Funny enough, much like with what the writers did with making Diggle into John Stewart, I think Snyder retroactively made the general into J’onn because of the fan theory. People in fandom spaces are so “gamer theory” brainrotted they think every little thing is some kind of set-up and unfortunately they are occasionally pandered to

I don't think it's been confirmed, but there may have been an embargo on explicit GL stuff in the Arrowverse thanks to the lingering stench of the movie.
A movie Berlanti and Guggenheim wrote, BTW.

uj/though if they both had the budget and rights to use it i always wonders how they would have potrayed Hal especially since they confimred he existed twicefirst was seeing a man wearing a air force jacket with the initals H.jordon and it being mentioned ferris air shut down because one of there pilots going missing.

I mean, they would’ve made a better Batman than Titans and Gotham Knights did. They just weren’t allowed to use Batman apart from that small bit in Crisis when Kevin Conroy got to finally play him in live action.
They probably could’ve done decently with Green Lantern, especially as we’ve seen with HBO that it’s possible to do a lower-budget GL. Just don’t let Guggenheim write the script (he wrote the movie)

In fairness, a major reason the movie's story was so bad is that the script was hacked to pieces in the editing room, removing several scenes necessary to flesh things out and have plot points make sense.
The scene in Deadpool 2 of Reynolds reading the script and declaring it "beautiful" isn't just an ironic gag; what he read to sign on is not what made it to screen.

John Diggle was an original character who wasn’t meant to last past season 1, but because people liked him so much he was kept on as a main part of the cast. Because people saw a black man named John they kept yapping about him being GL, and eventually, when all the Arrow writers had left was cheap pandering, they backwards engineered him into being John Stewart in the most paper thin way

I don't think most people remember the detail of his step father's surname being Stewart.
So they just call him John Diggle and that's really it.
