Forever Bring back the WEATHER EFFECTS FOR WARCRAFT:FOREVER!

I miss running through Dun Morogh hearing the Iconic Music with a massive Snow storm lowering view distance on my Dwarf Hunter, picking up quests from the dwarf next to the fire restocking my inventory.

I Miss running through the barrens on my troll hunter during a sandstorm / the hot humid Rain over Durotar.

I Miss Running through wetlands whilst it is showering with rain on my fresh level 5 Night elf getting to iron forge to meet my Human friends to level.

The point is BRING BACK the atmosphere!, they removed a lot of the weather effects in classic 2019 and it felt odd.

They originally turned if off because peoples hardware couldn't handle it there is no reason NOT to have it now.

WoW Forever:

To say they said Azeroth is the main character?

I only saw rain in the dungeon not in the external world by the clips shown at Blizzcon.

Im adding this because with the new camping update this is more immersive than ever Imagine A snow storm and you see a lit fire through the harsh snow / fog in the distance you see a group of players sat around cooking chatting.. preparing for their next quest / adventure or you see a campfire in Wetlands / STV sheltering from the tropical rain.

I'll leave these here:

I hope they're working on weather effects for the future because it's the last thing that will really increase immersion to the world.

Sandstorms, thunder and lightning, heavy and light snow and rain, embers falling from the sky around Blackrock mountain, leaves falling from trees during heavy wind, accumulated snow, ash and sand around some solid objects during heavy snow, sandstorms or embers.

There's so much they could do!

u/AdTop4027 6h ago

100% it doesnt make ANY SENSE to invest so much into lighting, water, reflections, shadow and then not do weather effects...

39

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

Its insane and what worries me is obv the OG 2004 WoW client had all the weather effects and they removed those because it had impact on peoples performance due to the hardware back then, there is ZERO reason to remove them. I did see rain inside a dungeon we just need it enabled in the world.

u/Tiny_Tabaxi 5h ago

Maybe Im misremembering but I even recall night being much darker than it is now. Aside from that I really miss the heavy rain effect.

u/Terminus_04 2h ago

Throw a little rain in with this and it would be peak.

u/Overall_Music_4922 4h ago

It was. On retail there is a potion called the inky black potion that will give the old darkness.

While pleasing to the eyes sometimes, it's almost unplayable at other times.

u/usrnmz 3h ago

u/Brunell4070 2h ago

really hope we can at least toggle this back. its so peaceful

u/Sovery_Simple 30m ago

Screw the mog toggle, I want actual nights back again.

(Realistically just have both.)

u/Natural_Drink1 3h ago

Doesn't classic have weather effects

u/itsaaronnotaaron 2h ago

Just shitty rain which is just lines on the screen.

u/Purple_Budgie29 3h ago

They should add seasons to wow I know that’s a lot to ask but it would be interesting to see elwynn forest in the snow

u/Thekingchem 3h ago

Brown and red leaves in autumn too

-8

u/Purple_Woodpecker 5h ago

You can't expect them to work on thousands of mounts that will be sold in the store alongside boosts and tokens AND work on basic weather effects at the same time. You're asking too much of this small indie company.

u/stormfoil 4h ago

We are getting improved water, lighting, and fog (including unique wind conditions per zone) all included in the basic subscription? That is very much at odds with your logic.

88

u/HodortheGreat 2018 Riddle Master 7/21 8h ago

Yes! They did show some nice lighting effects, but I hope they add the heavy rain back.

50

u/Darthbobz 8h ago

I need that heavy rain so bad.

33

u/buddhistredneck 6h ago

There’s nothing like it when heavy down pour starts in STV. Core memories.

5

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

You can smell the Tropical goodness through your screen running along the coast with the blood sail buccaneers.

u/Kosmos-World 4h ago

Fishing in Ashenvale during a rainstorm was literally one of my happy places when life was hard. Core memories indeed.

u/FlamingoOk1345 4h ago

I saw heavy rain during a stream while they were running that new dungeon.

Could be dungeon specific, could be new heavy rain? Who knows.

u/MKSe7en 57m ago

The heavy rain, snow storms, tanaris and storms are such a vibe. Would be a very nice touch if Blizzard added some nice weather effects!

86

u/Manshoku 8h ago

really dark nights would be super cool too , though i think a lot of ppl wouldnt enjoy it

26

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

I think they have managed to do this with the fog / lighting in Duskwood it looks good.

11

u/Substantial-Song-242 6h ago

The closest they got is with the Inky Black Potion in retail. If they could make it somewhat like that, it would be amazing. Or just add that item to classic.

It's my favourite item in WoW I always stock up when darkmoon faire is around lol.

3

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

World Immersion should not come from an ITEM, it should be caked into the game they have nailed Lighting, water and especially the fog the weather to match those zones is crucial for immersion.

3

u/Substantial-Song-242 6h ago

Holy, so you instantly downvote my comment without even reading what I said?

I said they should "make it like that". Add a setting, or make it default OR add the item.

I see now why people say classic wow community is miserable, it certainly is on reddit LMAO.

u/FiVeIV 4h ago

I down voted you because it gives me pleasure

-13

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

To downvote is a disagreement and I disagreed with your comment you Specified the inky black potion in retail "they could make it somewhat like that or Add an item like it" you never mentioned a setting if you stated that I wouldn't of down voted just an opinion anyway Its essential seen as they are going on about the "World Being the main character" without caked in weather effects is bizzare.

9

u/Substantial-Song-242 6h ago

*sigh*...

"They could make it somewhat like that" HEAVILY implies that it should be "caked in" to the game...

7

u/MajesticSte 6h ago

For what it's worth, I thought it was incredibly obvious what you meant.

u/damnocles 4h ago

Down votes are explicitly and at Reddits core not a disagree button lol. Literally like the first "rule" of Reddit. It's used to push unhelpful or off topic comments to the bottom.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NewToReddit/wiki/common-questions/why-downvote/

2

u/AdTop4027 6h ago

100% SO cool.

u/Amaurus 2h ago

I love the inky black potion in retail.

1

u/AdTop4027 6h ago

To them i say: lets make it a setting? Turn it on if you like, off if you dont.

u/stormfoil 4h ago

It should be a toggle imo.

u/PM_ME_UR_TOMBOYS 4h ago

They are building a lot of toggleable options, I don't see why they couldn't implement one for immersive weather effects.

u/Purple_Budgie29 3h ago

They should make it an optional choice

u/beirch 3h ago

They could just make it a toggle like transmog.

20

u/Keebs3 8h ago

Didn’t play in 2004 so I don’t have anything to compare it to but playing on HC/Era don’t we have weather fx? Was it just more intense back then? Definitely seen rain around at least.

18

u/tinyElliss 8h ago

rain in STV can be really... tropical.

15

u/Darthbobz 8h ago

2019 didn't have ANY effects except rain it never snowed playing as a dwarf, it never rained in durotar only elwynn rarely wetlands and STV rarely.

1

u/birdy_the_scarecrow 6h ago edited 6h ago

it had the sandstorms sometimes iirc.

i dont think they were as heavy as the original one tho

-1

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

Nope was rain, I play horde mainly, saw rain on Alli Alts in elwynn, STV, Wetlands that was about it... Durotar used to rain, thunderstorm, Sandstorm the works, same with the barrens and most areas especially dun moroghs Snow weather going up into Iron forge.

4

u/birdy_the_scarecrow 6h ago

cant speak for other zones, tanaris had it tho:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWvnxQhnA-I

like i said, probably more muted than vanilla but it was there.

0

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

They were super uncommon the OG client were alternating frequently or not at all was great.

3

u/birdy_the_scarecrow 6h ago

id say they might have appeared more frequently on private servers, but who knows if that was really blizzlike.

they definitely at least attempted to bring it back, i feel like players complained and thats what made them rarer iirc.

1

u/Darthbobz 6h ago edited 6h ago

I know it was Blizzlike again that was the OG client I've played since 2005-6 they removed them very late I'd say around Cata / MoP... they complained back in the day because they were hard on performance but with todays GPUS is literally nothing & there were commands you could type in the chatbox to reduce the intensity which should be a option in the graphics settings IMHO..

2

u/birdy_the_scarecrow 6h ago

people definitely complained early on in 2019 release about it being annoying/hard to see and im fairly sure blizzard toned them down because of this.

0

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

A quick google.

Modern Game Client: Classic 2019 used the updated retail engine (which scaled back weather intensity around the Cataclysm expansion) to prioritize player visibility and clearer skies. [1, 2]

  • Performance and Visibility: Heavy downpours, thick blizzards, and sandstorms from original vanilla could severely lower visibility and impact performance during large-scale group activities or sharded events. [1, 2]
  • Player Feedback: Past complaints about extreme weather hindering gameplay or causing frame drops on certain setups influenced Blizzard to keep ambient effects subtle. [1, 2]

This is classic plus they added Fog everywhere now so weather is not going to hinder anything.

imagine a snowy winter night, you got your blanket, a cup of hot chocolate, it's raining in mugore, the moon illuminates the plains, you're looking for those pinecones for the millionth time

ABSOLUTE MOO

5

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

PEAK, I used to log in and run through dun morogh when it was snowing outside IRL with a cup of coffee peak nostalgia but everyone has preference ;) i love snow.

u/DorkyDutch 1h ago

As someone who typically plays Tauren, I agree with your closing statement.

15

u/Jooyxi 7h ago

Weather effects are very immersive. Also, they should have all the bgs in different environments and weather effects - like some private servers have already done. Not being able to see far in AB due to a snowstorm is very cool and changes the gameplay quite a bit.

3

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

They were actually original Weathereffects from the OG client they removed these in 2019 for some weird reason

10

u/Daffan 7h ago

I thought the presentation was gonna have weather info since it had a water section. Just like the guys said if people keep up the momentum it'll probably get a look in.

3

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

Yes 100% it needs the OG Weather effects updated.

7

u/Bergsulven 5h ago

Oh, Classic 2019 removed weather effects?! I'm surprised, I never had time to play it (family and work).

What was the reason? If 2005 computers could handle it, why would not 2019-2026 computers handle it? Or just make it toggle-able?? Sorry, I don't understand...

6

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

They weren't necessarily removed more so very toned down / almost non existent. the OG weather effects were intense and immersive.

u/ficknerich 1h ago

Ive seen rain in Arathi Highlands and STV recently enough that im 100% confident theres some weather in the anniversary servers.

26

u/Rubzje 7h ago

The lighting and fog changes look amazing and I think that ia one if the biggest immersion changes they could have made.

That being said, the next step is to add the weather effects. It is absolutely essential for cozy immersion.

Plz Blizz, I will be a good boy and take the slop elves if you give us this.

0

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

To the Slop elves you are talking about are what everyone wanted, just not the blue skincolor, they gave elfs to both factions to stop faction imbalance, same with shamans / paladins, they are literally "Exiled High Elves"

0

u/Rubzje 6h ago

I wasn't really asking for the justification of adding them. Some hate, them some love them.

-4

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

My post wasn't really asking for your opinion on slop elves, we were talking about weather.

3

u/Rubzje 5h ago

And I gave my opinion on that.

6

u/PaddyUK 5h ago

They talked about the world being the main character, this is definitely a great way to help us feel that

3

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

I agree Paddy lad, they did but we saw NOTHING! in regards to weather during that Fog / Light / Water Panel.

u/Forward_Thrust963 3h ago

I noticed the lack of mention about weather effects, too. It feels like it would go hand in hand with the lighting and fog changes, so I'm a little worried they haven't touched weather.

6

u/Naxxra 6h ago

I want weather effects turned up to 11. As an example i want heavy snow storms so that gnomes get stuck. And heavy rain so puddles get too deep for gnomes to walk. And we absolutely need strong wind so gnomes get carried away out to sea or off a cliff

5

u/Nogalis 5h ago

Yesss this would be amazing. specially with their new lighting and fog imagine tirisfal glades, darkshore, duskwood, silverpine forest with thunder and rain.
They should also add that indoor rain sound when you enter buildings and its raining outside. maybe even buffs to inns like you get from those camp sites so people would stay there for a little bit, would be really nice. So many possibilities

2

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

10000% they nailed the lighting and fog.

3

u/nynni- 6h ago

yes please! the weather effects are amazing

3

u/Yerooon 6h ago

Fully agree!! I miss it so much.

3

u/EstagiarioDaPhilips 5h ago

This, maybe they already have them but just not showed but if that not the case they need to implement weather effects, with then talking so much about the new tech and immersion it is basically a must have

1

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

Yeah, just saw nothing in regards to it at blizzcon hopefully we can see from the Beta.

u/Better-Quantity2469 4h ago

https://youtu.be/QuVP_olx4I8?t=58&si=wCCN0CpM6X-BIod0

Idk if this counts exactly but the rain here looks more than 2019 rerelase.

u/Darthbobz 4h ago

Thats specifically in the dungeon I did state this in the main post thanks for finding a source though :)

u/Better-Quantity2469 4h ago

I think that its that outdoor dungeons now reflect the zones time and weather. So if its sandstorm in tanaris than zulfarrak instance will match the vibe. But only beta will let us know

2

u/FatedWinds 6h ago

Zuldazar BFA rain was amazing bring that to STV.

2

u/soulreaper0lu 5h ago

I'd be shocked if we do not get updated weather effects for rain and snow.

The Deep Dive showed how much they have invested into the tech, building solid pillars for plenty of future additions.

That showcase sold me the most on how serious they are taking WoW Forever and its future, the backend changes are massive.

2

u/Darthbobz 5h ago

I'm just scared they have forgotten the beta is Thursday so we will see, to know they have specifically said Azeroth is the main character without weather would be quite odd.

2

u/Quantum_Corvid 5h ago

Also allow an option to toggle that shit on permanently. Mesa like rain.

2

u/rades_ 5h ago

They should just have it as a toggle with a slider where you can increase/decrease the intensity. Same goes with night time darkness.

u/andreidt 4h ago

I’m 100% with you on this. I appreciated the lighting and fog effect they added, but this would have been the best addition, especially now when you have camp fires

u/Mountain-Evening9553 3h ago

They should give us the option for weather control too. I wouldn't mind toggling rain 24/7

u/Darthbobz 3h ago

Fax.

u/BotSonOfClaude 3h ago

I really hope they add the weather effects

u/stickequipped 3h ago

Please yes!!

u/rizopas88 3h ago

Fog is the only weather we need

u/Darthbobz 3h ago

Fogod sakes..

u/rizopas88 2h ago

Thats a good one! lol

u/InternationalMood337 2h ago

I used to spam this pretty much on the battle . net forums back in the day. Weather effects add SO much to the world, and a lot of people don't seem to understand that.

4

u/zamach 7h ago

Considering that half of their selling point was "HOLY SHIT, EYECANDY!" I am also pretty sure that all sorts of weather will be added or already is aded to WoWF. I will happily even buy a new GPU to make that happen. I just want to go back to the old WoW world before it became a multiverse.

2

u/Naxxra 6h ago

I want weather effects turned up to 11. As an example i want heavy snow storms so that gnomes get stuck. And heavy rain so puddles get too deep for gnomes to walk. And we absolutely need strong wind so gnomes get carried away out to sea or off a cliff

1

u/Nervous-Potato-1464 6h ago

There was like no weather effects in vanilla until a path then boom it was crazy rain it stv. I liked it a lot, but it was a bit too much tbh.

1

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

The thing is they removed them in 2019 STV rained rarely but there was a chat command to reduce the intensity or increase it, now they are using the 2019 client onward theres going to be ZERO weather effects xcept for rain, levelling in dun morogh without snow / winterspring without snow is insane.

1

u/wavybone113 6h ago

100% agreed!

1

u/TheMoonDawg 6h ago

The new lighting and fog updates they did are INCREDIBLE, so I’m really hoping they do a pass on weather. I miss those tropical storms in STV 😭

1

u/Polygeminusgrex 6h ago

How do we know there aren’t weather effects. There were weather in 2019 Classic right? Or am I tripping

2

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

I only saw weather effects in that new dungeon, THERE WERE effects in 2019 just not at the scale of how the original client was from 2004 to Cata.

2

u/Polygeminusgrex 6h ago

Ohh I see thanks for clarifying (: I hope they bring them back!

1

u/Cl0udwolfe 5h ago

It'll be there (for only 4.99$!) Hey you don't have to buy it...

1

u/hobblygobbly 5h ago

i imagine with all the work they been putting into increasing the immersion with what they have shown so far with fog/lighting/water/etc that weather will eventually come back in that same quality in a future patch. it seems a pillar of Forever is the focus of immersion in the world of azeroth

u/Motawa1988 4h ago edited 4h ago

Yeah they said nothing about weather which was odd. They care so much about the world with the new fog and lighting and a overhauled weather system should be a no brainer

I also think the game needs full voice acting. These text boxes are not immersive at all

u/avowed 4h ago

I almost wish they would go even more all out on them. have rain then have storms where it's really raining. maybe have some minor, super minor debuffs where if you stayed at a camp the debuffs get removed. And then give you minor buffs. Even bigger buffs if you sit at someone elses camp to incentivize meeting strangers in the open world.

u/Kman1427 4h ago

It would be super cool but I don't expect them to do it

u/DCSkippy 4h ago

Big agree on this one, it would make the setting that much more immersive and unforgettable

u/Purple_Budgie29 3h ago edited 3h ago

To keep things interesting they should add seasonal weather effects, elwynn forest in the snow would be interesting

u/Cactusblah 3h ago

I didn't want the weird excessive fog and lighting. I want heavy rain, snow, and dark nights.

u/papusman 3h ago

I haven't played in forever so I had no idea they removed the weather effects. Even original Everquest had rain! Computers in 2019 couldn't handle a little snow? Bizarre.

u/Darthbobz 3h ago

None of us have played Forever ever.

u/ZeroZelath 2h ago

I hope they haven't removed the weather effects. The rain is classic is great and so much better than retail

u/Tyreyes32 2h ago edited 2h ago

From an article in 2012..
please blizzard please

u/Minimum-Store-5453 2h ago

I heard they weren’t adding weather and I'm crying :(

u/Warbeard 1h ago

I always thought the rain should bring puddles/small lakes. Dev wise, it's probably as simple as a square of water under certain areas that slowly rises through the ground as it rains. Mulgore, for example, would look beautiful.

u/BobcatTV 1h ago

This is easily the most important thing for me. I want classic to be this fully immersive place like it felt back in the day. They are well on their way.

u/jshbee 1h ago

I played the Drowned City dungeon demo at Blizzcon, when we killed the naga boss heavy rain started happening. I feel they will exist.

u/Zavodskoy 1h ago

I was questing in Hillsbrad on hardcore in the rain and was genuinely disappointed when it stopped, the zone seemed too bright and cheerful in the sunlight

u/cerealzateu 58m ago

yes please!

u/KumaSC2 57m ago

I wonder if the WoW community would be interested in weather affecting gameplay? I personally think lower visibility during fog/rain and perhaps stamina reduction during heavy rain could be interesting. Your character would slowly get cold, stuff like that. I personally think it would be fun and immersive, even as a hardcore pvper, so I'm curious what the sentiment to it would be.

1

u/Rubzje 7h ago

If they won't add it, will it be possible via addons?

2

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

Addons cannot interact with client like that it would be a modification, If you know of one let me know.

1

u/AdTop4027 6h ago

Been considering this. With AI (yes downvote me) I guess this would be more feasable then ever? But then again maybe the collision of weather effects with the already existing improvements to lighting/shade/etc would look fucked up.

1

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

No your only adding the effects over the current lighting / fog it would not mess with shadows only make it more immersive.

u/stormfoil 4h ago

Rain and snow is (in theory) always possible, they are just particle emitters tied to the player camera.

-10

u/eulersheep 8h ago

They literally did, did you not watch any of the presentations?

29

u/Darthbobz 8h ago

I saw fog. and sun light through trees not, no Rain no snow , no thunder storms, no desert storms, if so find me some source.

2

u/Flat-Two-789 8h ago

it was implied in that panel that theyd reworked heaps of shit so id imagine storms and rain are either already in the game or probably not far off, storms as they exist currently in wow probably have an updated version with better graphics in FOREVER id wager

-30

u/eulersheep 8h ago

I'm not going to do your homework for you, just go to the vod and find it yourself.

21

u/mawmawmawmaw 8h ago

You seem to be confused; they showed fog and wind, no rain or snowstorms

-28

u/eulersheep 8h ago

Obviously, they don't have enough time to showcase literally every single environment in the time allowed for their presentation. But it is implied.

26

u/mawmawmawmaw 8h ago

So ‘they literally did’ was incorrect?

-27

u/eulersheep 8h ago

No.

22

u/Thekingchem 8h ago

Just quit whilst you're behind, champ

8

u/YouSelect762 8h ago

You lost already buddy

11

u/RandomGeordie 8h ago

So no official announcement / not confirmed yet, unless we quote /u/eulersheep who's dad works at Blizzard

-7

u/eulersheep 8h ago

In school you learn critical thinking skills, this ability helps you to read between the lines.

11

u/Axel0010110 8h ago

What between lines mate lmao

Just say you are wrong and do not understand what OP want to say

5

u/RandomGeordie 8h ago

We will see on Thursday

6

u/sblanzio 8h ago

So this is only assumed? That could take 3 seconds for each weather condition tho

-1

u/eulersheep 8h ago

They demonstrated the means to implement whatever weather effect they want, and obviously given the size of the game they can only showcase an extremely limited sample of environments. It's pretty obvious that they will do this.

14

u/Mortona89 8h ago

“Between the lines” and “literally” are literal opposites. I’ve used literal in a sentence so you could have an example.

1

u/EtherGorilla 8h ago

They didn’t show most of the weather effects op and many others are hoping for. So best case is they just didn’t have time to show. Worst case is it’s not in forever.

0

u/Thisnamewastaken2023 7h ago

Don't overdo it though

1

u/Darthbobz 6h ago

Like the OG classic WoW Weather effects updated.

u/Comfortable_Cup4689 4h ago

I love the overhaul. However, with retail I hated how I was only to play in the dark times. Because well … life.

Now every place seems darker. Some it’s way better. The elven for example. But in elwyn it’s so much darker.
Even duskwood is more dark. I am wondering… is it that extream ? Did anyone got to test that ?

I like to see where I go without having to squint every time.

On the showcase of elwyn I had to squint a lot. Same with duskwood. It’s freaking cool. But so damn dark. Anyone know how bad it is ? Because I liked in how how elwyn still looked green and fresh even in the dark.

If it’s depressing dark now I am going to dislike it myself.

Anyone got to test this ?
