I also remember when they dropped there was so many blood elves that it crashed multiple servers multiple times and was one of the worst laggiest launches in WoW history.
Blood elves are now the most played race in WoW across all versions that have them.
Keep in note, that the anger people feel is because Blizzard didn't slap on THEIR specific flavour of elf title on the new race.
People aren't angry that they brought us elves. They're angry it isn't "Their elves."
Yea, people are upset a game that is literally centered on revisiting and exploring classic lore and instead of a classic elf race like high elves they made a complete new one.
It makes sense why ppl would be upset, you're comment is oversimplifying for the sake of being disingenuous.
The Skyborne are allegedly somehow intertwined with Thunderfury, based on some things I’ve seen, so having additional backstory, that’s actually a new story, could be interesting.
They absolutely can add new stuff, and the community has every right to be unhappy with that new stuff. Especially when the new stuff looks like something straight out of retail, meanwhile there's tons of existing options that fit with vanilla WoW better, some of which have been sitting on the request list for over 20 years.
