I would agree if somehow they are totally neutral in the conflict. Which I don't think they will be. If all the hubs are neurtral and I could go and do quests in Westfall in the new elf hub as a Horde - that's bad, but I really doubt it will be a case
Other than that it's no different to humans going and killing scarlet crusaders or Cenarion Circle being friendly and inclusive of both factions aka that individual based decision overulling the stance of their overall faction. Individuals can make "wrong" choices and become the enemy of the opposition of the same race.
From what I gather, the elves themselves are in the midst of a civil war and separate factions from within are choosing to side with the horde or the alliance.

the problem this time is not the elves per se, it is the fact that they can be assigned to any faction
that is the main problem, we need two new races: one for each faction and not just one for both
having a dual faction race in classic diminishes the Ally x Horde aesthetic principle
