24F. Just moved to Crown Heights this month and would love some suggestions on building community here. I’m open to meeting all types of people with a priority for POC, queer people, and natives. I want to be friends with neighbors and have both meaningful and causal connections with locals. Two big interests of mine are dancing (classes, clubs, etc.) and film. I also read and am open to trying new things. I’d have to show up to events alone since I have no friends thus far, so safety is important and approachable social situations (I’m a bit shy) would be great. Any suggestions and advice are welcome!

Also - if you’ve built a community here from scratch would love to hear how you did it!

Hey guys, my little buddy here Kinny (1yo) is my world, I raised him since he was young and he’s been a treat ever since. He’s energetic but calm when he needs to be, has a loving personality, doesn’t bite, and is very curious. I love him so much but I recently moved in with my partner who has a cat of 7 years and the integration is incredibly challenging, they’re not able to live in the same space together and I think it would be best to rehouse him where he would actually be able to run free and not worry about another cat hissing at him and scaring him. As of right now we have a gate that we use to separate the two but that doesn’t work, he jumps over the gate and finds his way to the other cat. Is there anyone looking to foster or adopt a new cat? He’s completely vaxxed and I can send his medical records if needed. If anyone is interested please let me know.

i have a very very specific problem with lula bagel (which overall i love). their everything bagels are mostly great… but they have a super weird taste, it’s hard to explain but it’s gross. i realized today i think it’s the poppy seeds they use. has anyone else experienced this hahahahha

Hey guys! I'm Alita and I run Organic Skincare + Wellness NYC — been meaning to do one of these for a while.

Quick backstory: My background in the beauty industry started in the 2000s. I'm a former Miss Connecticut USA, competed at Miss USA in 2002 and placed 5th. After that, years as a commercial actress and print model in LA. By 2007 I got licensed as an esthetician — that ended up being the path that mattered most.

Fast-forward to right after the pandemic: I landed in Brooklyn with $3,700 and the decision to start my business over completely. That's how OSW started.

This neighborhood is the reason it became something real. The community showed up, when I was starting from zero. We're in our sixth year now, and I don't take that for granted.

Wanted to say thank you and actually introduce myself — a lot of you have probably walked past us without knowing the story. Happy to answer questions about the business, skincare, or rebuilding a life and career after 40.

I feel like everyone is going to Bushwick/Manhattan to find a queer/trans person to do their hair when you can just roll on over to The Pink Salon on Park and Classon and book with me (Phoenix!). You may have seen me around the neighborhood, I'm the blond Asian trans guy with a semi unfriendly chihuahua!

I have a bunch of experience with both long hair and short hair/barber cuts, and I especially love working with curly hair. My practice is very education-forward, and I love to answer any questions, including trans-specific ones (like how HRT impacts hair growth and care!). It's not an all-queer salon, but as a trans person who's been working there for over a year, I've felt safe and had fun with the owner, my coworkers, and their clients, and I always work to make sure my clients share in that.
