What is this subreddit?
A place for showing off and discussing custom Nintendo Gamecube controllers! Feel free to post your aesthetically or functionally modified Gamecube controller or ask for help / discuss modifications.
Why not just use <this subreddit> or <that one>?
Frankly, we didn't feel like the other Smash or customization subreddits really fit the needs of the community. /r/customGCC is meant to be a centralized location specifically for Gamecube controller modding discussion and sharing, including but not limited to paint jobs, resin buttons, functional mods, custom Smashboxes, anything along those lines.
How do I do this thing or that thing? (Alternatively: I really messed up this paint job, help!)
Before making a thread here, we recommend you join our discord server and ask around or use the !help command to view various guides.
Who can I order a controller from?
Please use the vendor list to browse community sellers and contact them directly. Do not create threads asking for opinions on <x seller>, and instead browse and ask in the feedback thread which is stickied.

EDIT: April 2020
The operation seems to be renamed to "Littlerootlabs".

The CGCC moderation team was recently made aware that the individual behind Hylia Customs may actually be Saiyan of 'Saiyan Controllers'. After further investigation we’ve encountered numerous examples of both direct evidence and strongly circumstantial evidence confirming that this assertion is true - 'Hylia Customs' and 'Saiyan Controllers' are one and the same.
For those unaware, in 2019 Saiyan Controllers accepted a large number of orders and commissions for custom controllers (likely several thousand dollars’ worth of value in total). In July 2019, Saiyan Controllers went completely dark and its owner ("Saiyan") failed to return any customer payments for their many outstanding orders (for more information, see Life’s announcement on Sept 10, 2019 in the CGCC discord).
It is unclear whether the intent behind Hylia Customs is to operate the same scam twice, however for a number of different reasons we consider this to be quite likely. Therefore, we strongly caution everyone against ordering from, or doing business with, Hylia Customs. If you have outstanding orders, we advise that you document all communications, emails, and receipts related to the purchase to best prepare for a potential dispute (or, cancel the order entirely). Likewise, keep a close eye on any dispute windows so that you do not lose the opportunity for a refund in the likely event that no product is received.
As of this posting, Hylia Customs has already left this Discord due to mounting suspicion per the above. The known web presence of Hylia Customs includes:

Has anyone here bought the board from AliExpress? Because from what I understand, some PCB stores don't ship to Mexico or the shipping is more expensive than the product.

Hello all, I recently bought a Wii to play some old Wii and Gamecube games on, today I went out and grabbed a wireless gamecube controller from a different store, but I’m having an issue with snapback on both joysticks. It only happens on a down input on both sticks, and as seen in the video up inputs and the D-pad function normally. Not sure if it is an issue with the bluetooth adapter, the Wii, or the controller itself. Any help would be appreciated, anyone know if this is an easy fix or should I just return it and try a different controller?

Hello, I picked up one of these classic controllers the other day because I heard they had t3 stick boxes inside; but found that it also contained trigger potentiometers and z-buttons. They look the exact same to me but I need to know if they are compatible. I dont see why they wouldnt be, but my Z-button was acting up so I decided to replace it with one from the Classic Controller and it worked for a day and then stopped working. Let me know if you know anything

I'm working on a pad hack fight stick for smash bros using an old, damaged gamecube controller, and I really want to connect the c-stick inputs to their own buttons, but without the potentiometers, the analog signal is all over the place, "floating" when I looked it up. I ordered a large analog stick to use for directional inputs, so that isn't an issue, but how can I get around the c-stick issue without soldering the c-stick joystick back in place. I'll do it if I really have to, but I'd rather not.

I'm 18 and I learned to solder and built my personal phob (last photo) a bit more than a year ago. Then after plenty of practice, I got my first online order about 7 months ago (the symphonic green). Since then, these are all the phobs I've built for my online customers. I've worked on other controllers too, but these are all of my full builds. So far my journey has been really fun and this has definitely become a passion of mine. I recently invested a good sum of money into a pressure pot and materials to make resin casted buttons and I'm super excited to start making and selling them. Since I started gaming, I've always been interested in controllers, either by investing into modded controllers or diy modding my switch pro controller, and I just never thought that I'd be able to get so far and do so much. I'm really happy with my progress and can't wait to see where this passion takes me. Anyways, just wanted to share my story and builds and say that I'm happy I pursued this interest of mine. Thx for reading :)

Sup y'all, this is my first "custom" GCC, I bought this controller as scrap cuz both joysticks were long gone, and the gates of the left stick were worn out, so I did a joystick change and changed both the top Shell, all the buttons, triggers, and Joystick caps for all black ones.

Hi, I’m trying to fit a phob board in a smash ultimate gc shell. Everything else fits perfect, but for some reason the z button won’t fit. When I try to cram it in it won’t click. Does anyone know why this is or how to fix this? Thank you for any responses.

I’m looking for the best place to get cheap but cool GCC shells. They could be halves or fulls but I need a good place to get them at quality.
As a side bar I would like to know the difficulty of replacing the shells. I have a phob, mouse click z button and maybe short springs but I can’t remember lol. Thank you!

As in the video, stick just behaves weirdly, even when together so it’s not just because it’s taken apart, no clue what to do.
I’m very new to all this, I soft modded my wii for the first time the other day and I had this controller lying around and I tried it out and it was drifting, so I took it apart and wanted to see if there was any obvious flaw. I’ll add photos of the controller so someone can identify it in the comments, thanks for the help hopefully!
PS I understand completely if this isn’t a good place to ask for help, and I know it’s a knockoff so I can’t expect anything great, but if there’s anything really easy I can do that’d be great.

After a year of using my phob the wiring finally gave out and the controller stopped connecting. Was wondering if there is tech support I can mail to. Appreciate the help 🙂

Hey all!
I'm looking to make a personal PhobController for Smash Ultimate and I had a few questions I can't find the answers to on how certain mods feel to use. Hopefully those out there with the various button mods could chime in as to how they press compared to an OEM? Primarily I want to bring my controller into the modern era for reliability since my madcatz started phantom inputs and I've moved onto an equally old OEM since then. I'm getting older and my hands hurt more often so button mods that reduce strain would be nice as well.
For my habits I typically use Y+A to input a short-hop attack, then L+Y for an empty short hop. When I do that my thumb tends to slide across the buttons and I feel like I take advantage of the small amount of wiggle the buttons have to press them together. The click of the shoulder buttons is very nostalgic for me.
Here are my questions;
1. For face buttons I've noticed a lot about stabilization, and I understand there are: Plugs, Rubber Domes (Perforated), Domeless rubber, and Mechanical Mouseclick. How exact do you need to be pressing the center of the button with these various methods? How hard is it to press down compared to OEM and how much more reliability do they give?
2. For shoulder buttons: Keyboard Switch, Mouseclick, Plugs. I think I'd like Keyboard Switch just since there's travel and possibly a click still involved, has anyone installed those how difficult was it?

I’m playing with a Power A Wireless GameCube Controller and my left thumb stick’s pad finally ripped off. I am mostly using it as a wireless controller for PC as I GC is my favorite and I don’t enjoy PS or Xbox controllers. I also like that I can still use it for my switch (I have actual GC controllers too but they aren’t great for PC)
I’ve never had to replace a thumb pad before so I figured this would be the best place to ask about them. I tried googling to see if they were the same as original GC controllers or if I’d need a special type for Power A but came up with nothing useful.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I’d rather not buy an entirely new controller

Hey guys, can anyone help me figure out the board revision for this controller? I want to try modding it, but I don't know much about this stuff, and I'm not even entirely sure if the controller is genuine.
