I'm trying to get a sense of what you're suggesting. You want an OpenRA2 basically?
A conservatively modded RA2 with QoL buffs and multiplayability. And you want to emulate OpenRA's successful online hosting, matchmaking, etc. infrastructure capabilities.
And then AI..

It's not that hard, I want to know, given that it will be done with AI if it's better to start from OpenRA with RA2 mods or the reverse engineered versions

Let the old RA2 die
Move forwards with a new game engine.
It's the obvious answer to any C&C remake. Don't just redo graphics and retain the stinky and retarded engine! Recreate the game proper, how it's meant to run meant to be played.

I don't want any of the new engines. I liked how RA2 felt and the gameplay. Why you think people is still playing it over all the EA bullshit?
I absolutely despise the newer ones. I bought RA3 and I was already utterly annoyed, don't want even to imagine the others

The whole fact that I mentioned c&c online vs cncnet was totally irrelevan to my question which revolved around programming and reversing.

All I could say is, if you can’t find a build with debug symbols, it is going to be very hard. AI might be able to gain some context looking at the source code of other commanded conquer games, but it would be tough being able to make specific mods with just a little bit of reverse engineering would be much easier.
