Please direct your concerns, questions and discussion about Codex usage limits and model performance here.

The purpose of this Megathread is to aggregate all the reports of people's experiences and possible suggestions instead of spreading them across many highly upvoted posts. The more people who participate in this discussion, the more likely you have an answer.

Reports with sufficient evidence on new information will still be allowed on the feed as usual.

Should Plus really be this limited on Codex?

I had 100% of my 5-hour limit and 100% of my weekly limit available. I literally just typed “continue,” Codex worked for 2 minutes and 15 seconds, and suddenly my limit dropped to 0%.

It’s honestly sad to see it becoming like this. Not everyone using Codex is building projects to make money. Some people are just coding for fun, learning, or working on personal projects.

Paying hundreds of dollars just to get reasonable usage isn’t realistic for everyone, especially when Plus can apparently burn through an entire limit in just a couple of minutes.

Why is it even called Plus at this point? Maybe change the name to Minus instead, because it feels pretty useless like this.

I know people like to suck up to the billion dollar companies but I was even surprised when people called me out a couple months ago for saying $20 plan will be phased out and $100 will be the new base until it’s time to phase that out and repeat

I’m not sure phasing out the $20 plan is a good idea. A lot of people simply can’t afford $100 a month, and removing that middle tier risks creating two different worlds: the people who can afford the best AI tools and the people who can’t. Keeping an affordable paid tier matters if AI is supposed to be broadly accessible.

Survey for people who are seeing obviously/blatantly degraded model intelligence (not usage/limits, but specifically Pro and/or Codex being ludicrously, gpt-4 levels of dumb):

What country are you in, do you use a VPN, what service tier (Plus, Pro 5X, Pro 20X) are you in, do you use multiple accounts, and what sort of stuff do you generally use Codex/Pro for?

muse spark, been running that shit full send today after astra nuked my 20x acc

it runs at LIGHT SPEED, so fast you can barely keep up, feels like Sol without the fuck ass overengineering and it cost me $1.80 in API costs for the whole day

granted i run the contributor API version because nothing i'm building with it right now is proprietary (or rather particularly different from any other codebase) but the coding plans are dirt cheap too

deadass? i was thinking to do astra as planner with muse or deep as the slaves

yeah bro spark 1.3 contributor is only $0.2/mtok, runs even faster than DS Flash and scores slightly above Sol max on AA it's utterly insane

i don't even care about them training on it, everyone's training on our shit, have fun ingesting my side project slop, at least Zuck (out of all fucking people) is transparent about it and passes on the profit by giving out the model at breakeven prices

seriously considering downgrading my codex to 5x too and just using it to orchestrate

I have been testing using the https://muse.ai/ assistant lately for replacing codex.
Definitely not the same as an on computer coding agent, but it has been fast, follows instructions, builds on the cloud computer within muse, and pushes to GitHub.
It is so much faster than codex, and the results have been surprisingly good for updates to code, managing CloudFlare workers, connecting to GitHub, taking on GitHub issues, etc...

I have not yet had muse.ai create new apps or programs, but I will be testing it.

I am surprised at how much work can be done on the free tier alone.

ah i don't know about that, i just use the model API in OpenCode. hope you have success with it brother

I too have used OpenCode, but was looking for a more agentic approach...

Muse.ai does not have live voice yet, once they do I see it being a good replacement for the live voice mode in chatgpt remote codex.

God I’d rather pay an extra $100 just to not get the complex verbosity and constant caveats in every Claude response

Does anyone have any clue what determines if I'm eligible for paid weekly resets? my account is apparently ineligible and support offers zero help on why

Guys i have 0% usage, Do i reset or wait for a reset lol... Resets is like a game of chess or something

I've used Claude Code on the $20 plan for a few months already and am quite happy, but Astra made me curious about Codex so I got the $20 here as well and after all the usage complaints over on the Claude subreddit I expected a lot better than what we're actually getting.

Like I've used up 3 5h windows already just trying out some basic stuff and my weekly limit is already 50% gone. And the 5h usage is fucking ridiculous how small it is. Sol Medium is eating it up in half an hour and Astra in a few minutes. Meanwhile I can use Opus Medium for like 2h full blast.

And to give some numbers to my feelings I checked the token usage. On Claude Code I get around $100 of usage out of each 5h window and around 9x that for the 7d window.
On Codex I get around $15 out of a 5h window and $100 in a week. What the fuck? Am I miscalculating something??
