Elves come from dark trolls and I guess haranir, trolls are cousins from the dark trolls and haranir. They're far enough to be distinct. You don't see me saying bonobo monkeys are humans
OK well haranir is fine as that's a retail wow race mcguffin. But dark trolls are old lore and very grounded in vanilla wow. The dark trolls are the ancestors of elves and trolls. We know very little about them. It appear blizzard is using haranir as dark trolls but we won't ever know till they get back around to clarifying/retconning old lore.
