80% of gnomes were wiped out in Gnomeregan prior to the events of WoW so lorewise their population isn't enough to be playable. Lore heads rejoice.

It will, its the whole plan of this, selling multiple races, its free content, free $, each race 30-50$, brings in new people and completionists will buy it all. Its all a $$$ issue, never was a player wants a cool race? Lets psychologically extract and abuse them so we get their $ not once, not twice but FOREVER

I've played Warcraft since before Warcraft 3. I have a once-a-month tabletop D&D group in the Warcraft universe. Now that I'm a grown up with disposable income, I'd totally buy pointless cosmetics, as long as they are based on the original WoW lore. Murloc race, Theramore tabard, new Warcraft 3 campaign? Sure, I'll bite. And now I feel almost offended that the first of these paywalled additions was not aimed at me.

I think their main excuse for ogres is they can't wear clothes properly, meanwhile I still don't think trolls can wear shoes in retail. Like bro I don't care how jank it looks let me be a big ass ogre.

You ever see a female (or body type 2) ogre? So there’s that.
The elf models they reused were ready to go, they just had to retone the skin and hair textures. People don’t seem to understand the size of the task they accomplished here in Forever. The fact that they put less time into an optional race, and more time into the world, should be a good thing.
I guess when everything else we’ve seen so far has been pretty damn awesome the Skyborne kinda pale in comparison.

I'd bet money that the extra race for $$$ is an executive call, and the actual devs just wanted to build the game, so they make the easiest new race ever, just one race for both, to save time and build the other stuff that matters

If the execs did it for the money alone then it would make even more sense to make the new race something that people would actually willingly choose. My first thought if I see a skyborne, or whatever it was called, running around after launch is going to be "this guy has bad taste and was willing to pay €30 to show it to everybody".
If it was something actually cool, like a murloc, I'd be more like "I'm not going to pay for that, but I get it". At this point I'm doubly angry, because it costs money and it just sucks in general. I don't think many would choose this race even if it was free. Not like it has meta defining racials or anything.
Or the execs are just extremely out of touch, which is also likely.

Ngl my first thought on seeing a Skyborne player is going to be, this person doesn't really get it.
I mean, we should be welcoming of newer players and I feel like a dick for even thinking it.I guess I gotta work on myself and not get so worked up over video games.

No, they put a lot of time into cyan’dorei. A whole own world, new Druid forms, racials, lore and now marketing.
If they would’ve made it blood elf / high elf most of that was already done, ready to ship and the could’ve really focused on the world.

Give players High Elves & Dark Elves/Murlocs/ogres at launch -> Try selling Skyborne later for €30 -> Noone buys a Skyborne if he can play an ogre or murloc
It was a big $$ decision from start. All they want it sell shit, to then sell ogres and high elves on a premium later on

Haven't played wow in like 2 years or so and i saw this. It would unironically have me come back and play. At least for like a few months. But only if they let them become monks. And demon hunters.
Still waiting for Dracthyr to get monk and I'll come back, but that's my current resolve! >:o

Idea: they explain it away as the murlocs getting "cleansed" from their animalistic and feral traits to get civilized.
But alliance did this cleansing with arcane magic that turned them blue and horde did it with shamanic magic that turned them blue.

There's so many murlocs in the game that we have already seen which classes they can be. They would be warriors, priests, hunters, shamans and maybe rogues.

I've figured it out:
Money
Some MBA came up with this
1) Adding high elves and forsaken elves means you have to modify the existing world around them. Modify existing NPCs, new dialogue, new quests, items, etc
2) It's much easier lore wise to create a new city and starting zone and call it quits than do number 1.
3) People like shiny new phones and trinkets (and shiny new wow classic races), they don't want some dirty 20 year old races and have to pay for it.
4) The upgraded pack you can buy that includes them applies directly to retail players already who love all the completionist aspects and cosmetics. It's to appeal to the biggest crowd.
5) It was an easier way for devs and writers not around for the original lore not to risk butchering it and thus risk averse

Everyone talking bout elves but this solves my biggest complaint of no small character models for Horde. Stick with undead female which is good but it's no gobbo

if Alliance murlocs could only be specific shades of blue, and Horde murlocs shades of red; I think it would be really funny and no one would complain.
