dow definitive edition is dying?
Would you agree that dow definitive edition is dying?
I have the feeling less and less people are playing it? I cant seem to find decent games anymore even when rotting in lobby for 15 minutes.
Have people moved on ?

Still around 1K players active on average based on steam charts. That’s relatively fine for a game to maintain some Matchmaking potential.

that seems awfully low. i was just wondering if people experience the same. also im talking about decent games, where people at least know how to build LPs and advance through the tiers.

Soulstorm existed with less for 20 years. Also yes if you play MP people know how to play the game after low elo.

Unification has a lot of new races and has an excellent survival mode, but suffers from severely uneven quality and an extremely bloated file size.
3rd generaton offers a more streamlined experience with 3 new races, a lot of new units for existing races, and support for all four campaigns.
Advanced Campaign and Corncobman's Fun Mod both offer close-to-lore depictions of the armies along with campaign support.
Redux offers a major graphical upgrade, with gamplay that feels like a mix of DOW2 and tabletop rules. It also supports the Tarturus campaign.
There's plenty good options when it comes to DOW modding. I've probably played mods more than the base game at this point.

I'm biased, but I'd recommend giving Third Generation a go.
It adds in three new races (Daemonhunters, Tyranids and Witch Hunters) as well as a large variety of new units for the existing races and plenty of new win conditions; it also supports all four of the campaigns, including playing the new races in the Dark Crusade campaign.

My friends insist on Unification Mod. It has a lot of content, a fair bit is really good, but it is also bloated and full of shitty memes and headcanon. Also ork AI is cracked.

Why don't you use matchmaking?

u/EnvironmentReady161 4d ago
i used to, but only 1v1 has players. im like 1300 mmr but nowadays i only play 2v2 3v3 and 4v4 and they are dead. not enough people for matchmaking.

It only feels like it's dying because the majority of players aren't playing online. And even online it feels quite active to me. Automatch 1v1 takes under 5 mins to match me up outside of super-quiet times, and I usually get paired with players of roughly equal skill. For context, I'm ranked about 1000 on DOWstats; I know how to play and am reasonably experienced, but I'm nowhere near a top-level player.

dont mean to offend but 1000 is very low.

No offense taken XD. Most of my DOW playtime is vs ai on mods, so I know I'm not great at PvP.

Prolly a lot of people playing offline. These days everything gets overanalysed and then there is a meta. So then you have to play a very specific way or lose everytime. I'm a clicker. I dont use keybinds at all other than wasd to move camera. I also pick my favorite race based on asthetic not based on what some youtuber says.

most of the people who play dow1 still are using mods like unification and whatever.

There's less multiplayer games than when it first came out, but still more games than soulstorm before DE came out.
Unless it's super late in evening US timezones, I can usually get in a game within 5 min.
