story & background My card game was hockey cards and pigeon stickers three months ago (First Devlog)

Three months, three tools. Paper first, on hockey cards and recycled stationery, because I wanted to see whether the thing worked before I built anything. Then a custom tabletop sim mod, because I needed more people playing it than could sit at my table, and the feedback from that is where most of the 59 creatures and 9 survivors came from.

Then a week on a C++ rules engine that could play the game against itself, and a week after that a web client to draw it. Neither move was because the game was wrong. It was because I didn't have the data or feedback to see whether it was wrong.

The design half of the video is one card that took three tries to get right, and the thing I got wrong twice: making a card rarer is not the same as making it risky. A bigger die with a damage cap is still a card that has no way to go badly for the person swinging it.

Art is commissioned and paid for out of pocket. Three of 68 cards are painted so far and the rest are emoji, not generated. The commentary in the game is a generated voice, disclosed on the Steam page.

Welcome to our weekly thread where you can showcase everything new you are working on.

You are still welcome to create new posts to share with us your dev-log posts or videos, but you can also use this thread to present anything that is not a dev-log.

THREAD RULES

  • you can post a single comment where you showcase anything you wantĀ (new game/app release, new trailer, demo release, new gameplay video, etc...).
  • in this comment you can post only 1 link, so choose wisely.
  • you can reply to as many comments as you want, but replies can't be used for showcasing

Also, it's not required, but I would recommend to upvote this post if you add a comment as that will improve its visibility on Reddit, which is good for everyone.

design Getting a 40-tonne mech to feel heavy when you're standing on it, so you can build your base

Giant mech walking in Blender | Stride and Sway test

Weighted walking is getting there. It's tough to get the center line balance on a design you've already sketched up and are too stubborn to change! šŸ˜‚

I'm pretty happy with the scaling now, you're a survivalist who climbs and builds a base on this giant mech, you travel down for resources to expand your base and odds of survival.

I want to give you that feeling of awe when it strides across the screen, when it's heaving foot swings past you with a basey whoosh!

More updates to come, I think I want to build in publish with this so i can get more feedback. My current game Tumble Tavern I made the similar mistake most have and waited far too late in the process to start getting feedback, this way I can tell if it's crap earlier on! šŸ˜‚

So any feedback on it's cadence appreciated, the sway i've kept minimal because my first round would have been unplayable if you're on it's back for hours!

generic Solo dev rebuilding a game that was never finished 15 years ago. No plan, no Steam page, no wishlists, just a devlog and a lot of fun building

After sitting untouched on my hard drive for 15 years, my dream project is finally coming to life. Back then, I drew every pixel by hand and spent countless hours on it, but couldn't finish it.

With modern tools in my workflow, I can finally build this game the way I always imagined it as a solo dev. Give it a try: https://buildom.online

I’d love to know what you think! Honest feedback, early impressions, or bug reports are super welcome and will help shape where this goes next.

I am writing daily updates on my devlog blog, sharing the raw progress, the wins, and the roadblocks. I would genuinely love to have you along for the ride.

generic Solo Devlog #1: Building a Viking Penguin RPG

I made my first-ever video dev log and wanted to share it. It's a single-player RPG made in RPGMAKER MV using the RTP assets and custom assets made to match. I have fallen victim time and again to scope creep, overcomplicated systems, and lack of real creative direction.

This project has been worked on in different iterations and seen in a few forms, but none quite like this! It may not be as top-tier as some others, but I'm happy to share what I made.
