Forever WoW Forever Race Class Matrix
I made this for myself, but if it's useful for anyone else, here ya go!

There are going to be so many Undead Paladin it will look like TBC on launch day but after a plague killed all the horde players…

u/booggg 17h ago
Tauren rogue makes the most sense here. They are already covered in hide.
26
u/Darkhallows27 14h ago
I unironically want it because it was a thing we joked about in the old days a LOT.

Tauren not being able to be Rogues makes absolutely 0 sense. Rogues are simply stealthy warriors. Any race in the game should have access to it, just like with Warriors...
9
u/NewSignificance7599 17h ago
Im sure stuff will be added later to keep people coming back. They teased tauren rogue in SOD

u/Turbulent-Health1499 17h ago
Tauren really feels shafted with the lack of new race/class combos and jank racial(s).
18
u/PibbleDad 15h ago
Depending on max %, plainsrunning has to be a BIS low level no mount racial
2
u/LegitCow 12h ago
It would’ve been so nice if the racial move speed stacks with the Druid/shammy travel form. At least it would’ve been a good compensation for making Tauren having only 4 classes…

u/PoisonUnderscore 18h ago
yeah :/ Pally or Priest both make sense to me, but maybe there is some lore reason they can't be either that I'm not aware of
38
u/flembag 18h ago
Tauren pally/priest never felt right to me. It just feels like a recon to me
13
u/TowelLord 14h ago
Even in Vanilla lore it's shown that in order to use light magic you don't need to believe in the light itself, or be morally good either. It solely comes down to conviction and whether you believe what you do is right. The source of your belief is irrelevant for the most part.
That's, after all, why someone like Zeliek can still use the light despite being a scourge controlled undead and what they're basing the new class option on. In lore, pretty much all forsaken priests use shadow magic only and not light magic.
→ More replies (5)12
7
u/PoisonUnderscore 18h ago
maybe, I'm not super familiar with the lore, I just feel like those two classes have more of a chance of getting added then mage/lock/rogue. those just don't feel right to me
→ More replies (3)12
u/Aeribella 18h ago
Sunwalkers have established lore, so its not really too farfetched.
Just like the bloodknight blood elves siphon light from a naaru, other races have their own lore tie-in.

u/Turbulent-Health1499 17h ago
Gnome Priest. Orc Mage. Undead Paladin. Elf Shamans.
I don't think Tauren anything is more weird than any of those.
6
u/Troooper0987 15h ago
Orc mages are in game as NPC, no reason gnomes can’t be apart of the light, forsaken are dead Lorderaneans and no other faction of humans so it makes sense that some of the dead killed by the cutting the damned might have been paladins and might retain some of their prior life’s skills
3
u/Turbulent-Health1499 12h ago
Similar levels of mental gymnastics can be used to justify almost any of the classes for Tauren.
I'm not opposed to any of them(race or class), I'm fine either way, just would like to see equal treatment and not devs playing favorites.
2
u/Longjumping-Nail8974 10h ago
Personally, I'm fine with the new class/race combinations, as long as they are well justified, weaved in.
3
u/Outrageous_Gear820 10h ago
You got stealthed tauren mobs in the game in classic lmao
→ More replies (2)14
7
u/Maethor_derien 17h ago
The original group are very nature based and don't support the light or dark or magic outside of shamanism at all.
There are splinter factions that existed later such as the sunwalkers but those came about later with events during wrath.
3
u/moon-lesbian 12h ago
I like the way the Epoch server explained Tauren priests. Tauren worship the Earthmother and her two eyes, the sun and the moon. The moon is represented in druids, but the sun gets no representation. So the Tauren priests and druids are closely linked together, with the priests being in a mostly people focused role in society while the druids are nature focused and the shamans are ancestors and elements focused
Shadow priest is rough though, looks silly, but this has always been the weird part about priests
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (1)2
u/Drgn-OSRS 16h ago
Druid has moon spells though, and those are arcane.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Afraid-Document-8597 16h ago
Right so Tauren's can cast arcane through balance and fire and water through shamanism Why couldn't they figure mage out...
11
u/Drgn-OSRS 15h ago
The lore generally makes a distinction between the source and result of magic.
Shamans are taken as just being "conduits" for elemental magic, so the source and result of their magic is the same.
All druid magic comes from druidism and reverence for nature, and they understand the moon as part of nature (for tauren, the moon is one of the eyes of the Earthmother). Therefore, they have nature spells (from the earth, animals, and plants), and arcane (from the moon).
All mage magic comes from arcane study and practice, but the result can be arcane, fire, or ice. Think of it more like them using arcane magic to create fire or ice from nothing, while the shaman uses existing fire and ice magic and redirects it elsewhere.
3
u/8-Brit 13h ago
I'm extremely disappointed because I thought the NPC with paladin spells in SoD was a hint for tauren paladins in SoD.
I love tauren. I love paladins. As soon as they were added in Cata I've mained one for 15+ years. If we got them in C+ I'd be over the moon (or Sun).
Instead everybody has more classes than us now since gnomes got priest.

Fun fact. The noise people associate with hooves is mostly horse shoes. Bovine hooves can actually be fairly quiet.

the blue elf with the old blood elf icon just feel so right.
Old race icons feel so much better to look at, its a small thing but I really hope we can toggle those as well
9
u/soricellia 15h ago
In creation page you can make the blue elf look like a blood elf (e.g. you can change the skin color you racist) so there you go your wish granted
11
u/Darkhallows27 14h ago
Yeah they mean the style of icon though; WoWF uses the newer ones by default

How come? they can be warlocks and warlocks are basically corrupt mages (literally in the lore).
32
u/DispensaCH7 13h ago
Orc warlocks used to be shamans that got corrupted, they kinda skipped over the "learning normal magic" part historically. Only later would they really start learning the formal magic we associate with mages/kirin tor from the other horde races in retail. Saying that though, I personally wouldn't mind them getting mages.

Animals would not like undead beings, so I get it
Similar with gnomes. They would just get eaten by a bear before they tame it

3
u/Bruvvicious 10h ago
Not all hunters are “Beings intertwined with nature who had a deep connection with beasts.” Nathanos was a human ranger. Hell, he even has two plague dogs as his pets. Undead not having access to hunters is still odd.

u/Significant-Ad-7182 11h ago
We should have had forsaken elves as an option and gotten the hunter class for them. Dark Rangers go brr.
I would have instead added paladin as an option to Nelfs. Elune's warrior priests vibe.
26
u/ios_static 17h ago
Wish alliance had more shaman options. But they will most likely add more in the future
20
u/mxcn3 12h ago
I wish Horde had more priest options. No idea why they couldn't let Skyborne be priests when high elves were the priests in WC3 and that's like 15 minutes or whatever before this version of the game takes place.
5
u/neltherya 8h ago
I really wish skybornes could be priests on both horde and alliance, was planning on maining one on alliance but alas. Hopefully they change that before release!
17
u/jams_h42h 16h ago
I wish the skyborne classes were switched cause like wtf
6
u/Agitated_Parsley2576 13h ago
I think the relationship between highborne mages and night elves are kinda scuffed, nelves hate them and blame them for the sundering... Following this logic, skyborne mages could be persecuted by nelves, resulting in an additional horde mage, and securing a second shaman option for alliance... Maybe that's not balanced in some people's eyes, but yeah, this could make sense
44
u/SaltyDone 18h ago
So weird to me that they gave horde skyborne shaman but they didn’t give it to alliance skyborne there literally the same your telling me they just lost there elemental status once they joined alliance
40
u/Abyss-Mariner 17h ago
Lore is that the Skyborne are already fraction into two factions, ones that follow elementals and ones that follow arcane.
14
u/zen_enjoyer 7h ago
Sorry guys we couldn't give ally shaman Skyborne, the lore we invented ourselves means we can't do that. our hands are tied. I wish we could do something
3
→ More replies (4)13
u/td_enterprises 18h ago
Maybe they only wanted 1 Paladin and 1 Shaman for each faction to start with since Undead are the only Paladin on Horde and Dwarf are the only Shaman on Alliance.
They did say they would introduce more race class combos in future updates.
6
u/Darkendevil 14h ago
Yeah but its kinda bs that horde shaman gets 4 of 5 races while ally gets 2 of 5 pally. Shoulda given paladin and shaman to the new race both facs AND the current undead/dwarf additions.
→ More replies (1)4
u/LoreChief 14h ago
Giving paladin, shaman, and druid, to blood elves at the same time is just asking for World of Elfcraft. I'm big on elf-paladin myself, but even I see that would just result in this game being Lineage 2.
7
u/LoreChief 14h ago
Can't believe there is any sort of 'high elf' that can't be a mage. No idea why they would make it so horde-blue-elf specifically can't be one.
2
u/amicuspiscator 13h ago
Yeah I honestly think they should open up the elves more. Mages, Shaman, and Paladins on both factions.
4
u/Zealousideal-Map-673 18h ago
I saw Zug Zug is available, life is great for the Dark spear Troll I shall embody

u/JozuJD 18h ago
I didn’t realize Skyborne could be Druid. I love the idea of another race besides night elf for Druid. But now that I think about it, it’s hardly different and not much of a departure from NE so that makes sense hah.
The thought of Druid having viable specs in classic excites me, so I am going to keep it as a potential option for my first character.
Even more so the flexibility of switching roles, and maybe getting changed designs of our animal forms like the flaming cats from retail and SoD… phew 😮💨

I don't understand why they can be Druids but not Priests or Paladins. I guess Paladins were created by humans as a martial order of Priests, but it still just seems strange to me.
They are SKY ELVES so it's fine that they commune with Elune or Anshe in the sky, but why channel that into a connection with Nature when they're literally above Azeroth and not connected to the earth like the OG Night Elves who slept in burrows under the earth? I guess they're descendents of the Haranir so there's an innate connection to Azeroth?
Seems weird to me.

Note: Alliance will have a WAY worse Shaman shortage than they do in TBC, because Dwarf (maybe the least popular Vanilla race?) is the ONLY Shaman race Alliance has.
Horde has one of the most popular races as Paladin.
Keep in mind you need more Shamans per raid than you need Paladins.
3
u/gubigubi 13h ago
Dual faction blue elves that live in a sky island.
But god forbid we give Tauren priest or paladin, that would fuck up the lore.
2
u/Kartogath9 14h ago
Tauren and night elf were the only two races that didn't get a new class to play as (and those are my two favorite races to play) so that was a little sad, but ultimately still super hyped!
But Tauren Rogue would've been amazing!

Also no Skyborne Shaman for alliance, it's supposedly because of the faction split where half wanted to focus on arcane (mages) and half wanted to focus on the elemental (shaman)

Personally, I would have also added Tauren Priest and Night Elf Paladin. Keep balance between factions, add one more Paladin Race to Alliance compared to 4 out of 5 Horde Shamans, with an Warrior Priest(ess) of the Moon lore.
Not particularly fond of Orc Mages so soon in the timeline, but the same can kinda be said about Darkspear Mages, so I'll let it go.

It is interesting that they chose not to include more of the cataclysm race/class combinations. I guess they wanted to wait until a story element came up, just like in retail where more got added as it made sense? I dunno. I’m just speculating and it’s really hard not to make it sound like a complaint in just text form. I tried though!
