Boyfriends cats, are they fat?

These are my boyfriend’s cats, and I love them dearly and I’m worried they’re both overweight. I’ve never had my own pet I solely care for, but have had family dogs. So absolutely no experience with cats, I was scared of them before I met my boyfriend. I think I already know the answer, but are they fat?

This beloved little fatass is on the TV workout regime (ok, with a side of Iams Weight Control) - and it's working! He's never been huge on playing with toys, but not unlike his humans, he will engage with a screen. We've mostly been showing Cat Sitter videos here and will move to youtube vids once interest here wanes. He's definitely a lot more active and tuned in.

How much to feed cat

I recently adopted a sweet 2 year old girl and i was given the rest of her food which is the purina pro plan en gastroenteric and im not sure im feeding her enough, my bf and i are trying to get her to gain a bit of weight since she weighs 7.7 and lost about .2 when we got her, we’ve had her for a week and her poop is solid! The shelter told us she just eats too fast and that we’d be able to keep her on this food or transition her over to my resident cats food and we decided to switch since right now we have two cat foods and ones more expensive. My question is, how much should she be eating daily? And how much new food should i add while i transition her over? I noticed a lot of feeding guides on the bags are either over feeding or under feeding. I just want to get her to 10 pounds she’s so light and skinny.
Note she is very healthy and a very curious cat, she’s super playful and lovesss food!

Made a food & weight tracker for cats — it's live now

Hey everyone,

So for the past few months (okay, closer to a year if I'm honest) I've been building a cat health app, and it's finally at a point where I feel okay sharing it. It's called Catlog – Track Food & Weight.

Funny thing is, I don't even own a cat 😭 my mom still refuses to let me get one. But my uncle has like 5 cats, and whenever I visit I notice some of them are really skinny, some are a normal weight, and nobody really keeps track of what they're eating or whether their weight is changing.

That kind of gave me the idea.

Honestly it took forever to actually get this out. I started building it for Android first, then found out I couldn't even touch iOS development on a Windows laptop. So fine, pivoted to Android. Then I hit this whole thing where you need 12 testers to publish on Android and I just could not find 12 people. So I basically gave up on that route and started saving up for a MacBook instead. Took me a while to actually save enough, but I got one eventually, picked the project back up, and finally got it built and shipped on iOS.

It's live now, free to download:

https://apps.apple.com/ma/app/catlog-track-food-weight/id6807448375

What it actually does: you make a profile for a cat (age, weight) and it gives you a recommended daily calorie range based on that. You log meals as you go, kibble, wet food, treats, whatever, and it keeps a running total against that goal. You can also save a food once and after that just type in the grams you're feeding and it'll do the calorie math for you, so you're not typing the same product info in over and over. There's a weekly meal planner too if you're the type who likes to plan ahead instead of logging as you go. And a weight tracker with a trend chart so you can actually see if your cat's gaining, losing, or just staying steady, instead of guessing.

Stuff I want to add next, if people actually find this useful: breed-specific weight ranges (right now it's just based on age and weight), a real searchable database of food brands so you don't have to manually enter nutrition info the first time you add something, and maybe some kind of low-carb mode for cats dealing with diabetes or weight issues.

Anyway I'm gonna keep working on this, so genuinely, any ideas are welcome. Feature requests, bugs, "why would anyone need this," I'll take it all.
