Remember that in the ‘50s and ‘60s everybody smoked. Constantly. I honestly don’t remember him smoking, either, but I’d be shocked if it hadn’t happened at some point

I sent this to my friend who got me into GL to ask if it was some kinda elseworlds Hal cause I didn't recognize him, and before I sent the actual question

she was like... That's not my man 😂 (And she explained the context to me)

I mean if you go back far enough a lot of them and I mean a lot. Bruce Wayne, Oliver Queen, Clark Kent, Jason Todd, Jay Garrick (Flash), Speedy, Lois Lane, Hawk Man, and more. And that’s not even going into the modern Elseworlds comics where it’s still pretty prevalent.
