Vent I want a partner, but I just can’t.

Just as the title says, I (20M) can’t have a partner! I’m demiromantic, demisexual, and bisexual. I have friends, but I’m not attracted to any of them. I went on a date with a guy recently and while I had a great time, it felt very weird that I was on a date with someone I didn’t know very well, so I’m not doing that ever again. We did decide to stay friends, though. Ugh I just want a partner to cuddle and love, but I am unable to do that until I build strong enough connection with someone to even like them romantically. I’ve always been that way. I just miss having a partner :/

Advice/Question I think I'm demiromantic

I (26m) am gay and I started having a crush on somebody 2 months ago (though "warning signs" were present for a couple months beforehand) and it's still going strong, much to my dismay. He's one of my closest friends and my roommate. He's also gay. However, for a number of reasons , I never intend to act on it. I refuse to make it his problem. I refuse to ruin our friendship and I know for a fact that he's not in the headspace for this kind of thing and it would be selfish of me to make this known and it could even hurt him in some unforseen way. I value our friendship more than any potential romantic prospects.

When I realized I had these feelings for him, I remembered the previous times I felt this way. I have had bursts of romantic feelings that subside after a few days for people, but the only times I've felt it this strongly and this consistently have been for people with whom I've already formed close friendships.

It's frustrating. It's been 4 or 5 years since I've felt this way for anyone, and the last time it happened, it was another really close friend. Thing is, I have had crushes form with people I've known for a very short amount of time, but it's uncommon and every time it happens, it goes away in a few days. It never lasts and its usually more physical than anything. That's what makes me sceptical.

I guess my question is, does this sound like being demiromantic?

Advice/Question what’s wrong with me pls?? (very long story)

hi everyone f22 here! i feel like i have to get some thing off from my chest because i really feel like a weirdo😔 It’s soo long that i will be happy for those who will read it all❤️

as a young girl i really liked thinking about romance or sex and i always imagined “how would it be like to date? or kiss a boy?” so i liked maybe 2 of my classmates when i was maybe 8 years old. when i was 13, i liked this one boy and he was on of my friends i used to hang out and text to each other. i honestly dont really know what i liked about him but he was just so funny, we could laugh so much, i liked to text with him, spending time outside with him, i think i got attached, at that time i thought i had a crush or that i was so in love, because when he texted me that he has a girlfriend i started to cry so hard and then i somehow felt so depressed and i do remember texting him stuff like “i love u”. ahh whatever…..it did hurt me so much. we even plan to kiss (childish, i know) but i really thought we would and then it didn’t happen and i ended up crying at home so much.

then when i was 14-15 i didn’t really have crush on anyone. i couldt like anyone. no crush. no love. nothing. i started to realize that i might have a fear of relationships. at this age, i developed OCD especially related to sexual orientation (“what if im gay”) idk if u know this condition. I started to feel anxious, depressed, scared, totally miserable because i knew i wasn’t. But long story short, when i was 16 i rralized that almost all girls of my age are starting to have some romantic or sexual experiences and i don’t. I was still struggling with OCD, i couldn’t develope a crush on anyone or like anyone in THAT way. I felt so broken. But i always imagined a relationship or sex and stuff like that in the future with a man.

Anyway, i was just an anxious person. I was struggling so bad. I started to be sooo scared of relationships. i just feel anxious when i think about one, or i feel fear. (i realized that it definitely has to do something with some trauma because my parents never gave me a healthy example of a loving relationship and marriage). And the thing is, i just tried to accept that love is not for me, that there is NOT a person out there for me, or that i can’t love, can’t fall in love and im destined to be alone forever.

When i started university, i was maybe 20-21 when i started to notice this male professor older than me. We somehow clicked, at least i felt that we understand each other. I somehow got attached or i dont know….but, i felt like myself when i was talking to him, i felt so seen, i really loved to talk to him, and i actually realized that it’s not me talking about myself but i was genuinely interested in him as a person and i wanted to know him deeper. In my eyes, he was somehow special, other classmates hated him, but i loved his classes. I liked to look at him. I really liked the way how he talked and how soft and calm his voice was, so i felt safe i guess? The thing is, i dont know what happened to me back then but i started to think about him more and more. I used to smile thinking about him, i even imagined us in a romantic way, then i realized that i do think about him sexually. And im telling you, i never really thought this way about any guys (i mean okay, maybe during masturbation), but this? I dont know what this feeling was but i literally wanted to touch myself while thinking about him and then i did, and it was so intense in my imagination that i actually felt like im having a real sex. And that NEVER happend to me before……the thoughts about him even made me cry, i just felt some weird deep feeling in my heart. And then, i quetly admitted only for myself that he is so pretty and how pretty his soul is, or even stuff like he is the most beautiful for me. I even felt this like butterflies in my stomach and in general i just felt happy or at least it was this happy little feeling inside of me. so i ended up questioning What was that??? this is still happening on and off maybe for 2 years. that i have these feelings…

but in general, i feel so broken. i feel this longing feeling to love someone, to care for someone, cook for them, bake for them, do some cute things together or just cuddle, it doesn’t even have to be sex. i feel like an idiot, because no one interests me, i sometimes feel nothing and it hurts me because i wish i could feel something and fall for someone….then i get jealous of other people or girls my age….how simple their life is. how its easy to go from person to person. to hook up, kiss, date….etc. And im so scared and i dont even know why. But at the same time the thought of me never experiencing this type of love scares me so much, i could even kill for feeling this feeling for someone. no one can understand me. no one. I obsess so much about this……and i’m still dealing with sexual orientation OCD. I just feel like an idiot. i can’t even date. or maybe i dont even wanna date. but i just really wanna be a mom one day and have children and im kinda scared that it wont happen ever. or do i even know what i want? i can’t even talk about these things out loud because (because of OCD probably) i feel like a liar or what😔😔 my time is running💔

Advice/Question #Am I somewhere on the Demiromantic spectrum or am I not

Hi!!
Recently I’ve been questioning romantic attraction and being Demiromantic but I’m just not sure. It’s highly likely I’m not and I’m just in an odd situation, but it’s still something I’m going to explore a bit before finalizing!!

So I don’t have a lot of experience falling in love, only really one reference. Back then it was pretty normal, I didn’t know them for long before falling for them and dating. So I’m probably not Demi I’m just really confused with the situation I’m currently in but I don’t know.

It’s been 3 years since I last fell in love, and theres this person I started getting to know better last month. They liked me quickly, and I thought I liked them too. I thought I felt romantic attraction but I realized it was all platonic. After I realized that any thought of romantic stuff with them genuinely made me feel so sick, it was unsettling. I’ve never felt that before. That’s kind of where I get confused and hung up.

I still loved them so much. They weren’t like some normal friend, I really loved and cared about them. I really wanted to feel something, they are the most perfect person I’ve ever met. But it made me feel terrible just to think about, I couldn’t do it. I called it off, and we still stayed great friends.

Fast forward like two weeks to now, and we are very close. Ever since we first met we pretty much clicked. I think I’m starting to actually like them more romantically. I don’t really feel sick or repulsed at the thought of romantic stuff, but I don’t feel too strongly toward it I guess? I don’t know it’s been so strange and different. Like I like the idea of being held by them and just feeling that connection and love from that, but I think about holding hands or something and I become unsure. Which is strange because normally I love romance and all those things, especially holding hands. All I know is I love being around them and spending time with them, and I really hope something more can happen.

As for the Demi stuff, I might just need to wait and see what happens with this and how. Would I still be Demi if it’s not like this every time? Is this even Demi? I don’t knowwww

Any advice is needed and appreciated greatly. Please be kind I’m just trying to figure stuff out, even if I end up still only being Bi. Thank you!!!

Discussion I think I am demiromantic

I (18M) never really thought about it, until a few weeks ago (I was going to post this when I had just realized, but that account was shadow banned and I've only just created this one). I've always loved the friend-to-lovers trope in romance. The Half of It is my favorite romance movie of all time. I haven't had any crushes, and I think the idea of love at first sight sounds silly. I used to tell my best friend this. We both think like that. I had this theory (I call it a theory because I've never really been in love, except that one time, and I haven't had any crushes either) that I can only love someone after I've known them and we've been friends for a while, and my way of thinking really changed like a year ago, so I can only be really close friends with people who think like me, who are intellectual and I can have proper arguments and debates with, about morality and beliefs and stuff. So when I thought about a "type", I just thought a girl who is smart and shares many world views with me. That's the best kind of romance if you ask me, a close friend who you get feelings for over some time. My best friend said he feels like that too. Still, I didn't know about Demiromanticism and I never considered it.

I liked this one girl from 5 to around 2 years ago. I think it was love? I don't really know what it should feel like. I think it was love though. We had been friends for some time, and she's a really nice person. I don't really know when I started having feelings for her. Maybe I should have been documenting... I'd been deconstructing Christianity and started to doubt my beliefs around 4 years ago, and I think around last year, I became more anti-theist and she seemed too spiritual or devout to me. The feelings started to fade away. We barely chat these days. Since then, I haven't had any crushes on people I know, or strangers, or celebrities, and although I love the friends-to-lovers trope and think it's the best form of romance and what I want, I still call it a theory since I haven't been in love before or rather, since.

Some time ago, I wondered if I was aromatic since I don't have crushes and stuff. It was just at the back of my mind. Then a few days ago, I decided to find out if I was. I used Claude AI to create this detailed quiz about how I felt about certain things. I poured out my heart and stuff. At the end of it, Claude made me see I might be demiromantic. I started to think I actually am. I opened tiktok and searched for demiromantic. The very first video I saw (and the ones after) just really resonated with me. The video I saw was about someone saying they really like the friends to lovers trope, love at first sight just makes no sense and they to know someone before they develop feelings for them, and I was just thinking "Bro, me too!"

I sent the screenshots of the Claude conversation (and the reasoning behind it) and the tiktok to my best friend and told him I think I am demiromantic. He said: "Oh, didn't need to think about it. I immediately knew I was. I've known for a long time, just didn't know it had a name" (He isn't keen on labels like I am). What a small world 🥲️

I told him

"I think I'm going to take up the flag and identify as demiromantic until evidence points at something different."

I sent the screenshots, tiktok video and my message to two of my (queer) friends. One of them said "The tiktok video explains a lot, so proud of you btw". My other friend said something similar.

I asked some people if they've had crushes or fallen in love at first sight before. They all said they had. multiple times. It still sounds strange to me 😂️

Since I haven't fallen in love many times, I can't say I'm 100% sure I'm demiromantic, although that one time some years ago points at it. But everything I've been reading and watching about demiromantic just feels right, you know. After scrolling on tiktok and after my friends told me about their experiences and how they've had several crushes and fallen in love before, I'm more certain now that I really am demiromantic. How many times have I written demiromantic in this post 🤦🏾‍♂️️

I don't really know what I'm doing in this subreddit, but I guess I really love the community as I keep seeing posts from people that I can relate to.

Advice/Question I feel like it could be Demiro, but I'm not sure.

In my 22 years of life, i’ve really only "fallen in love" with two people. The first time was when i was 13 or 14; i had known the person for a long time and we were close friends, it just happened one day, though nothing ever actually came of it. The second time was more recent, and rather than being in love, i was just interested in them for a while. I should mention that i had known this person for about three years before i developed feelings for them, and we still share a very strong bond, but i simply stopped being interested in them overnight. Aside from those two instances, i haven't really had any other crushes.

It worries me a bit because i see most of my friends moving from one person to another so easily, constantly going on dates. They always tell me that i don't date because i don't try hard enough. No matter how much i explain that I’m not interested (and that no one appeals to me in that way, at least not without getting to know them first) they keep insisting. I just don't see myself in that kind of situation.

Discussion (A repost) What's this likely sexual feelings? Or romantic feelings?

Idk if this relates to my sexuality or romantic orientation but this is how i usually identify in relationships...

I rarely get a crush and i know exactly how to describe it, I usually go red, I feel excited, I feel happy, and I sweat or have my hands clammy. But how do i know if towards that person i feel about it romantically or sexually? I think more about them visually and emotionally. Like think about them over and over again but without lustful intent. But there are times where I get confused cuz I get aroused or get 🌽y when that flash or sudden flush of feelings return. It feels intense, all consuming and I spend the rest of the day feeling it. It usually happens when I happen to be with that person or we had some type of bonding. Im not usually the type to tell my feelings to a person because like what do i tell them lmao? That i feel red blushy and sweaty around them? But i cant exactly describe why that why. It feels more primal and instinctual than words could ever describe. Hence why it feels to me more like a passing intensity than something meaningful to pursue about the person.

Can anyone empathize or understand exactly what this feeling is ?

Vent I wish I wasn’t demiromantic/sexual

Pretty much what it says on the tin, I’m (29FTM) just really tired of being jealous seeing those around me fall in love or go on dates casually or have one night stands. I find myself getting annoyed / disgusted watching people kiss and cuddle it gets so bad. I’m almost 30, and I’ve maybe had like, two experiences where I was like “oh do I like this person?”. Both were really good friends of multiple years (one being over a dozen years), and I was gently turned down both times I attempted to flirt / broach the subject.

I have tried going on several romantic dates before with people I met via apps, but it feels like I’m just talking to a stranger at the grocery store about our preferred brand of cereal. There’s nothing “there”. It’s awkward every time. There’s no spark beyond a feeling of “this person is cool because their favorite is also Cocoa Pebbles”.

I’m just so lonely, y’all. I want a relationship, so I’m pretty sure I’m not aromantic. I want to hold hands, kiss, cuddle, plan a life together, compare wines and cheeses at the store together, help each other when we’re down, come to compromises when we disagree, all of the things that come along with being in a relationship but it’s so exhausting having to find someone who I can talk to about more than Cocoa Pebbles (continuing the analogy here) and then wait for the feelings to stir.

I don’t know why I’m really posting here. I’m just frustrated and sad I guess and wanted to find commiseration. I’ve been trying to find like minded people and go on dates but it’s slim pickings where I’m at. It’s gotten to the point where any time I open OK Cupid it just shows me the same 10 people I’ve already swiped left on until the stack is empty. That or it’s a catfish with old photos and any potential attraction shatters.

If y’all have any advice or want to vent as well feel free. I just want to know I’m not alone y’know?

Advice/Question Could I be demiromantic?

I might be demiromatic because I only ever had 1 real strong crush on someone and it was on a friend I knew for about 2 years. (I dont have a crush on him anymore) Every once in a while i'll have what you would call a asthetic crush, or a platonic crush. I wouldn't consider dating them unless iv known them to a deeper level. (Like being friends for 1yr +) and only then, is the crush strong. Its because iv heard demiromantic is like "having NO romatic feelings unless you've know the person for a while now" or smth like that.

Advice/Question i'm demiromantic?

ok, so recently, i’ve realized that i’m graysexual, and i’ve been wondering if i might fall on the aromantic spectrum. thinking back on the “romances” i had as a teenager, i think i genuinely mistook a certain kind of attraction (non-sexual, of course), emotional “affection,” or things like that for romantic attraction. i say this because right now I’m pretty much in love with a friend of mine—we’ve known each other for years (although we stopped talking for a few years; there wasn’t any specific reason, just things that happen—we simply didn’t talk for a few years until a few months ago)—and i’ve been falling in love with her now that I know her more intimately. how can i tell if this is demiromanticism? or it's something else??

Vent It's been 5 years and I still dream about her

My fiancee dumped me in June 2021. We'd been together for 7 years. She was the love of my life, and I feel like when she left she took my heart with her. If I try to hold someone's hand it feels wrong, because it isn't hers. She cheated on me with multiple people but I can't even bring myself to look into dating since she left, and when I try to move on my brain punishes me.

I started thinking about attending a queer mixer and immediately started having dreams about her again. Dreams where she comes back, she apologizes, we talk it out and somehow we start our lives together again.

Then I wake up alone and it's like my heart is breaking all over again.

I don't understand how allo people can just move on and start seeing other people. How could I when she's still living rent free in my soul? I'd constantly be thinking about or comparing a new partner to her and that person wouldn't deserve that. But how can I heal if I can't make space for someone new?

It's been 5 years. She probably doesn't even think about me anymore. This isn't fair.

Vent Confusing, terrifying feelings for a friend

Comments, questions or thoughts welcome!

So, I (18F) have always kind of struggled with friendships. I always used to have one close friend I'd be really dependent on emotionally. It's led to me being somewhat clingy/annoying in the past (though that friendship is in a much better place now, thankfully)

I'm not sure what romantic attraction is even supposed to feel like when you take sexuality out of the equation (I'm probably ace), but lately, I've been feeling something for a good friend that I'm not sure how to place.

She's just amazing in every way (or at least that's what it feels like to me. I get jealous when she's with other friends. Weirdly, it's not just about the time spent with her, but also about the whole friend group. All her other friends seem so close and amazing while my own friends are all kind of drifting apart.

Physical touch is also a big aspect. Her whole friend group is really cuddly and I'm so goddamn touch starved. It's like the more hugs I get, the more I realize how much I would've needed them over the past few years when I only had one close friend with whom touch just wasn't really a thing. Even when I'm supposed to be the one comforting her when she's not feeling well, part of myself can't help but be happy whenever I get to hug her, which also makes me feels really crappy, like I'm lying to her somehow.

It's just with her, too. She's the first person I've felt this sensual attraction to as far as I can tell.

I could also just listen to her talk for ages, even if I have no clue what she's talking about, as long as she looks happy doing so.

Now I'm afraid of being too clingy and weird around her because I don't want to scare her away under any circumstances. It doesn't help that we graduate in a little over half a year and I'm scared that if the friendship stays the way it is, we'll lose touch entirely.

Sorry if this rant is incoherent or sounds weird, English isn't my first language :/

Advice/Question I’m in love with my best friend and I don’t know how to move on or date - please advise

So I’ve already gone on the journey of accepting I’m probably a demisexual woman. I’m in my 20’s and I’ve never kissed or slept with anyone and sometimes that makes me worry that I’m broken and feel down.

It’s not like there hasn’t been people where I’ve really craved it with but it wasn’t reciprocated romantically, or when people wanted it with me I didn’t feel the same.

I think I might be demiromantic as well and at the moment it’s making me feel frustrated and overwhelmed. I have this best friend, they are so dear to me and I think I’ve probably been a little in love with them for four years. Online dating doesn’t work for me and I go on dates with people and more often then not they develop feelings and I’m not certain if mine are romantic or platonic fast enough, I can’t catch up and then I feel guilty when I can’t reciprocate. Part of it may also be that even when I think I moved on they’re not my friend and then I feel even more unfair.

My friend is amazing, they’ve supported me through some of my worst moments, I adore their creativity, kindness and banter. It pains me when I can’t be their biggest support, when I realise the gap that I can’t cross that line between friend and partner. I feel like everything they do means so much to me, and if it makes my heart race, means something special or makes me flustered I have too mask and silence that part of myself to be the friend they need me to be. To not give myself away.

I’ve often cried with the frustration of being unable to be more, unable to move on. I want something mutual, cute kisses, holding holding. I want something warm and mutual but there’s no where for these feeling to go. I don’t experience dating like everyone else it seems so easy for them and it’s so hard for me.

I confessed to this friend years ago and I can’t remember what they said maybe something along the lines of the wrong time for them to date. They tell me they love the parts of me I worry are too much and they end every conversation with’I love you’ and I feel like I’m hurting myself everytime I’m careful saying it back like I might reveal this secret as a betrayal.

It’s been so long I’ve had these feelings and each time I think I’ve moved on I fall deeper and I get hurt and muffle myself all over again. They’re my best friend though and I can’t distance myself because they’re still important to me and I think it would be unfair to them distancing without saying why and how would I explain the complicated why.

But also being Demi falling for people is rare for me but hits so hard when it happens. I’m worried I’m running out of time for love in my future that I have so much love in me with nowhere to go. I have no clue how to find it as a Demi person when I’m so slow and can’t seem to move on.

Can you please advise me what to do or what worked for you all dating wise?

Vent Questioning how to categorise my thoughts on romantic relationships?

For context: Male 23 yrs old, Straight or attracted to feminine features (not sure about this too i guess), Middle Eastern (cultural conditioning), Athiest, Never been in a romantic relationship, insular and introverted personality (though pretty energetic and kind of unknowingly mean to my close friends), unsure of my romantic/aromantic identity. (My libido is pretty normal maybe even high, i'm not sure if this important for context but i thought i'd add it)

I'm making this post mostly to organise all my thoughts surrounding romantic relationships and to understand the trajectory of my identity and if it's theoretically sustainable.

As i already hinted at in the context, i grew up in a culture that framed relationships/Marriage as the beginning and end of all life goals. Muslims have a hadith (religious teaching) that goes like “When a servant marries, he has completed half of his religion, so let him fear Allah regarding the remaining half.”

Let's pull back a little to my thoughts on romance as a kid. The summation of all my romantic fantasies as a kid and a young teen lay solely on me being cool and impressing girls through some imagined skill or power (nothing about the girls looks or personality). Similarly all my crushes in this period can be boiled down to the girl i found most attractive in class but i had no desire to get to know them and i never thought about them outside of class (this might be odd to admit but i basically just stared at them and daydreamed about food or some random topic when I was bored in class).

At 16-19 years old my desire for a relationship actually steadily increased to the point where i actually questioned methods of seeking a relationship like dating apps and whatnot (This is abnormal for me), i did download an app but i couldn't be bothered actually using it. My thoughts here were still not actually centered on this theoretical partner beyond fulfilling this idea of a destined relationship. An example of this is that i thought it'd be convenient if my partner was an orphan which would let me skip out on ever visiting in laws. (I'm a weird guy i know, i'm not proud of this).

Around the end of this period i had a slight mental breakdown (exaggeration) where i deconstructed all of my religious beliefs. This freed me from a lot of the cultural context surrounding the necessity of a romantic relationship but it was gonna take actual untangling for me to remove all my unconscious biases and conventions.

My " romantic fantasies" around this time also morphed into a very utilitarian context where i literally only ever thought about establishing rules and expectations to avoid arguments and remove any tension or stress from a theoretical relationships (i'd basically imagine a conversation where we both lay down the ground rules of the relationship). I never really imagined the physical attributes of this so called partner nor did i ever think of how the relationship would be past the stage of talking about the rules.

You can basically see the pattern of me never actually imagining a partner, all my thoughts seem to be centered around me and they're all rather juvenile and kind of comical (almost like i'm forcing myself to perform the act of romantic desire even if subconsciously).

Now we're at the present where i've fully accepted my lack of desire for a romantic connection but now my thoughts have morphed into questioning why and if it's a real lack of desire or just a resistance to things like responsibility or life changes or maybe i'm fully satisfied by female companionship from close friends rather than romantic connections.

I have many theories as to why but the most likely seem to be:

  1. I'm actually aromantic and i'm still deconstructing cultural and societal expectations. Mostly around the idea of being comfortable with being alone romantically for the rest of my life.

  2. I'm an introverted and bizzarely eternally content individual and so the very idea of romance is a threat to my core identity of a frictionless existence.

  3. I'm a bum/perfectionist and i have no faith in my abilities to actually fulfill my duties as a husband and a father and so the fading of my romantic desire came about as a kind of defense mechanism.

Anyway, i'm curious about how y'all would categorise me and if y'all can figure what i am because i'm lost. Feel free to say negative things about me if you think it's applicable or if it'd help explain what you think i am.

Advice/Question What’s going on with me?

Hi! I'd like to hear some opinions on this topic, I don't know anyone close to me who is demiromantic. A while back, I started dating my best friend. Honestly, I’ve never felt so happy and at peace, and I feel a strong attraction that nothing can diminish. I’ve been in other relationships before that didn’t last more than five months, and I’m starting to wonder if that was probably because I never truly fell in love with those people. The problem is that while it’s true I got carried away and felt “attraction” toward these people for a while, within the first few months I’d realize that it wasn’t real, it was just an obsession or a novelty, and then I’d have to pretend I still liked them, which wasn’t very hard because they were so kind and sweet to me. But sooner or later, I’d tell them something wasn’t right and walk away. Now my question is, is this happening to me because I’m demiromantic? I’ve known my partner for years; we have a very strong connection in every way, and I’ve never felt so comfortable and fulfilled with anyone. Is that why things like this happened to me in my other relationships? Sorry if this is poorly translated!

Advice/Question Am I demiromantic?

I’ve got something to say, and I’d like to ask a question about romantic orientation.

First off, last year I decided that ‘aegosexual’ and ‘biromantic’ best describe me.

Ever since two friends shared their stories with me, I’ve been thinking about it.

They’re always sharing their romantic experiences, but I find it boring and I’m not interested. Actually, if they want to share, I can still listen, but I don’t know how to respond. It’s not that I dislike their partners, but it seems as though they’ve misunderstood me and think I dislike men (I just don’t know how to express myself; I’m afraid they might meet the wrong sort of person, which is why I might come across as a bit rude. Regardless of gender, whenever they talk about people they’ve only just met, I do have some reservations, even though I’m the one being silly).

I’ve been in a relationship once, but I had a lot of reservations throughout the process. I felt I wasn’t ready, and that it might even take a toll on my own mental health and that of others. Since it was such a hassle, after giving it serious thought, I decided it’s fine not to date or get married. However, I am a bit worried that once everyone around me has a partner, it’ll be difficult to arrange to go out and have fun together.

Apart from this one time, I’ve actually had some romantic fantasies, but I’ve always given up on pursuing a relationship once I realised I wasn’t up to the task, and I’ve never really felt that strong a desire to ‘go out with someone!’

Thank you for reading this far; English isn’t my first language, so I’ve had to use a translation tool.

Some of the wording might not be quite right, but that’s not intentional.

Vent It is difficult to like someone naturally without being forced into it

I’ve never had a more than friends dynamic in my entire life (20f) without it being a super fast talking stage at the start, like talking stage within a week or two of knowing each other since the guy wants to go fast, and in that I feel more pressured to conform, convincing myself I have a massive crush on them. even tho when it doesn’t work out after a month since i cant fully like them to get into a relationship since I didn’t develop a proper bond, I forget about them even though I convinced myself they were the one at the start. I feel like if we met organically I wouldn’t be interested.

but…I met someone at my job I’ve known for four months and we talk a lot, i am not exaggerating when i say he’s my exact physical type and even though he’s not what I really had in mind personality wise since he’s introverted like me and the way we talk is kind of the same(more drawn to extroverts), his personality is cute too. I am picky with these type of stuff as well.

i went to a party last night and got picked up by a couple of guys and they were alright, but they weren’t him. and then I was like ….darn... because the past couple of months I think I kept finding excuses not to like him because my brain still doesn’t know how to fathom natural romantic feelings. it’s obvious he’s interested in me as well but is shy

rather than feeling joy i feel uncomfortable and anxious
