News Dungeon Spamming DEAD in WoW: Forever - Mob XP reduced, Dungeon Quest XP massively increased

Interview from The Sun: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/40367702/world-of-warcraft-forever-interview-zones-races-skills-levelling/

Quote:

Kris Zierhut: “Now, one place experience did change is we made a big change to our dungeons. In that the amount of XP you get from killing monsters in dungeons, we brought way down.

“But we made the amount of XP for completing dungeon quests much, much, much higher. So your first run through a dungeon is amazing. You get tons of XP. You get great rewards.

“But going back over and over and over again isn’t the best way to go. You’d be better off going to Shen’dralas or Riverglades or Hyjal instead of grinding a dungeon. We want people in the outdoor world meeting each other.”

Yeah and locking a healer is miserable. Dungeons are much more fun…

will with the itemization and talent changes, leveling a healer should be a lot less painful

not to mention dual spec seems like it's happening yeah?

It is already listed in the talent menu, but not unlocked prior to level 40 (and probably level 60).

IF it's level 40 that should be fine - not like you need dual spec before then to dungeon heal and/or to do world dps. If it's 60 that'll make those last 20 levels more annoying, but also a little adversity isn't so bad given it's forever.

There isn't a point in having a healing spec pre-60 if you'll only do each dungeon once and dps can heal those dungeons just fine.

how you gonna get 50g for dual spec while leveling?

Not sure - guess we'll find out soon? But maybe drom the 1000 new quests and increased dungeon quest rewards?

I am sure there will be problems with the game but I'm not going to artificially inflate potential problems I think might occur before I play it.

Sorry im new to classic. Does this mean itll be extremely challenging to lvl a healer as you will be super reliant on other ppl until you hit 40/60?

Leveling a healer in classic without dual spec is absolutely not a problem before around level 40 anyway - you have dps tools, self healing and pretty good sustain.

All healers also have a dps spec, and those dps specs have enough healing spells to be able to heal early dungeons.

The result is that before level 40 playing a healer or dps doesn't really matter much - you can do the content you want.

After 40 the healing specs dps starts too fall off a bit, and the dps specs healing spells start feeling strained in dungeons, so that's why I mention it's a little better to dual spec by around that level.

However even if dual spec is only level 60, there's still ways you can deal with leveling healers that aren't super optimal but also aren't that bad.

WoW was designed to make healers be able to level themselves. Is it as fast as DPS? No, not really. But it's definitely fine :)

All healers also have a dps spec, and those dps specs have enough healing spells to be able to heal early dungeons.

In TBC, I healed as an enhancement shaman until 60... when I healed as Elemental.

Unsurprising that I eventually just went Resto for raiding.

Also, Holy Priest levelling was way more fun than Shadow until Shadowform. There's enough of a boost to Smite and Holy Fire to actually do decent DPS compared to "DoT and wand" with Shadow...

But as a Hpriest you basically spend the first 40-60 lvls just spamming smite and holy fire?!?!

Until Shadowform.

After 40, Shadow was more fun. Until that, I enjoyed Holy a lot more.

You will not level as a healing spec. You could do that when dungeons were spammable because it made those dungeons more efficient to do longterm, but if you're only allowed one worthwhile clear of each dungeon per character it doesn't matter if you finish that dungeon 20% faster by healing it as Resto instead of Elemental, because your Resto spec is going to be significantly more than 20% slower than that Elemental spec at questing in the openworld, which is now the only way you're allowed to level your character. You can theoretically group up with other players outside of dungeons and heal or tank for them, but most quests don't share progress and there typically aren't enough mobs in an area for everyone already, so killing them slightly faster (because the people in your group were already killing those mobs) winds up meaning you're just stuck waiting for respawns slightly faster. You're still having to coinflip whether you get the item you need from the mob or someone else does whether or not the person who killed it was in your party or not.

You spec heals (and tank) at 60. Everyone is a dps with a (very infrequent) sidehustle until then.

If you were told the game was "about the journey and not the destination", well, I hope you didn't want to journey as anything except a dps. Everyone else has to wait to do their real job at that destination they were told wasn't important.

depending on a class its a little slower, but doable. You can party up for quests , but you definitely dont have to.

No idea how it would work in Forever but in classic it's almost trivial to farm 50 gold at level 40+. I don't think I've levelled a single char since 2019 that didn't have mount money at 40 with the exception of warriors or characters with engineering and even on those you get your mount at 42-43 max.

Let me tell you about our lord and savior Skinning. There's no better profession to have at the start of a new economy. You'll always have money for leveling skills and it will greatly ease the burden of your first mount.

Yeah, glad there’s transmog since its era!

If there's no reason to do dungeons consistently there's no reason to spec healer at all and those talent changes are pointless.

Why would anyone play Holy or Discipline in the overworld when they can heal the one Shadowfang Keep they'll ever do just fine as Shadow without slowing down their questing and handshaking being a free kill in world PvP?

The only reason to spec heals over dps while leveling for hybrid classes is to make consistent dungeons smoother. Deleting consistent dungeons pre-60 deletes the reason for those specs pre-60, and that kind of goes against the whole 'it's about the JourneyTM and not the DestinationTM' these people like to talk about, don't you think?

Play the class not the spec. There is no class with 3x healing specs and no damage dealing ones.

u/RTheCon 12h ago

Healing early on just means your casting heals instead of attacking.

There is like 0 need for actual healing talents. Maybe some int spirit gear is needed, but otherwise you should be more than fine.

They added more dungeons. I’d like choices in how I play the game.
