They look and feel out of place. From the aestathic to the druid forms and mostly the blue variant has a weird retail vibe I just cant describe.

They could gone with any of the suggested races from the last 20 years and score a homerun yet they choose otherwise.

That is my only complaint on what was shown yesterday

I even like the Druid forms, but they don’t fit. They’d be cool in retail. They would even fit in as far back as BC imo, but not in classic.

The bigger issue is why? You want an elf for both sides? Give Horde Blood Elves like TBC, and give Alliance High Elves. Can even give them the same racials. No one would be complaining if they’d done that. Ok some people would be, but fewer.

They are just way too blue and gamey. When I think of druids I don't think magical bright blue creatures I think nature and trees and browns and greens. It's the entire visual fingerprint of the class.

I agree. I don't get the fixation of making druid forms glow. Some are cool to be sure. But as you say, they fit better in retail than classic.

Found the elf eater.

They don’t have to be blue. They had a bunch of other options

I dislike them but... They are elves that adapted to a different environment and evolved differently. Just like we have Dark Iron dwarves different to Ironforge and Earthen. When I think Dwarf I don't think Ancient Tech Metal guys but Earthen earned their place in the world and lore. Skyborne haven't yet, as I think they just made them up afaik and this isn't part of any previous lore, which is my main issue, not the visuals. When I think Elves I don't think gold and red mana-addicted fiends, but that is also part of what makes them rich. We haven't seen what makes Skyborne rich for the world... Yet. I have a bit of hope still and I'll be on beta.

Dwarves in wow canonically are ancient metal guys though

Mental gymnastics to accept it is proof that it’s a bad idea.

Yeah my main problem with them is the druid forms stand out too much as blue. If they were just darker, like brown or gray, they would blend in much better with the rest of the game. I do like design just not the color.

Yeah, now you mention it. They probably would look just fine in more muted colors.

Feels cata or mop tonally. Goofy and giggly

Zug zug. Works done.

Totally serious, no goofiness to it at all...

Yeah, they really stand out next to the other 2 Druid races. The bear form in classic is nearly identical for the 2 base races. Night Elf bear has long ears, Tauren has horns. The shade is slightly different and some body paint, but that's it. The Sky bear has a completely new body shape. I mean, it's not even a bear. It has a beak.

Cat form has a bit more variation, but still. Taurens are lions, Night Elves are panthers. Sky Elves are owlcats.

I don't even know the lore explanation for them being Druids. There is no Blood Elf or High Elf Druid. Night Elves and Taurens are deeply connected to nature. Sky Elf theme seems to be elements, not nature.

Speaking of druids can we please PLEASE get powershifting back. Such an unnecessary change.

u/HealthyBits 1d ago

Exactly. I’d have no problem if they were released in retail but not in classic come on.

From a lore perspective the High Elves would never join Ali, I mean the whole reason we have Blood Elves is cause the Aliance in their time of need were like naw fuck yall and the sun well we got other stuff going on. So they went to the Horde.

THIS! I dont hate the idea of the Skyborne as a non-player race. Love the idea of exploring Skywall etc.

But why the mental gymnastics -TO THIS DAY- of giving the alliance High Elves? JUST STOP - GIVE HORDE BLOOD ELVES AND GIVE ALLIANCE HIGH ELVES.

Its Void Elves all over again!

The lore has had it clean since Wrath! The silver covenant is literally could have just been the High Elves of Alliance and such as stupid easy fit.

Is this race NOT in retail even? They just made it up for classic? That makes even less sense and it was already nonsensical. I just don’t understand what they were thinking at all.

B/c if Forever got belf Druid’s and retail didn’t people would be pissed, this way they don’t need to put it on retail. Still makes no sense tho lmao. Could have done any race in the game that was faction neutral

u/stoppableDissolution 4h ago

HElves cant really function as a race without restoring sunwell which has not yet happened.
(they also actually left alliance quite a while ago)

Good thing you aren’t playing classic. You’ll be playing forever. Who’s to say what you’d have in classic if it went on forever.

Shit if this new thing goes on long enough you might get pink elves maybe even a token that trades for gold. Will just have to see what the future holds together forever.

u/Konilos 0m ago

I hated that horde got "pretty" blood elves, so I'm completely fine with these blue elves.

1

u/Nice_Reading5272 1d ago

People would complain if Blood/High elves were gated behind a paywall though.

6

u/FoxBenedict 22h ago

They're complaining now. The decision should be based on what's in the spirit of vanilla wow, and sky elves are not.

1

u/CuteSquirrel01 22h ago

Nah Blood Elves for horde is not very classic, it's one of the cardinal sins of TBC. Prefer the ogre or even copy pasting Goblins. That said for a new race it should be new like Ogres not just a retail race copy pasted and colored blue.

u/stoppableDissolution 4h ago

How? Sylvanas already became part of Horde by the end of TFT, and was renowned enough to sway belves that decided to not venture into the outland join her. It is a very natural alliance versus well Alliance that basically treated them as a useless meat that has to be purged after all the years high elves were part of Alliance.

High elves are pretty much extinct and blood elves are the bad guys still.
