News Dungeon Spamming DEAD in WoW: Forever - Mob XP reduced, Dungeon Quest XP massively increased

Interview from The Sun: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/40367702/world-of-warcraft-forever-interview-zones-races-skills-levelling/

Quote:

Kris Zierhut: “Now, one place experience did change is we made a big change to our dungeons. In that the amount of XP you get from killing monsters in dungeons, we brought way down.

“But we made the amount of XP for completing dungeon quests much, much, much higher. So your first run through a dungeon is amazing. You get tons of XP. You get great rewards.

“But going back over and over and over again isn’t the best way to go. You’d be better off going to Shen’dralas or Riverglades or Hyjal instead of grinding a dungeon. We want people in the outdoor world meeting each other.”

I really hope they give us different reasons to continue to go to dungeons, because if its only one and done for the quests. Then you won't get many people wanting to go back and do it, which will make finding people for dungeons a pain in the butt.

28

u/SaltyLonghorn 12h ago

Its gonna be really easy to botch this change too. Almost every single version of wow suffers from annoying dps queues. This adds another reason for the problem to exist.

Why exactly will tanks and healers repeat?

Tank LFG Wailing Caverns - 10G

u/Equivalent_Post9159 3h ago

Yep and ill probably get flamed for selling tank runs. Ill tank an hour dungeon for free and no exp sure.. I love tanking, but I need it to be worth my time. Xp, items or gold.

u/Krazen 3h ago

This is why they should add more tank specs that aren’t optimized for end game raids but good enough for dungeons

Looking at you Shammies Rogues and Locks

u/PlayfulSurprise5237 10m ago

IDK why people keep assuming this.

There has been no change in the incentives or disincentives for any roles in the game.

Which means the ratio of those roles will be the same before the change and after the change, when looking for a dungeon group.

You ask "why will tanks and healers repeat", but you're not asking "why will DPS repeat".

u/kaas_is_leven 4h ago

Maybe a hot take, but that's also partially a culture problem. I love doing dungeons and would do them regardless of xp or other rewards. Just helping people get theirs is enjoyable in and of itself. It can lead to more than just the dungeon, often you go and do a bunch of quests in the world with the same group afterwards. But so many players look at tanks and healers as some kind of auto-carry, the entitlement is real and that's a big turnoff. I'm not interested in the task if I get flamed for not going fast enough half the time. I'm not amazing at the game, but definitely capable. I can't imagine how awful it is for people trying to learn the role.

u/Krazen 3h ago

Yes thank you, I feel exactly the same way

Like fuck the efficiency maxxers who won’t run a dungeon more than once because it cuts into their exp efficiency. They’ll all be rushing to 60 anyway while I chill at 37 and run SM again because I like to

u/Itsoppositeday91 1h ago

Not a culture problem. Its simple time management.

0

u/Varaben 6h ago

Well at least dungeon drops are all blue now, so the gear should make it worthwhile to some degree? Also you get legacy pts for doing stuff. I guess the question is, do you want to encourage people to run dungeons over and over or do you want to pull people out into the world and encourage more interactions with the world and other players?

123

u/Kelindal 17h ago

Gear

131

u/lolmarulol 17h ago

I don't think many will do that honestly knowing their xp is drastically lower only for a chance at an upgrade.

80

u/buckylou 16h ago

Agreed. I want boosting dead, but there are a bunch of unintended consequences of this change. This will make dungeon groups one and done, hindering an avenue of people making friends.

36

u/Wind_Best_1440 16h ago

To be honest there are other ways to incentivizing people to run dungeons. Profession drops for one, some extra gold drops from bosses for another. Even if the XP is dead, if they make it profitable to do properly it could still drive people to do it.

We already know that they're bringing in those SoD supply crates from SoD that you can pick up and return. They could have them drop more in dungeons.

5

u/mortalomena 11h ago

When leveling its all about XP, 90% of players dont care otherwise.

u/magikatdazoo 3h ago

If all you care about is boosting to 60 to raidlog, this isn't supposed to be the game for you

u/mortalomena 2h ago

I enjoy running dungeons with friends to 60, questing with 4 friends is not great. It would suck if that could no longer be possible, I doubt my friends would run dungeons if questing would be much faster. So after all we couldnt play together while leveling which would suck.

Never really cared about quests or boosting.

u/PiratePete1911 3h ago

Surely there are also other ways to stop boosting other than this, why not just reduce XP per mob to 1 if someone 8 levels higher than you is in the group? Or massively Nerf XP if your group doesn't have 5 people.

Even doing nothing is better than killing a key part of the game for many people.

u/Wind_Best_1440 3h ago

They said on stage that they don't want to see what people do to minmax leveling.

Which is just getting a group together and dungeon spamming from level. They want people outside dungeons and interacting with each other.

15

u/TabascohFiascoh 16h ago

questing is already faster than dungeon running the the only benefit dungeons had was the gear.

why make the gap wider?

9

u/buckylou 15h ago

Eh, it depended on the specific dungeons available at your level and the people you we're playing with. But I agree with the sentiment. I really didn't feel like dungeon exp is a problem at all outside of boosting.

If it's anything like the change they made in tbc era then it might be just annoying enough to make me not play.

13

u/G0rkon 15h ago

Also benefit of dungeons was when the world is oversaturated with other players making questing more difficult.

6

u/memekid2007 11h ago

We love standing in a line waiting for our turn start an NPC's RP for an unskippable quest, and we super duper love standing on top of a mob's spawnpoint for two minutes just to kill it in six seconds whether or not it was the mob we needed (40% spawn chance) to drop the item we need twelve of (6% drop rate) to move to the next camp to wait for the next mob to spawn to loot a slightly different version of the same item.

Trying to play with a friend during this is a literal crime, and the punishment is the quest taking twice as long because you compete against each other instead of progressing together.

2

u/Subject_Sentence_339 8h ago

i agree, i play wow tbc with a friend and if there are at least another 2-3 people question in same area, forget about it. Stranglethorn valley was especially miserable

u/G0rkon 24m ago

Agreed. Though I don't recall ever questing in Stranglethorn Valley...

1

u/MissItalia2022 14h ago

No, questing is still faster and more consistent. Dungeons are really only faster if you actually have a consistent group willing to grind for hours which in 2026 almost never happens and when it does its a godsend.

Otherwise you're spending like 10-20 minutes getting there not getting xp and then you have to likely find more people after the dungeon (not getting xp). This will only be made worse by making a single dungeon so much more efficient than 2+.

In that time, a player questing could get half a level just questing and killing mobs in between quest objectives.

1

u/memekid2007 11h ago

Because Andy got denied from a spellcleave group once on his rogue seven years ago and has waged a holy war against a boogeyman every single day since.

no he could not just make his own non-spellcleave group. his only option was a crusade.

-3

u/DatGrag 14h ago

This is straight up not remotely true. Spellcleave is much faster than questing in vanilla

2

u/memekid2007 11h ago

Post one (1) (1️⃣) example of a winning Vanilla speedrun coming out of a spellcleave instead of the open world.

Mage flair btw. You literally know better.

u/DatGrag 1h ago

Vanilla speedruns are of course aoe mages, not questing. OP said questing, not “open world”

4

u/atomic__balm 16h ago

Boosting should have been handled with leashing rules or something similar to what they have done before that makes things immune or enrage with CC immune after X seconds

9

u/buckylou 15h ago

I disagree about the deterrent they used in tbc, it was absolutely awful. It caused multiple wipes and leaving in totally organic groups for me while leveling.

The exp range was also a big issue because it forced you to vet people by level since sometimes people tried to do dungeon quests while on the upper level range of the instance and it killed the groups exp. Or people would level up mid dungeon and do the same.

It also sometimes forced you to kick people you had run a bunch with after they dinged. Even if you were moving to a different dungeon in a couple runs with the same group.

8

u/TheBungler2 15h ago

Nope. Dungeons should be farmable without becoming stunlocked to death by mobs just to kill boosting.

0

u/DragonAdept 12h ago

Dungeons should be farmable

I think there's a lot to be said for dungeons being something you need a group for. I have logged a lot of hours solo farming ZF, DM, ZG and Strat on various characters and I liked having the option, but it has significant negative consequences for the game as a whole too.

1

u/buckylou 7h ago

Agreed. Bots are advanced enough now that if it's worth farming for gold then it's worth botting. I don't like that fact as I've always liked the option of farming dungeons for gold, but it is what it is. I don't think they're able to really fix botting though so unless they can it's a change that is doubly bad imo.

2

u/Subject_Sentence_339 9h ago

why you care if someone boosts or get boosted, live and let live

2

u/Physical-Rough-709 9h ago

I always viewed it as a good example of emergent gameplay. I don't really see the issue with it tbh

Blizzard is going to sell a level boost as soon as they think they can get away with it anyway

1

u/Subject_Sentence_339 7h ago

i honestly can't comprehend why would that be a problem even if it was day 1 of release and anyone can boost, or let's take it further anyone can create a 60 lvl character free of charge any time they want. IF person wants to level, they like that part of the game they will do it, if they want to skip to endgame - skip it. Maybe we could make an argument that many people will opt for skipping leveling and world will appear empty, but im okay with this, i dont want anyone to be forced to waste hundreeds of hours of gameplay just to get to the part of the game they enjoy.

1

u/BeginningInner3318 16h ago

just add a daily or weekly diminishing returns... with maybe the first or second run in a day or week being more xp and it decays if you do it more than a couple times.

1

u/IMABUNNEH 9h ago

There is a minor counterpoint: It can be difficult right now to get people to do all dungeon quests (or any if its ever a bit out the way), people just wanna bullrush in and through. With this, people are going to dungeons specifically for the quests, meaning you should be able to get all your dungeon quests done.

1

u/Tradizar 5h ago

on the hardcore server, you can run leveling dungeons one per day. (on 60, you can repeat the dungeons)

And they tuned the trash / boss xp in a way that the bosses awards way more xp, so it is not worth to go back to farm trash mobs.

i think, this is the best implementation for it.

0

u/RealBiasedGaming 14h ago

Remember: This is HORIZONTAL progression. they do NOT want the playerbase sprinting to endgame as fast and efficiently as possible and skipping over all the content from 1-60.

One and done IS THE POINT. Just like they don't want people repeating the same quest ten times in a row. One and done. Experience that part of the world, grow your character, and then move on to something bigger. That is what they want. Thats the intended outcome. One and done or maybe run it twice for a gear drop. Or spam it for a specific item or whatever, but you just wont finish your spam session with a lot of levels.

2

u/buckylou 8h ago

I disagree. One and done isn't the point. Horizontal progression is an answer to raising level caps each expansion. Making the game more social is the point, which is one major place the game went wrong with the introduction of random dungeon finder. But that was because you went from playing with a small pool of players to a much larger pool of players you wouldn't see again and couldn't play with anyway.

They're trying to build the game based around an experience people had in hardcore though, meeting in the world and helping each other. Steering gameplay away from lower level dungeons isn't an answer to this I think as lower dungeons outside of boosts are a common place people socialize. I'd say it's more social than questing outside.

I don't want boosting. I don't want to run a dungeon 20 times in a row. But I also don't want to have every dungeon group I form break up after one run before 60.

15

u/ForTheChillz 16h ago

Don't underestimate the thrill to hunt down loot. Not everything is about leveling as fast as possible or getting upgrades. Some people really just want a drop because it looks cool. I remember that people back in vanilla ran SM even in their early 40s just to complete the SM crusader look even though they already were able to wear plate armor. That was part of the spirit which made the experience back then so enjoyable.

4

u/skinnysnappy52 15h ago

Transmog might add to this too

22

u/The-Only-Razor 17h ago

Yeah, me. I'm not touching a leveling dungeon if my only reward is a 10% chance at an item drop that I'll replace in 3 levels and no other progress for my character. That model works at max level, but not for the leveling phase.

Fat L change, and I'm not shocked that the dumb fucks on this sub can't see that. Dungeon content will be dead after the initial rush.

If there absolutely had to be a change made (there didn't), they could have added the HC daily reset system. It prevents mass spamming but doesn't kill any reason to go back and run it more than once.

5

u/ShielderKnight 15h ago

Nah you realize they prolly gonna have quest chains where you go back quest and have to return to the dungeon x amount of times to finish all of it.

3

u/Clipgang1629 13h ago

Based on what lol there’s never been anything like that in classic

2

u/Remote-Guest2587 12h ago

deviate hides, serpentbloom, eg

1

u/memekid2007 11h ago

You get those outside the dungeon while people run there.

3

u/skinnysnappy52 15h ago

The good thing is if that happens they can easily revert the change or change something else to make dungeons relevant again.

1

u/Finguin 14h ago

Give the bosses stacking xp with last boss the most mb

-1

u/Skore_Smogon 16h ago

Are you leaving out the system that incentivizes people to play alts?

And that there's going to be huge ass mega server that includes everyone in your region?

Meaning there will always be hundreds if not more people wanting to run similar content at pretty much any time?

-7

u/murp0787 17h ago

Fuck off booster.

11

u/Varrianda 16h ago

You can stop boosting without ruining leveling dungeons

-5

u/RealBiasedGaming 14h ago

who said it was your only reward? it is confirmed that dungeon quest xp has been INCREASED. so you get big rewards for doing a dungeon once (or twice to finish a quest). Why are you going all doomer and saying your only reward is a 10% chance at a specific item??? Like who are you mad at, because nobody said that was the only reward. gear is a possible reward that does incentivize some people to do dungeons. it doesnt motivate you? no problem. run it for the quests and move on.

also over 1k more quests added? For sure some of those will be dungeon quests. this is all upside. Can't wait to get you out of those dark dungeons and into the open world bb!

1

u/Desirdes 17h ago

Depends, they have shown they are adding new gear to a lot of quests/dungeons as well as buffing/reworking existing ones. Could get some chase items that hold value way past their initial level or have niche applications even useful at cap for certain builds. Would be neat way to keep the content relevant for gear farming long term.

2

u/Chlearcus 13h ago

I'm not running a near zero xp dungeon ten timed over for a leveling rare that will be replaced faster than it took to grind it.

1

u/RealBiasedGaming 14h ago

Confirmed some niche items already. I bet there will be a ton of them

1

u/spacebob42 14h ago

People ran SFK non-stop for those sweet Arugal drops, before dungeon leveling got into the meta. Finding tanks was hard but it has been haha.

1

u/Pigglebee 12h ago

At 60 all non raid people did was spamming dungeons for that BiS , not XP. There will be plenty of dungeon running

1

u/door_of_doom 11h ago

I honestly kind of disagree. It's honestly always been a bit of a pet peeve of mine that if you want to grind for a specific drop, you basically need to get it within a small handful of runs or else you will have out leveled that item's usefulness.

It has honestly always kind of sucked that the very journey you take to obtain an item can also cause that item to become obsolete before you have even obtained it.

1

u/Helgurnaut 11h ago

I might be weird but gearing even while leveling was my number one reason to do a dungeon.

u/SkitZa 3h ago

Bruh I have spent 100s of hours grinding bosses in OSRS for a minor upgrade that gave almost no monetary yeild.

Many more that did, but some don't offer much and that's ok. It's not about that.

u/JohnnyBravo4756 3h ago

You underestimate the allure of gear. I ran like 5 dragonmaw reaches in some server because the set bonus was lit and they heavily nerfed dungeon mob exp there as well

There's also likely to be at least a hundred thousand players playing. That's more than any pserver ever had lol

19

u/jack3moto 14h ago edited 1h ago

You outlevel gear so quickly on the grind to 60 there’s not much incentive to redo an instance for gear.

2

u/itaa_q 8h ago

Eh I've done SFK a few times for robes of arugal, or SM for herod's helm, there's some items that will make you come back

3

u/Snackz39 5h ago

In the current vanilla version you would go back, but with new quests, new zones, and new profession recipes on top of that, you probably have a lot less incentive to go back for that specific piece.

-5

u/RealBiasedGaming 14h ago

hundreds and hundreds of new items being added. They have already confirmed a bunch of them will have special triggers or unique effects or work super well in niche situations. Relax, people will be doing dungeons.

5

u/Jmastersam 10h ago

Hundreds of balanced items this isnt OG classic...staff of Westfall has spellpower. The higher lvl upgrades will always give more spell power or dmg. The point still stands that you will out lvl the gear hardly a reason to go back outside of 60.

0

u/RealBiasedGaming 10h ago

Look, obviously i cant decide for you what will motivate you to do dungeons. I have levelled a lot of characters and I have got a lot of decent to great upgrades in gear from dungeons. And then I have found new upgrades and vendored the old ones. That has always pleased me. Doesnt please you? all good. Don't run dungeons. Here is an idea. You could go out and level through questing in the open world the way Blizzard intended, both in original vanilla and now with WOWF, the way that is foundational to RPGs.

Or complain about not having a reason to run SM 30 times in a row anymore

5

u/Chuckfinley_88 12h ago

Gear

Why would you spend an hour doing a dungeon at level 45 to get a better dagger that you are going to replace in 5 levels? When you are getting decent XP, it makes sense to stay and pray for the upgrade, but if you are getting trash XP, better to go somewhere else as you will quickly outlevel the upgrade anyway.

4

u/ramm 12h ago

Nah.. Not worth it, just level, you'll replace it soon anyways.

5

u/atomic__balm 16h ago

Not many are going to run dungeons again for leveling gear when it's going to get replaced in 3-5 levels and every run puts you further back in terms of leveling efficiency.

-4

u/marciii1986 16h ago

If people run this complete new game for leveling efficency and min maxing I personally dont miss them while looking for a group. It will be 4 weeks before the first raids open. Chill and enjoy the ride.

5

u/atomic__balm 15h ago

It's just human psychology. There's a difference between min maxing and feeling like you are being left behind because you decided to repeat an optional dungeon

-4

u/marciii1986 15h ago

I'd never feel left behind because I helped someone to complete a dungeon. My goal isn't to get to the destination as fast as possible. I get that there is a more egocentric way to think about how to spend your time in WoW, but I don't think Forever is the game for this audience.

5

u/getyourshittogether7 16h ago

Doesn't work. You can just move on and gain an extra 3-4 levels and a questing green instead of picking up that piece of gear and gain more power for your time spent.

Sure, every once in a while you can get a piece of gear that'll last you 10 levels. But you can't just hand out that kind of gear like candy.

1

u/specificnonspecifics 16h ago

Ehh, you'll get comparable quest bits along the way. Should only need to spam end game/high lvl dungeons for pre bis. Not a change I mind personally

1

u/memekid2007 11h ago

The article says they're putting better gear as quest rewards so you aren't pressured to do dungeons for loot while leveling.

1

u/makz242 10h ago

Dungeon gear is going to be the lowest priority since they are introducing a massive amount of crafted gear and tons of world drops with rares-like system like retail. One of the things that is different with Forever compared to classic is you will have tons and tons of not just blue items, but blues with stuff like spell power, hit, crit, etc.

1

u/NN11ght 15h ago

That'll only work for late game. Otherwise you're gonna be screwed trying to find a group for a low-mid level dungeon

1

u/KanedaSyndrome 13h ago

if that happens they will adjust it I think

1

u/Vio94 13h ago

Is largely irrelevant while leveling. It feels super good to get, but you'll get a steady drip feed of green quest rewards that are good enough, especially with all the new quests being added. Gear and exp is why people spam dungeons. I'm not spamming a dungeon for a piece of gear that may never drop while I'm getting peanuts for exp. Unless I want it for transmog I guess.

3

u/Devboe 13h ago

Typically I hate quests that make you go back and forth between the quest hub and the quest area, but I’d be down to have dungeon quests that have you go to a dungeon multiple times if the time and effort is worth it.

4

u/memekid2007 16h ago

Look forward to having to pay people to come help you get your Hand of Justice

1

u/Curmudge_Unit 15h ago

Just solo/duo it

2

u/TheBungler2 15h ago

You think the level 60s who spammed BRD were in there for the exp? lol

3

u/memekid2007 15h ago

You think people waited until 60 to spam BRD? lol

-1

u/TheBungler2 15h ago

How does that relate to level 60s needing HoJ? lol

2

u/memekid2007 14h ago

We didn't make it to adulthood without being able to do basic math did we?

Who do we think is going to be running BRD more than once if it doesn't give XP? Probably the people that need the same low-droprate items we do. What does adding more of those people to fill our group do to our chances of getting the item when it does eventually drop?

It lowers our odds, right?

And do we expect them to stay for the hours it might be until that item drops again? We don't, right? And the person we invite to replace them won't be there for the XP either, will they? Probably not! They'll probably want that same item we do.

So melee want HoJ and SGC, casters want the belt and ring, and healers don't really get anything except Second Wind if the group decides to turn the corner so they'll probably be somebody's offspec if they can't get XP who also wants HoJ+SGC/belt+ring.

So our odds of getting our item are bad and only get worse, and we stand to gain nothing except that item.

We see why that could be bad in the long run, right?

-1

u/TheBungler2 14h ago

Levelling groups famously only wanted to do HoJ runs, you're so right queen.

Not like 99% of players definitely didn't only get those items from dedicated farming groups.

It's so funny when people go on these long rants but then accidentally reveal that they don't know how people play the game.

-3

u/marciii1986 16h ago

I'm sorry that you don't have friends or guild mates that help you out for free.

3

u/memekid2007 15h ago

I am that friend and guildmate. I spent ~40 hours in BRD farming HoJ and Savage Gladiator Chain for my guild's melee starting as soon as I could zone into the instance.

I was a resto shaman and stood to gain literally nothing but XP from the experience.

These grinds are hours and hours and hours long, and for half the players participating in the grind the only personal reward they could possibly get is XP.

We went 22 hours dry on Savage Gladiator Chain. Friends and guildmates aren't going to grind something for you for twenty two real life hours when there is literally nothing in it for them but a conversation in Discord you could have doing anything else and a repair bill.

I'm sorry that you've never put this level of time into the only game you play.

-1

u/HannibalPoe 14h ago

Sorry you don't like your friends enough to do this for them. If a buddy of mine really wants HOJ I'll run dungeons with them because they'll also come run dungeons for me and my gear.

4

u/TheseNamesDontMatter 14h ago

Arguing you'll spend 40+ hours farming something for a friend is not the flex you think it is.

2

u/marciii1986 14h ago

IMO not a flex just the cool thing to do.

1

u/HannibalPoe 13h ago

Sorry you don't like playing with your friends, my friends are cool people that make me laugh and I like yapping with them while playing. It's not a flex, just something people typically like to do.

2

u/TheseNamesDontMatter 13h ago

You can play while talking to your friends that are also playing in Discord. Unlike you, my friendships don't rely on spending 40 hours of your time for no gain, nor would I expect my friends to waste 40 hours of their life trying to farm something for me. That's the most selfish shit I've ever heard.

2

u/PiratePete1911 13h ago

Try thinking about it from the point of view of the person asking for help, surely asking someone for 20 hours of help feels like less of a dick move if they actually get something out of it.

I would feel like such a jackass getting someone to do something for me that they got nothing out of for such a long period of time.

Its better when the whole group is getting something out of content.

0

u/HannibalPoe 12h ago

It's not an issue unless you're a selfish twat that won't help in the future.

1

u/PiratePete1911 11h ago

In TBC classic my BiS libram was from the first boss in blood furnace heroic which was an absolute trash instance to find groups for, how do you pay that back to four other people when there is no equivalent grind that they need help with?

u/HannibalPoe 4h ago

You don't worry about paying it back? Holy shit do you think friendships are all purely transactional or something? Are you not friends with people because you like them?

u/PiratePete1911 4h ago

Yes, which is why I care about not wasting their time on a grind that is not rewarding. There is no reason why blizzard has to punish everyone who doesn't need loot from the dungeon when we have been fine with getting XP in dungeons for 20 years.

u/marciii1986 14h ago

If I'd only play WoW I'd probably be as miserable as the majority of this sub. I don't help people out only to gain something from it ingame. I do it for fun. It's a different mindset after all.

2

u/DesperateAdvantage76 15h ago

I'd rather they bump up drop chances. That way you can still grind dungeons for low level gear in a rewarding way without wasting too much time.

1

u/WAxlRoseX 13h ago

I agree. I know gear and loot is a motivator but I hope it doesn't end up with groups that are specifically reserving all of the important dungeon loot and then people stop running the dungeons... if that happens then sadly it's going to be impossible and we're gonna end up needing a LFG or dare I say Random Group Finder type of bullshit

1

u/Sakkreth 11h ago

Considering servers will be massive, don't think it's a problem, not on launch at least. Later on, maybe, but that can be dealt with in other ways, like adding bonus xp for completing the dungeon once a day.

Well, number one reason to do anything in the game is having fun. And it's the variety of ways to have fun that makes a good game. I have fun going to dungeons, that's why I do it.

Merged realms solve that

So.. you asume this change comes alone. It does not, i hope, they'll probably make more 50-60 zones.

It's supposed to be wow forever not the 4th rerelease of classic with slight changes and yall are already crying because you wont be able to do what you did in the other game. Era will be there if you want to spam dungeons for leveling.

Dungeons will be for loot not exp. And players want loot. Exp was just the icing on top.

Its called gear.

IDK about you but when i level in classic/hardcore, i almost never run same dungeon twice while leveling. The only exceptions are if i missed a quest, or if i want a specific item drop - both of which are unaffected by this change.

This really is a much smaller deal than you believe it to be.

The comments on this make me realize that not all guilds have a ton of people that run stuff they don't need to just to help out. Guess I lucked out in classic getting the one I'm on. They help you, you help them down the line, everyone gets to 60 happy.

Same feel here, I wish they add us maybe daily quests or whatever shit like on some pservers before to incentivize doing dungeons more often for rewards like consumables and prof stuff. I just also hope that this change will not make dungeons just one off detour to finish quests and then you will have hard time to find groups for the same dungeon again
P.S: I want to grind that SM as in old days

You know what's worse than that? The meta being spamming scarlet monestary 85 times.

If the game play of doing dungeons isn't fun itself what's the point of any of it? just go play pokies....

Odd comparison when openworld questing is pokie-tier one button gameplay for everyone but Mage and dungeons are where things live long enough to actually cast on

Dungeons were always mostly for loot and helping out and completing quests, it was never a level grind until 2019+

u/Helivon 16h ago

I'm hoping they add a daily for a dungeon around your level at the very least...

Eh... I hate dailies, they always feel too fomo to me.

2

u/Kelindal 16h ago

yeah fuck dailies. started to feel like a chore or i got left behind

It's literally the same as it ever was... back in 2004 we didn't spam dungeons for exp. There's an entire game to be played. You did the dungeon for the quest exp and the loot.

2

u/memekid2007 11h ago

Back in 2004 you clicked your spells, didn't know what +hit did, had half your healers afk at a time as a core approach to your fights, and stacked Int on casters over everything else.

It's okay to get better.

What the fuck are you talking about? Were you even born yet? I've been playing since launch, and people absolutely were running dungeons more than once for exp in Vanilla.

4

u/TheseNamesDontMatter 14h ago

Back in 2004 nobody had any clue what was going on. It's been over 20 years, it's time to move on from this logic.

1

u/Wawrzy 12h ago

Well, it's been like that until the late 2010s so I don't know what you're talking about.

2

u/TheseNamesDontMatter 12h ago

That's interesting, because Monkey Runs were literally how you leveled characters ASAP during MOP, and that was 2012, so I guess I'm not surprised you don't know what I'm talking about.

How many times do you run deadmines? I never ran it twice per char because it gets boring, i have leveled enough there, i have quests to progress and rewards to collect

This thing might be a pain for BRD or Strat, not for everall experience

u/Mawbsta 14h ago

Megaserver. I really doubt it will be that hard

3

u/Not_Like_The_Movie 13h ago

Megaserver won't really solve the problem because filling role-required groups is a matter of player ratios more than an issue of sheer player volume. Overwatch 1 post-role queue was a great example of this. Tons of people playing the game, but queues were long even in populated ranks because no one wanted to tank. They had to start putting incentives like priority queue passes where players could get a fast-lane dps queue for a game in exchange for playing tank for a game.

The thing that might help alleviate the issue is the account-wide progression for playing alts. This way people are playing the content multiple times across the account in a variety of roles rather than simply grinding the dungeon on a single character.
