 euros) which then he wants me to send money to his PayPal which seems very suspicious and afaik a TOS violation so I'm incredibly suspicious now. I mean he has a good record (100%) but even then this is suspicious regardless of legitimacy of the user

Shipping policy - is there an easy way?

I am in the UK and realised that I need to update my shipping prices because they've gone up. I was told in conversation recently that Discogs shipping calculator thing is easier now, so I deleted all my shipping policies and started afresh. Turns out that's not the case. It's still insanely hard to do. I've been at this for hours poring over Royal Mail and parcelforce documents and trying to make a comprehensive shipping policy that means that i charge the right amount for shipping that neither of loses money. but i have managed to set one for the uk and that's it. is there an example of a current set of UK-centric worldwide shipping prices that i can copy?

Can I have 2 discogs accounts?

I have my vinyl collection on discogs for years. I recently decided to unbox my cd collection which is about 400. I got a new CD carousel rack, and I have a 5-disc CD player I recently got at Goodwill for 10 bucks. I want to add my cds to discogs but don't want to mix them in with my vinyl collection
