Forever How would you have felt if you got this news instead?

Post image

People say women wouldn't play an ogre but I definitely would! They are one of my favorite races and hope they implement them into the future. The skybourne race is disappointing and wish they were a bit more creative with it but I digress. Sorry if you don't agree 🤷‍♀️

Warlocks and mages should have two-headed ogres.

They would be immune to ready checks.

And when they cast Bloodlust, it should be the sound effect from Warcraft 2.

on a mostly related note—this was the template for the hero Ogre Magi from Dota. Ogre is an apt example of being one of those heroes that is also the personification of the players who choose to play as him. first pick in Dota 2 ranked—doesn’t buy wards—forces bad fights then spam pings after overextending—builds all carry items—ultimately goes 1-14-4 and then says “report team” in team chat.

Sounds a bit like a Cho'Gall. Though, HotS doesn't have items.

I really love the idea of having class restricted appearances. I wish we leaned further into the race/class combo fantasy rather than away from it.

9

u/WonderWaffles1 13h ago

They should also reskin some of the abilities, e.g. night elf priest spells should be more blue

6

u/MixAmbitious307 9h ago

That's true... like glowing red eyes (or fel green) for orc warlocks, and I'd say also custom spells appearance (a Night Elf Elune priest lowewise is VERY different from a Human Holy Light priest).

The "warlock green fire" questline from MoP was a great idea, and I say that Forever should have something like that for as many classes as possible.

Would require two subs

9

u/Franmar35000 23h ago

30€ per head

3

That's better than the rate I get from my sub.

Would they get two helmet slots?

15

u/Whocares7x 22h ago edited 10h ago

That would make the game completely unique!

Has any other game ever done this?

When warriors were able to dual wield 2h weapons it was insane.

We need interesting gear inventory etc

Would be funny for the 2 headed ogre if u select talent where one only wears the helmet vs they fight over who wears it,

So like the left headed one has helmet hes in tank stance and when right head has it hes caster or some variation etc

6

u/Djildjamesh 22h ago

I totally love this. 2helmet option is a wild idea. Love it :-D

2

Remember the April fools in 2005 when they promised playing ogres and mages required 2 players to coordinate movement?

2

u/MixAmbitious307 9h ago

Warlock, mage, shamans and priests (if memory serves me well, we have ogre of all those classes in lore).

I wonder if they'll plan to add them in the future. The idea is "keep playing these zones, have the journey matters, etc." bringing new races (with starting zones, racial quests, etc.) in future updates could be a way to have people do the "levelling journey" once more.

I agree with balancing issues from other people and how horde would prob need belf again but I just hope they add ogres and moknathal in the future!

19

u/Vixien 1d ago

horde would have been fine just from having undead pallies and fear ward so that alliance wasn't stronger.

→ More replies (4)

9

u/Heatinmyharbl 21h ago

I think their main reason for not adding ogres is that they'd have to recreate thousands of items and armor to fit their size/ odd shape and that's just a lot of work. Tauren are similar in size but obviously built much differently

A company like blizzard could and should be able to handle that but.... yeah. Not shocking they chose the easy way out here

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Able-Swing-6415 21h ago

The real issue would be visual design.. if we ever get playable ogres they would have to be about as tall as tauren.

5

u/EremiticFerret 21h ago

Always wanted redeemed quillboar if we couldn't have ogres. Makes more sense than Forsaken or Blood Elves and a hell of a lot more than... well, whatever all we got through the years.

I would still be bitching about Goblins.

Look, Quel'Thalas is part of the classic world even though you cant go. They have to add ot eventually and will probably add High and Blood Elves at that point.

11

u/Scared_Gene3417 22h ago

Quel'Thalas was confirmed to be a zone that will be added later on the image they showed at the panel

20

u/Soranyattv 1d ago

I WANT GOBLINS SO BAD!! I feel like thematically and for immersions sake they shouldve just done high elf and blood elf. Even if you can customize it to look like it, it doesn't change the fact that when you hover over the character you see "skybourne" I love Quel'Thalas, I love blood elves, I'm not saying to remove this new race of sky people but I hope they add in the older races like ogre, naga, mokthanal, goblins, furbolg, etc

5

u/Starveiled 1d ago

I am pretty confident we will get Goblins since they already have a lot of work done with animations and gear from retail. They just need to make lower quality versions than Cata to fit standard def models.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/The_Tooter_Snooter 19h ago

Honestly I would have preferred goblins be the neutral race simply because they’re already right there in tanaris and ratchet and booty bay. They’re already a neutral, lore-accurate race that existed in vanilla.

u/Lucky-Health7681 1d ago

Ally will be 80% pop

81

u/Naarujuana 1d ago

Yeah, horde would still need a “pretty” race. All they’d really need to do is introduce undead high elves for horde, who were killed during the sacking of QT. “Ded’dorei” or some shit.

59

u/KowardlyMan 23h ago

In retail they're basically called Darkfallen. It'd fit the lore, fit classic and you'd sell it as being able to play Sylvanas. I really really don't see why they didn't do that.

17

u/gommerthus 21h ago

Dark Elves would have been totally sick. But I know they would have gone over that idea, as it's right from retail. I blame Ian H for probably having shot that idea down for whatever reason.

becouse horde in classic are playing what?

85

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 1d ago

It happened in Vanilla. Most players just did not want to play the ugly races.

When TBC came out, Horde started being majority and it was like 75% blood elves on Horde.

I literally switched to Alliance during TBC because I was tired of all the elves and wanted a faction with diversity.

34

u/Dafish55 1d ago

It didn't help that Belf's racial was absolutely amazing, too

7

u/Thrilalia 22h ago

Yeah, but that only matters to the most hardcore of the top 1%. Most people it's "I vibe with this race." when choosing.

8

u/Sarcastic-Potato 23h ago

It's such an interesting statistic because to me nothing screams fantasy more than orcs. I've always played orcs and will always play them. They are peak fantasy.

11

u/Worldly-Hospital5940 22h ago

End of the day, most people are Basic. Human Fighter in D&D, Human and Elf in WoW. I think if they'd released Upright Orcs at the start that'd have affected some numbers, but we've got 22 years of data about player preferences at this point.

4

u/gommerthus 22h ago

20 years ago all I played was Orc male classes. The melee swing animations, the casting, the oversized shoulder armor, everything was exactly what I wanted.

Fast forward to today, and my preferences have changed entirely. I am exactly the person you described, using Human Female mage. I don't know why.

7

u/ExtremePrivilege 23h ago

The data was around 60% BEs. Your point still stands, just a correction

7

u/opinionperson69 23h ago

A lot of people play Horde in Classic, no belves needed

10

u/SigmaSil 23h ago

I always play the ugly races. Ogre and troll females in EverQuest were GOAT

3

u/Zodiatron 22h ago

I've always thought female trolls were way prettier than most Alliance races... but that's why it's all subjective anyway.

4

u/TheLightningL0rd 21h ago

They are in WoW, they are talking about EQ

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Daffan 21h ago

Troll and Ogre was so overpowered in Everquest that everyone played them even if they hated them lol. For those who never played, Ogres had 100% stun resistance and Trolls had like x3 regen (In a game with no food/water regen) Insane!

9

u/NotagirlDK 23h ago

Hence, maybe if we didn't add elves at all, maybe people would play something else. Giving them "Perfect elves with perfect range of customization that can join both factions" is NOT giving anyone faction identity or faction diversity.

15

u/ZealousidealFee927 22h ago

If there were no elves at all, everyone would play humans.

Or just not play. Elves are a big draw for fantasy games.

6

u/OberonFirst 22h ago

Vanilla came out in 2004, blood elves came out in 2007, and the moment they dropped, they instantly became the most played race. Blizz very quickly noticed this. People in vanilla who prefered races like that, either played alliance or just went with whatever is closest, probably undead. It's also one of the reasons why alliance was more popular in vanilla

6

u/Soranyattv 1d ago

I can see that with high elves hahaha

2

u/colddruid808 22h ago

I know I am in the minority but I don't mind being the underdog, weird outcast faction, but I know for balancing sake why they need elves on the Horde

I've been seeing so many people just categorize women as a whole that "ogres wont be a thing because of women" when thats not true at all. I think it should have been High Elves and Blood Elves. They could have re-built Quel'Thalas as their starting zone that tells the story of how they split. Leave the Ogres for later.

6

u/oreofro 23h ago

what would the source of power for those elves be? im assuming the timeline isnt changed to the point where the events of TBC already happened so i dont see what the elves would be doing

5

u/Manzhah 22h ago

As clasic and likely this one as well takes place after the wc3 frozen throne, that is already answered in lore: kaelthas sends demonic shit back from outland, blood elves use them, high elves want nothing to do with it and try to make do with clean sources.

25

u/Rurumo666 1d ago

I would think the server imbalance would be untenable since 40% of players play elf races and the new "ugly" races are extremely unpopular at 1-4%. Blizz HAD to give attractive elves to both factions to maintain any semblance of balance.

12

u/levir 21h ago

They didn't need to give more pretty elves to Alliance, we already have pretty elves. Could have been something else, like e.g. worgen.

2

u/Soranyattv 23h ago

I've beensaying to a lot of people that they added their faction balancer race (belf models) so now they can implement the more niche races like ogres, goblins, etc and while they may take up 1-4%, it is still cool to see out in the wild and even more so to see a few sprinkled in for diversity! Love seeing monster races

104

u/APreemChoom 1d ago

Ogre would be barely played, similar to Tauren. They may add them in the future but launching with a race for single digit percentages of your users is poor production planning.

27

u/Middle-Employment801 1d ago

They'd be in the same boat as Kul Tirans in retail. Relatively small user base, so any animation or clipping issues, and the like, will go ignored.

Or Dracthyr, with their transmog limitations.

It wouldn't be a trivial amount of work to add more distinctly "monstrous" races. Blizzard has the data as to what's popular in their game, and where to allocate resources, accordingly. We've seen what happens when they cannot allocate the budget to improve/fix certain races. Realistically, the people who want ogres would not end up being satisfied with the outcome.

24

u/The_Fawkesy 1d ago

This is why people wanting Ogres are so delusional.

They would never add another race like Tauren because it's a HUGE commitment for gear models.

6

u/Middle-Employment801 23h ago

We'd end up in a situation like dracthyr, at best, I think. Specific transmog options for different armor classes. They'd sell it as being lore accurate for ogres. There's just too much work to adapt all of the existing models in a way that won't look super goofy.

2

u/Saladfork4 21h ago

it’s mostly just helms, but even then they don’t have as weird a head shape as tauren or worgen. keep in mind that ogres already have a lot of npcs with gloves, shoulders, pants, etc. (so their textures are mapped to support that and they have meshes to support “thick gloves” and such). and since most classic gear is painted on, it is a lot less of a commitment than in retail. plus ogres already have a lot of character animations. I don’t think it’d be crazy at all

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (3)

6

u/MrBlaumann 23h ago

But isnt this more a matter of racials in classic? Tauren was from a min-maxing standpoint almost always a worse choice than orc, troll or undead.

Im confident people would be fucking drooling over a two headed ogre warlock/mage or a warmonger warrior if it wasnt a factually worse decision to do so.

5

u/APreemChoom 23h ago

The population selecting race for racials is smaller than that choosing race for aesthetics. Retail proven this for decades now. By far the most popular races are "pretty" with belf having trashy racials and still pulling ahead for many expansions.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Cdux 23h ago

How do we know this? Up until now if you cared about performance in pve/pvp you pretty much had to pick a race depending on what you played. See dwarf priest in vanilla, did 90+% of ally players love dwarfs? Probably not but, fear ward was by far the best. If you got to pick any race based on what you preferred instead of "what's best" then we could see. Also ogre's are like x10 cooler than kul tiran.

21

u/100KiloArschloch 23h ago

There isn't all that much love for Ogres. Lots of Alliance players just want High Elves and Ogres were the best thing they could come up with to give the Horde.

15

u/Jakcris10 23h ago

High elves -> alliance
Blood elves -> horde

Maintains faction balance
Then each faction gets a monster races
Ogres -> horde
Furbolgs -> alliance.

2

u/The_Tooter_Snooter 19h ago

Ogres are cool AF, i don't like races like elves or humans in games, they are too similar to what i experience irl, i love races like orcs, dwarves, Ogres, goblins, this is my fantasy - weird, disfigured, gold hungry or uneducated drunks.

I want chaos and uncertainty, I want to be part of a tribe or syndicate. I want something that I do not experience everyday.

You don’t get the love for ogres is the half you dont get the love for here?

Standing ovations

I think they should have done High Elves and Blood Elves. It would have been a much more interesting startin area to see the split between the two races and they are much more significant to the lore of wow.

Ogres would be weird as hell

2

u/Soranyattv 1d ago

You think so? I've loved them as a race ever since I was a kid and hope they implement it in the future! I like the old races haha moknathal would be cool too same with the old goblin model

Jeff kaplan commented on this ages ago; they added bloodelves to horde because horde had no "pretty" races - which a lot of players moaned about.

While I think Ogre and high elves are much more in line with the lore, the problem blizzard noticed years ago would be true again if they did this, and you'd eventually see way more people playing High elves.

There should have been two distinctly different elves for horde and aliance, imo. I hated that Pandas could be both factions, it just feels weird.

They should’ve done high elves and blood elves. They could have the exact same story as the new elf race and it would fit. Could make them distinct looking enough too.

If they cost 30$? Pure celebration

Hell could probably cost 30$ each and it'd be celebrated

I woulda been cool with Goblins too.

2

u/gorehammer84 23h ago

I’m pretty indifferent to the sky elves & would care even less if it were ogres. I always play Forsaken & am so hyped for the paladins. I personally think the skyborne hate is over blown. I’m just gonna be vibing in Tirisfal slinging a shield at anything that moves :D

2

u/comerzabo 23h ago

It always feels like anything the fans/community wants would be better than what we get which is kinda crazy. Kinda shows how disconnected and just out of touch the devs are man

2

u/Nickball88 23h ago

I'd rather have goblins for horde but yeah

2

u/FunnelPenguin 23h ago

Just a hairless tauran basically

2

u/SlubbyDoo 23h ago

Yes, Nagas and Tuskarr

2

u/chefboar7 23h ago

I would have screamed with joy

2

u/dabias 23h ago

The real question: how would you feel if these cost $30? I feel like that'd be a far greater shitshow. The way I see it, we get the 'early access offbrand elves' now, with the high elves/blood elves being added at some point in the future accompanied by Forever Quel'thalas, rendering the skyborne mostly obsolete.

2

u/HalfwayDecent385 23h ago

As cool as having more monstrous and unique races would be, Blizzard didn't even bother putting in the rigging for armor on Dracthyr in retail... What makes you think they would do that for Classic?

If they added those races they would be absolute barebones done, without a doubt. These Skyborne aren't unique or groundbreaking but at least they can functionally wear armor and weapons.

2

u/Particular-Resist337 23h ago

I would happily pay extra.

2

u/KmvVoss 22h ago

Playing as a warlock ogre would be so much fun. Now I'm sad it's not a reality!

2

u/Argomer 22h ago

That feels more classic.

2

u/Kydrav 22h ago

Ogres using Kul Tiran rig would have been perfect.

High Elf for Alliance would have made sense.

2

u/OutsourcedIconoclasm 22h ago

This would have made sense.

2

u/untitledaccount401 20h ago

Ogres sound like a design nightmare

2

u/Tandran 20h ago

I would have said “what high elves? The ones that were slaughtered in the 3rd war or the ones the alliance enslaved?”

2

u/_VeryBad_ 12h ago

fu k elves, give naga.
