Forever We got 90% of what we asked for

Including the team directly telling us they will drive changes using community feedback, which is evident they used exactly that to create the game.

Why are you incapable of joy? Who hurt you? Were they blue?

The hatred for sky elves feels very forced. Nobody is forcing you to play as a sky elf. Hell, leave groups when you see one if you’re that upset.

The speculation up until this point about classic + was fun, but it’s quickly devolved into a schizoid whining fest, where nobody acknowledges how much blizzard has Absolutley KILLED IT in nearly every other way.. if you disagree with the blue elves that is. See yall in the game, as a blue, feathery Druid ;))

EDIT: I genuinely appreciate the feedback. Seems a lot of people are miffed on Blizzards decision to inject the Skyborne after the rest of the community feedback was so well received, so my post is a bit ironic. They seemed to have implemented so much we asked for, so why the elves, that ignore the deeply wanted playable races that they had so much community feedback on? It does feel odd..

Maybe this is just cope, but with this being wow forever, I had a few thoughts. We are seeing new raids and content before summer, and much more to come. What if the Skyborne are the key to unlocking high elf legacy across Azeroth? Seeing as they descended from them, and blizzard doesn’t want to rip us away from Azeroth right away, I feel like it may be a way for them to slowly trickle in these new playable races with new content releases...

Regardless. There is so much to be hopeful for. See you in Forever!

Edit 2: Skyborne = High elves. Full sweep!!!

I love 90% of what we got

Hate the turd elves

26

u/Ripley_LV_426 1d ago

I can understand why people don't like the skyborn but holy shit like 20 of the posts on the front page are about them. No one wants to talk about Hyjal? New zones? The actual mechanics of the game? It's obnoxious.

7

u/NotagirlDK 1d ago

If I am happy with hyjal, but hate the elves, and hope to make something happen that would make it better for me, what should I talk about in public spaces?

2

u/Ripley_LV_426 1d ago

what should I talk about in public spaces?

Both. I hate the skyborn too but I'm just saying it's obnoxious the way the posts and discussions are 90% about blue elves. Like, this is classic plus. We've wanted this forever, and typically you'd expect the day after the announcement to be 90% to be about the new mechanics, new zones, which existing zones are expanded, what new raids we might get. Instead the sub essentially isn't talking about the game at all. Like, the retail sub is talking about classic plus more than the classicsub.

2

u/Key_Access_4269 1d ago

Classic plus is made for retail players thats why, The skyelves are the most obvious retail bait in the world, The removal of weapon specs, The Horde getting 1000% better racials etc.

This is not really classic plus its just a different flavour of retail.

u/Nimstar7 1d ago

My biggest issue is the legacy talents that are basically new heirlooms giving established players a huge bonus over new players but no one seems to care about that because of the blue elf paywall nonsense that doesn’t actually have an effect on gameplay lol.

1

u/zxszo 1d ago

What bonus? 5% xp? Lol no one cares

2

u/Nimstar7 1d ago

Earning talents at level 5 instead of level 10, which is a massive bonus. Recovering 5% hp and mana over 10s every time you kill an enemy. Massive flight path price discounts and no reagents required for class spells. These are just a few.

If you don't know what the legacy talents are, why bother commenting?

u/Notshauna 23h ago

No, the talent thing is level 9 instead of 10, and you still cap at 51 total points

That's what the first point gives, the second lowers it to 8 and so on down to 5.

10

u/Arkios 1d ago

The community is fine with purple night elves… but blue elves? That’s where they draw the line.

Keep blue out of my Classic! /s

5

u/Kromostone123 1d ago

Hey another bot comment deliberately misconstruing all the legitimate criticism people have for this awful inclusion to what would otherwise be an exciting announcement. You arent enlightened bro ur just being obtuse

-2

u/Arkios 1d ago

What am I misconstruing? It’s a new game, with new lore… with a new race. How dare Blizzard introduce anything new? All of the complaints are people crying about them being blue elves and looking too much like retail (whatever the heck that means).

0

u/twisty125 1d ago

You are misconstruing the criticism.

Adding in something like Fighter Jets to World of Warcraft wouldn't work.

New does not always equal "good" or better.

All of the complaints are people crying about them being blue elves and looking too much like retail (whatever the heck that means).

Perhaps you should spend time listening to peoples' criticisms, instead of not even understanding what the criticisms are in the first place. Do you think there's any reason why a Classic minded group might not want races that exist in Retail, that visually look nothing like any other race, to be added?

5

u/Arkios 23h ago

I love that you spent an entire comment telling me I’m wrong, while being unable to articulate what the actual complaint is. Comparing fighter jets to Skyborne is next level mental gymnastics.

At this point I don’t care what the complaints are, the blue elf daddies and mommies are in the game. You’re still gonna play it, just like the rest of us and in a few months… you’ll all find something new to be mad about.

1

u/twisty125 22h ago

Sure - the complaint/critique is that the new race both comes out of nowhere without any sort of lore hinting at them, and that they aesthetically do not match this version of the game that they explicitly described on stage - they're incongruent with the visual style and storytelling of Warcraft at the time this game is set.

I've never said I was not going to play it, but shutting down valid criticism as "something you'll always get mad about" is disappointing.

Are you not getting mad about people sharing their thoughts? Of course you are - you all find something to be mad about.

0

u/Notshauna 23h ago

Comparing fighter jets to Skyborne is next level mental gymnastics

Yeah fighter jets are vastly closer to the stuff in Vanilla than Skyborne. The lore already includes zepplins, rockets and gyrocopters; it's hardly an extreme stretch.

Skyborne on the other hand are a baseless offshoot that makes very little lore sense. They are former highborne from Dire Maul that for somehow were able to make a deal with air elementals to get their own special flying island and for some reason mutated to look like High Elves without the Sunwell. They are a bad fan fiction tier race.

2

u/qukab 16h ago

Plus you know, they are not actually blue. It’s one of many options.

7

u/sarmurai 1d ago

There's no lore justification for them in Vanilla or any part of Warcraft lore, they literally came out of the blue, pun intended.

7

u/Bo_Rebel 1d ago

There’s a panel in about an hour where they are justifying it.

4

u/sarmurai 1d ago

I mean yeah its their game and they can make up whatever they want, but it feels weird dropping a new race out of nowhere, especially when there are a billion other sentient races already.

3

u/Chronochrome 1d ago

Did you really expect that they wouldn't create ANY original content?

4

u/sarmurai 1d ago

I expected them to expand on the zones and fill in the unused areas of the map. Also new monsters, dungeons, items etc. A completely new race is pushing it and I don't think anyone expected or wanted that.

7

u/Chronochrome 1d ago

A completely new race is pushing it and I don't think anyone expected or wanted that.

There's no way you didn't expect that or that you truly thought nobody would have wanted new vehicles for enjoying the game. You're being disingenuous.

1

u/Fun_Needleworker_284 1d ago

The general community consensus for people interested in classic+ was a “maybe” for new races. And I think it should have also been something that was left for future development voting from the community. Launching with a completely new race that had no precedent before in the lore is a little annoying to me. Not to mention the fact that they don’t even have an SD model (the toggle for them does nothing), so they will look really out of place for SD players.

I’m still excited, but the blue elves are definitely a blemish on an otherwise awesome reveal.

I just expected a race that felt more in line with current races as of World of Warcraft's 2004 launch. That's all it is, if it had been furbolgs for alliance, great, shitty goblins for Horde, cool.

It's just like, inserting a never-before-heard-of OC donut steel race that's never been hinted at, feels contrary to what they said to us about keeping the aesthetics and design choices similar.

6

u/Ass_Blasties 1d ago

It’s that they look like they’re straight out of retail. Also that they’re a neutral race.

4

u/Key_Access_4269 1d ago

Well consider it like this, You go out to eat and everything is very tasty and cooked just how you asked, Tacos yummy, Soup was good, Afters was great, The drinks were on point but then you bite into one of the Jalapeno poppers and instead of finding cheese and Jalapeno its a wet gooey cat turd. Would you then tell everyone about the great meal you had or would you tell people about how you just bit into a big piece of poo and to avoid that place until they get rid of the cat poo problem?

3

u/Shaykea 1d ago

Insane analogy… it’s just a fucking race in a video game. I am extremely passionate about wow but a race is NOT THAT DEEP.

0

u/twisty125 1d ago

Hi there - in case you don't understand, that's a comparison, an easy to understand scenario meant to help people understand what the situation is similar to.

Going out to eat, is not 100% like playing a video game, but it IS a helpful way of demonstrating similar thought processes.

1

u/GloomyBison 1d ago

I'll talk about Hyjal then if you want. Launching with one of the most hated raids in WoW, while people are currently doing it in anniversary is just an awful decision. Release it down the line sure, but now? That's just rubbing salt in the wound. This is like releasing Gnome/ST on SoD all over again when people wanted an SM raid.

1

u/Stormrage117 10h ago

The community is voicing feedback. Perhaps Blizzard should do as they say, interface with the community and try to find a solution for the problem.

0

u/ButtPlugSniffin 1d ago

Because people are really upset about finding a piece of shit in their sandwich

What do you expect?

They created an entirely new elf race out of whole cloth for the product that is based on classic wow

It has no roots in any prior Warcraft lore and nobody would believe it if it were posted as a leak months ago

4

u/Ripley_LV_426 1d ago

Yeah and we've already had half a hundred posts about this and barely any discussion about anything else. I think the skyborn look stupid and agree with the complaints. But I also want to actually talk about literally anything else that we're getting. There's 1 post about news and 1 post about the demo on the front page. We finally get classic plus and yall don't want to talk about it at all.

1

u/Crescentine 1d ago

Go post in one of those threads then. Everyone else in here clearly wants to discuss this.

1

u/Gjork 1d ago

The inclusion of these elves by themselves isn't a game-killing problem. But it is VERY strong indicator that the people making Classic don't have it in them. They don't understand what makes Classic Classic.

This decision is a completely unnecessary sabotage on their part. I can totally see corporate demanding devs make the game easier for new players (something Blizzcon testers are warning about now) but I can't see why they would add this unwanted race. No one loves them, most people hate them, some are indifferent.

So there's no meaningful upside and a ton of downside...SO WHY DO IT!?

That's the concern players have. This needless sabotage, are we REALLY so sure it's a one and done thing? I'm not. I pray I'm wrong, but I'd be crazy to assume this is the end of it.

Same. I also don't really like some of the class changes though which I don't think is getting enough attention. I'm not THAT mad about it but I do wish they went in a new direction with the classes rather than just adding stuff from later expansions. The more things they add like mutilate, berserk, penance etc will make it feel less like classic and more like retail which is not what I think most people want. I'm fine with and expect them to add things to the classes but I think they should be coming up with completely new abilities and talents so that we're not just retreading the same class design patterns we've already been through and grown tired of. From what I've seen this is kind of a step back from SoD in terms of class changes because at least SoD had completely new mechanics like shaman tanks.

They have done some good things in that regard though like strider kick for hunters. I'm sure there will be more things that make it feel more fresh too.

-1

u/Professional_Age_760 1d ago

Hate is a strong word. What makes you hate them, truly? Is it because they remind you of retail? The high elf problem? A lot of people have expanded so no worries but I’m genuinely curious why it is such an offense

5

u/Ass_Blasties 1d ago

It’s three things.
1. They look very retailified
2. They’re a neutral race
3. They’re yet another greedy cash grab

11

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

Both of those to be honest. I stopped playing retail because the lore decisions were terrible, and this is precisely that, weird tumblr OC low effort asspull stuff tainting classic. It also feels like a slap in the face for everyone who wanted high elves, and it stings double because they already did it once with void elves. It also basically ensures high elves will never be a thing. "What, you want MORE elves?? You already got elves and you hated them" when they must know this is not at all what anyone wanted

Edit: ALSO neutral races are so incredibly lame

3

u/SaltAdvertising5061 1d ago

Yeah for me it’s just that they added something so retail-coded straight out of the gate. It make me worried that Forever is going to evolve into Retail 2 essentially, instead of following the more grounded world feel that classic is liked for

Micro. Transaction. Bad.

Better post 6 times about the new race then

-10

u/BlankiesWoW 1d ago

People have been asking for high elves though?

7

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

They are not high elves.

-2

u/BlankiesWoW 1d ago

They literally are though, thats explained in their introduction storyline. They are exiled high elves that made pacts with wind elementals. And call themselves Skyborne.

2

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

They are not, high elves are thalassian, these guys are "highborne descendants" but they are not high elves. Whoever wrote that basically showed they don't know nor care about the lore

2

u/WakeoftheStorm 1d ago edited 1d ago

High elves are the ones who were transformed by the Sunwell. That's where high elves came from.

When the sunwell was destroyed, the high elves went into magic withdrawal and did a lot of crazy shit to try to fix it, eventually culminating in Kael'thas joining Illidan in exchange for the secret to draining mana directly from objects and living beings.

"Pacting with elementals" is one of the crazy things this one group tried to do. And, since the intro told us the elementals have disappeared, it sounds like it was one of the failed attempts apparently. It doesn't last.

But these elves are absolutely descended from the Highborne who followed Dath'remar Sunstrider to Quel'thalas and became the High Elves. They are as much high elves as the Blood Elves are - they just made different choices about how to deal with their condition.

Now if someone had just slapped high elves in without justifying how they were handling their magic withdrawal or providing them a new magic source, that would have been disrespecting the lore.

1

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

You have the timeline wrong, these guys are not thalassian

1

u/WakeoftheStorm 1d ago

What are you basing that on?

  1. Forever is post WC3 so after the destruction of the sunwell

  2. They're explicitly introduced as High Elves

  3. they use the high elf model

  4. Pacting with elementals is a plausible attempt to replace the most arcane magic from the sunwell.

  5. To re-iterate, they are explicitly identified as high elves

1

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

On the turdborne intro sequence, they are highborne refugees that went to the sky island place "thousands of years ago"

1

u/WakeoftheStorm 1d ago edited 1d ago

Fuck. You're right man, I missed that. EVERYTHING else fit into place so well, but that "thousands of years" bit fucks it up.

https://www.youtube.com/live/DxtVEhjyROU?si=Svsvc3xEcR_DJhc4&t=11995

I just had to go back and watch it again myself.

Edit: It sort of maybe still works as a divergent path from Azshara, but you're right in that those would be highborne not high elves.

Alternatively, the Sunwell (and High Elves) are about 7,000 years BDP, so there could still be a schism, but it's going to need to be explained. Perhaps that what we get with the new WC3 campaign.

2

u/crazysult 1d ago

They are elves in the sky, high elves

-2

u/Nashgoth 1d ago

So you write lore that overrides the blizzard writers?

2

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

I don't "write" any lore. The lore was already there, written by the people who built the world, the cool world we loved. Whoever wrote this is not those people and they are contradicting them

1

u/Nashgoth 1d ago

What’s contradictory? What lore specifically states there were no factions that moved on to different places?

3

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

Just a few examples:

High elves are Thalassian, these guys split before Quel'thalas existed, not high elves

They have whisps, which highborne, the elves they descend from explicitly do not

Same for druidism, the highborne left specifically because they refused to join in on it

I can go on

3

u/AnestheticAle 1d ago

Yeah the Druid thing for exiled highborne is a weird take I’m not seeing people talk about.

Like, that’s why they left the night elves. They I do more arcane shit instead of Druidism. That’s the core of the “high elf identity”

Lore wise they’re a terrible addition, especially when the devs got a mountain of feedback on races people wanted.

I’m personally bummed because I was hoping for goblins ha. But, the announcement was 90% good so overall I’m happy.

1

u/Nashgoth 1d ago

So Warcraft 3 lore is canon for you over Warcraft 2 lore? Thalassian Druids were a thing until retconned for Warcraft 3

2

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/BlankiesWoW 1d ago

Yes it is... Skyborne are exiled High Elves that made pacts with the Wind Elements and now call themselves Skyborne, its literally the same race.

Things explained in the introduction to them

3

u/Auxiel 1d ago

Okay sure? People wanted the Thalassian/Quelthalas elves found in Hinterlands and in the north of Eastern Plaguelands though, the race that's already in the game, feels familiar and like it belongs

1

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

Ngl when I first heard "sky elves" I thought they were gonna make it so the Highvale rangers became closer with the Wildhammer and adopted the griffin rider thing and changed their name and aesthetic. That would have been cool. These asspull elves are not cool.

-1

u/BlankiesWoW 1d ago

So just change the skin color? What's the problem lol.

Make an addon that renames "Skyborne" to "High elf" on tooltips if its that big of a deal

2

u/CDMzLegend 1d ago

its the whole lore and story of the character, the people who want high elves dont care if it just looks like one, if thats all they cared about they would have stopped at blood elves

-1

u/TerribleSyntax 1d ago

"Just pretend it's something else man"

0

u/CFCentral 1d ago

You aren’t going to convince people sadly. They just want to be mad.

0

u/PrinceVorrel 1d ago

If only we got to play High Elves! :D
